Colt. You’re too young to have been my teacher plus no UA-cam back then. But man I would have loved to have you teaching me. Would have saved doing things many times to learn the right way. But that said I love watching your abilities being shared now.
I love to watch you work and how good you explain what it is you are doing and why. There is a lot of content creators that do not do that. I fill that what makes your builds so much fun to come together keep up the good work.
For anyone that wants to know: DOM steel tubing is made exactly the same way as HREW except it's final manufacturing step is being cold-drawn thru a mandrel. This makes the weld joint much stronger and nearly invisible. It also makes the wall thickness more consistent. HREW is usually made from 1010 flat stock while DOM is usually made from 1020 flat stock. DOM is significantly stronger than HREW and is required by most sanctioning bodies in all forms of racing. In the old days cages could be built from .095 DOM or .120 HREW in series like NASCAR. DOM cages were stronger and lighter, but HREW were deemed "good enough". Not anymore.
Colt, that is neat setup, and finding that table with the small compartments underneath just makes it all the better. I took shop in high school a few days ago, let's see, oh, that was from 1958-1959.. Great shop teacher, but his lacked your skills..... keep up making these awesome, informative videos.👌
Hey , Colt and Shanna (sorry if I misspelled your lovely lady) anyway, I don't know if you know much of "Muddy Beards" but they have a S10. Now me and husband would like to see your S10 go head to head with theirs. Not drag racing but crawling and off road. Just to see the differences. We respect you both and Colt we watched you build yours and everything that went with it. We both think that both of you are bright and shiny souls. Wife is a native to Colorado.
You deserve a nice flat, completely empty welding table. Yeah, no vice or other crap in the way. Other tools go on something else. Since I'm old my table is a Titan 1500 hydraulic motorcycle/UTV table with a 1/2" steel plate on top. No matter the project, I can easily get it on the table, and then adjust the perfect height for working on that project. I goes from 7" from the floor to 42" from the floor, hydraulically. The 1500lb weight rating means I can take any project. I still use it for my motorcycle, mechanic work, etc. It is one of the best investments I have ever made for my shop.
That hex drive is similar to some pneumatic units that I used to see for snugging foundation bolts on some of the pressure vessels and columns I designed over the years. Of course, nowadays they use more compact hydraulic units. Still pretty cool to see that kind of drive trickling down to harbor freight for shop use. Have fun with that!
Hello from Albuquerque. I am a relatively new watcher of your channel. I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I really enjoy watching your show because you go into the details you explain things for people who may not actually know like myself keep up the good work. I really enjoy watching your series
as a previous Disco owner I was kind of sad at the begining to be honest. Looking at the amazing work you're doing and how you're actually keeping the original shape, I'm very impressed!
Question on the dash v bar. If you took a bad hit coming down on the cage will that v bar just want to fold down since it’s at an angle like that? Just curious enjoying the whole build!
Hey Colt Great job of explaining how you do things. I could watch your videos all day. One question I have is what tube cutter cutters do you use, where do you get them and how long do they last. The ones I've used just don't last. thank bro
I got my tube notcher from affordable bender. You'll have to call them for it though. But I do have a discount code "COLT5" for 5% off anything in their store
@ makes sense, I won’t make it there but will be watching your channel. If you ever make it to Yuma, AZ, would love to meet you both and show you my 85 FJ60. Thanks.
Please just tell me that this cage isn't for a one time event. Hopefully this will get built into something deserving of all the effort after the games.
Really only a couple things better then dom and those are generally in half million dollar race cars. Dom is fine for rock crawling your not going 200mph + chromoly is just way way over kill.
Nice job Colt now you can yourself prefab shop🇺🇸👍🏻
Great work Colt. Fantastic information for building a cage ❤❤. Keep it up man and stay warm
Shawna is bringin it, nice
Nobody explains stuff better than Colt!
Nate Dirt Lifestyle 😉
Casey LaDelle Cascade Heavy Rescue
I'm loving this build.
Man Colt is planning to do a barrel roll like star fox. Don't forget a marble in the overhead horizontal tube for good luck. 😂
You are a great fabricator. And teacher
Appreciate it, thanks for watching!
I agree. So Colt explains things in simple terms.

Couldn't have said that any better.
Bleeping jeep channels are the best. Not, matt, but all his friends lol
Agree. It amazes me that his channel is not growing faster. 😊😊😊
It's great how you can transfer skills in how to videos. Colt Builds It, should be a #1 hit on the U Tubes!!!
Appreciate the kind words!
@coltbuildsit Earned and deserved.
agree
it is a pleasure listening and watching Colt at work. so much info he shares...

