@@Jtwes I made pvc cups for the end of the fingers that would set them upright. Geard the planter for my desired spacing. It ran to fast for hand loading behind a jd 40 at idle. May revisit it now that you have peeked my interest in how the water valve is tripped. Maybe rig an automatic loader for the fingers trips like the water. Or a tube straight down into the sword that is tripped and places the clove. Anyhow ,your vidio has me drawing up several designs of boltons for this type planter and planting using the water trip.

You read my mind Joe. As I was watching the boys drop garlic bulbs, I wondered about planting potatoes that way. I think that's the first pull behind Holland I've seen for one row. Mine was a pick up planter and the water barrel mounted on the right side of the tractor. Either way, Holland planters were second to none. My Great Uncle Claude had a Powell and when he saw us planting with our Holland, he went to Leinbachs and traded for a Holland.

Holland makes a bulb attachment just for that job…they can be used to plant potatoes as well. It looks like a cup that bolts to the chain where the transplanter pocket goes!

I want to think I have saw a add on gear reduction on a Farmall on a video once. But you could buy a whole lot of garlic for that price I guess. Interesting, that's the first pull type I've seen like that. The pull ones I've seen almost have you laying down. Your butt is literally inches off the ground. I inherited a 3 point mechanical transplanter from my Dad. We used a Ferguson 35 to pull it setting tobacco so we went slower. Still use both of them to plant tomatoes and sweet potatoes. Now that I'm watching, those fingers don't grip that tight. I almost think you could put the bulb in the fingers instead of dropping tthem. Potatoes probably wouldn't work that way though.

They're pretty plentiful here in sw Ontario and go for 200.00 cdn (150.00 US) in working condition with really nice mint ones that are around 500.00 cdn.
