    I have over the years made rubber mask, I've made props for stage, I've done make up and FX.. love your vids as always, I walk away yet, learning more. Now that being said.. I have Never seen anyone put a tennis ball on top of their pvc. Good Sir, you can call me educated! :D

    That lazy susan piece is genius! I need to make me one like that! The prop looks amazing!

    Another awesome piece!
    I used to do faux finishes for interior walls and for projects where we wanted greater working time we’d use oil paints mixed with thinner over latex base coats.

    Great tips I never thought about dusting/ buffing the piece before applying the clear coat. Genius! For clear coats, I usually follow the manufacturer instructions and add 6 hours when possible because clear coat has a tendency of misbehaving, like you did by coming back to it the next day lol

      Yeah, clear coats can be very touchy, especially during colder months.

    Excellent! Yeah, for a mandalorian helmet, I didn’t check my metallic paint was compatible with the clear coat… it ended up all white and dull… lesson learned!

    I am currently working on a Dr. Doom mask. I haven't had luck in the past with "metal" finishing. So I will give this method a go. Thanks for the advice.

      @@VanOaksProps I applied the "aluminum" today. I am very happy and pleased with the results. Haven't decided if I will add weathering or not. But your tutorial was very helpful.

    OK question. I noticed you used gloss Black paint...Why Gloss? Why couldn't it be flat or satin? Does the gloss really give any "extra" effects"

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  11 місяців тому

      The gloss helps to build up the reflectivity of the chrome paint. My gloss paint ended up being less glossy than expected which is why the finish wasn’t a true chrome. So it really does make a difference.

    You use acrylics in a lot of your vids but oils in this one. Pretty interchangeable?

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  Рік тому +1

      They each have their place. Acrylics dry much faster than oil paints and it was dry/windy, so I went with oils.