For all the women out their, a way to a mans heart is tools and toys for ever
I really appreciate the way you explain things and show how you're doing them.
Word of the day: “rigidified”
I love to watch you work and how good you explain what it is you are doing and why.
There is a lot of content creators that do not do that. I fill that what makes your builds so much fun to come together keep up the good work.
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying the process!
Keeping it Land Rover looking = interesting to watch. Thanks.👍
Love the fabrication work and explanations. It's going to be one of the coolest builds there. I know I'd feel safe in your land rover. Great work.
Sometimes I think you have way too much fun building
You are a great teacher and salesman. I usually fast forward through the pitch but you make it interesting and educational. RIGIDIFY NATION!
"They're supposed to be jalopies"... Proceeds to build a beautiful, absolute unit of a cage. Love it!
I love how well you explain everything and I like your new weld table looks like a good addition to your shop
That table was an amazing find. That rig looks amazing.😊😊😊😊
Glad you like the table!
Great job on the table. 👍🏻
Thank you Colt for sharing this with me ! I really appreciate you explaining why and how you doing stuff during your builds !
Nice job Colt, that is one kick ass cage man. Can't wait to see what else you do with it. Thanks for the video bro 👍
I enjoy the educational part as well as watching the build

Colt always brings the schooling, nice!
This is the way
Looking good Colt. The upper part of this build looks close to being fully done.
Hey that's a t-shirt. Tools and Toys Forever
You'd make great shop teacher
Colt,

The base of that table should be Bright Green…🤣
This thing is turning out awesome!
That is looking GREAT Colt.
I am sorry for fast forwarding through some of your explanations but as a home faber myself or I used to be, I know why.
Good morning Colt!
Thank you 🙏 for another tubing lesson!
🙏❤️😎🤙
Sweet additions to the rear of vehicle.
Love that you're keeping the spirit of the Rover together. Just a thought, the red coats did use SAE hardware on that truck.

Jalu is an awesome store. My first stop for bolts. Just wish they were open on Saturdays.
Me: ha...he'll never find those M16 bolts! Wait a minute...he has a real hardware store?!?! Man, I need one of those close to me!
That Landy is looking like it is getting some life put into it! Not a Jeep thing lol 😅 Its a Tea Party 🎉

That floppy as a taco notcher would make me crazy. Some sort of gusset is needed.
Another great instructional. Lots of good advice and a great wheel carrier along the way. Thanks Colt.
Thanks, Colt.
If i would drink a shot every time you said "notch" I'd be dead. .. ..
...but it's notch your business.. 😂😂
👍🏽🇺🇸👍🏽 great video Colt
Awesome video and tutorial! Love your video's. Thank you for sharing
colt another awesome show and tell video. keep them coming and please lets hear more of the shanon jokes!😃❤❤
Center of windshield area bar is "the Earnhardt bar".
Need a 007 theme. Being a rover you already have the oil slick and smoke screen (electrical 🔥) just need some little missiles in the grill.
👌Great stuff. Thank You!🙂

Rad Content As Allways...
ladder is For Looks???
Naw..that's the ladder to the #1 spot..lol 😂
Everything has a place, find one or make one for it. And put it back when your done 😂 is it the OCD, or is it the shared parenting value? Love it 🙌
Fantastic video Colt. Thanks
as a previous Disco owner I was kind of sad at the begining to be honest. Looking at the amazing work you're doing and how you're actually keeping the original shape, I'm very impressed!
From 7000 lbs to 6000 now back to 7000.😊 Looks Great 😂
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I appreciate you
Outstanding AF Professor
Love you guys! God Bless
pure talent
GREAT VIDEO .....
Colt, don't be that guy! There's no "th" sound on the end of HEIGHT
We love you guys!
put a tri plate on top of the tire tube to spread the twist load
Nice build. You could have reused the original spare tire mount for this LR.
That must be tough with no music and cold great set up and nice custom cage P.S. do you have a Hi. ? LMK
If you get done with the competition I would make it better cuz this would be a cool rig to have around. Just have a beater racer
19:50 Nobody likes a "bend out and bend over"
😄
😎

Have to have a ladder in case you need a overlander.
Make the jack handle stay in the jack, semi-permanently. No holder needed.
The two top holes on the hubcap are just crying out for some googley eyes.
Going to be fun lol

Hi Colt, I like the build and the info. Will you use this vehicle after the games or is it scrap afterwards? So much work. Thanks
Guess that depends on how it ends up after the games, lol
@ makes sense, I won’t make it there but will be watching your channel. If you ever make it to Yuma, AZ, would love to meet you both and show you my 85 FJ60. Thanks.
You should start a fab school.
Just curious what's in store for Tea Party after Matt's off road games?
Could you add gussets in the corners also of the windshield
I added a lot more gussets after the video, including the windshield 😉
@coltbuildsit can't wait to see it!
cool hammer has fingers on it for smaller jobs
Aren't you going to put a taller Tire on that thing just wondering you put that spare tire on the back and that's pretty small Tire
Instead of one centered tube, top front to back. I would have but two
🚙 ❤
Please just tell me that this cage isn't for a one time event. Hopefully this will get built into something deserving of all the effort after the games.
When you stand next to the Landy I can tell actually how incredibly tall you are
I'm 5'11" and I gotta look up when talking to him whenever I see him around Farmington. And shake his baseball mitt hands. Lol
Radii* is the plural for radius

Still best season . Winter sucks
