I have over the years made rubber mask, I've made props for stage, I've done make up and FX.. love your vids as always, I walk away yet, learning more. Now that being said.. I have Never seen anyone put a tennis ball on top of their pvc. Good Sir, you can call me educated! :D
That lazy susan piece is genius! I need to make me one like that! The prop looks amazing!
Another awesome piece!
I used to do faux finishes for interior walls and for projects where we wanted greater working time we’d use oil paints mixed with thinner over latex base coats.
That's a great idea!
Great tips I never thought about dusting/ buffing the piece before applying the clear coat. Genius! For clear coats, I usually follow the manufacturer instructions and add 6 hours when possible because clear coat has a tendency of misbehaving, like you did by coming back to it the next day lol
Yeah, clear coats can be very touchy, especially during colder months.
Excellent! Yeah, for a mandalorian helmet, I didn’t check my metallic paint was compatible with the clear coat… it ended up all white and dull… lesson learned!
That sucks. Sorry to hear that happened.
@@VanOaksProps haha, thanks, don’t worry: nothing a good sanding and repainting can’t fix 😋 have a good one!
This looks great! I can see using this in our haunt this year - witch's wand, interesting jars/bottles on the table, etc etc
From thought to perfection takes time. Sometimes years. 😎🤙
Absolutely!
BEAUTIFUL
Thank you!
Came out great Derek! Looks Legit!
Just found your channel. I gotta say your projects look great. The information is well explained. Thank you for sharing the knowledge!
Welcome and thanks for watching!
Fantastic amazing piece, thank you so much for sharing 🤩
Thanks for the tutorial! Is the enamel paint like the one used on the cars or just regular glossy black?
Just your standard hardware store kind.
@@VanOaksProps Thank you!
Great turorial! thank you as always!
Thanks for watching!
Looks great as always, man. 3 years? That's it? Lol.
Haha
Looks good!!! Thanks for the info.
Any time!
Awesome
Thanks!
Welcome!
Nice work on the thermal detonator and some great tips on chrome painting! Great job!
Thank you very much!
I missed this weeks livestream. Very cool video.
Next time!
Great metallic finish, it came out excellent. What airbrush and compressor do you have? The paint was flowwing nicely.
Iwata Eclipse airbrush and California air tools compressor. They’re both extremely nice.
Nice helmet stand - I may need to copy that style.
Shiny!
OK question. I noticed you used gloss Black paint...Why Gloss? Why couldn't it be flat or satin? Does the gloss really give any "extra" effects"
The gloss helps to build up the reflectivity of the chrome paint. My gloss paint ended up being less glossy than expected which is why the finish wasn’t a true chrome. So it really does make a difference.
I think that protocol droid, the black one that's standing in a hole behind you, has a question.
Always! He never shuts up.
You should consider turning this prop into the head of a one eyed monster robot, it would be so cool!
👍
Super helpful video. May I ask what you used for the red LED cover?
I had found some red led covers that fit, although I don’t think it’s movie accurate.
Do you by any chance recall the source?
@@adrianqpersonal it was from all electronics. They were a local electronics store that has since closed, but I believe they have an online store now.
You use acrylics in a lot of your vids but oils in this one. Pretty interchangeable?
They each have their place. Acrylics dry much faster than oil paints and it was dry/windy, so I went with oils.
Nice hat.
Thanks!
Hah! You accidentally painted a negative of K-2SO on your work bench.
🤣🤣🤣
