Let us ALL remember.. keep our words positive and encouraging. We need more young organists coming up through (pardon the pun) the ranks. Sadly, on more than one occasion, I have heard unkind words come from more experienced organists. This incredible young man man has a gift, that needs to be nurtured. 🎶
Yes, I have met a very few that have were quite arrogant and looked down on 'old ladies who play organs at church'. There's a place for those with elevated degrees and there is also a place for someone who just loves what they do for the glory of God every Sunday morning.
You make that well, boy! Go on this, unconditionally! My sister is an organist too and she also teaches organ at the southly Brandenburg region in Germany. She would be very glad and proud if she has such a gifted student like you are. She had one at your age, but he moved away and has got organ lessons with another teacher now.
I love this video. What a great way to document a memorable experience for a young budding musician! And blessings on the staff and professors of Concordia Seminary who made this possible. It reminds me of Jesus blessing the children. I pray that "M" will have the appropriate guidance to become all that he can be, in music or whatever he dedicates his life to!
Such a stately transition in stature, Lad ! Your chordal texture has progressed, pleasingly ! -- Most could not even pronounce your composer's name ! Your learning never ends - The pipe organist is, probably, the only musician that does not own his instrument - You gain more knowledge each time you seat yourself on a bench and your feet touch the petals ! And ..... Never Hide Your Talent, Lad --- Share It
What a blessing this young man is!!! Keep at it and you will go far! Organists , sadly, are a dying breed and we must get more young people interested in the greatest musical instrument there is. I started playing in church at age 14; I am now 66 and still 'on the bench'. Nice work, young man!
`Wonderful. This is a talent that to be grown like a fine rose so it blooms for all to see and cherish. His smile at the end is just heart warming and magical.
And I just watched it again and noticed that he sight reads, but he can also play by ear, and from memory. This is a sign of hidden talent. If he keeps up his studies, this kid will go far. Bravo!
Bravo! I'm an LCMS church musician, and I played this piece 60 years ago at the age of 15 and plan to revisit it next year on our recital series in Colorado Springs. I met Dr. Sam at the Seward conference in July; best wishes for your tenure in St. Louis! Also the videography is stunning: thanks to all who put this together!
I have also met wonderful playing organists who possess a PHD in organ music and theory, but don’t possess the special ability/skill to lead congregational singing !! This is as much of an art as it is talent because the singing tempo varies greatly from week to week and no amount of forced speed, by the organist, will change the congregation’s singing speed that particular day !
There was an 11 year old boy in Gyomore Hungary, a very tiny town with a large 18th century church and an 1850-1860 tracker organ with the smallest single manual console Ive ever seen. There was a story in the paper there about how the cantor was no longer there, so there was no more organ music, the boy, Gábor Szabó-Réti had been taking piano lessons decided he wanted organ during service, so he went up during a service and started playing the music! After that the parish priest worked with him a bit and I assume the boy's parents did videos of him, and posted them, now he is about 17 and is extremely good and plays for the church services there. There, the organist usually has to sing to lead the congregation, AND play the organ, which the boy has done in the videos. They also don't heat the buildings like we do in the USA, so even the organist is attired in winter clothes and half gloves in winter!
O, those half gloves, you bring back awful-ish memories of learning several Chopin etudes in a room w a faulty window right next to the piano. I used always to feel chilled for decades after! That is a wonderful story you tell :)
I thought I knew this one. I didn't, but it brought goose bumps anyway. Great playing kid! All that practice has paid off. Keep at it and you'll go far!
Well done, young sir! It takes greater confidence to face an organ of this size and play it well than would be required to take the wheel of a sports car and return a creditable lap of, say, Nürburgring.
I hope “M” can connect with organist, Jeff Windoloski through Concordia. He is an AMAZING organist and has the UA-cam channel, “In the Lutheran Tradition”. Peace and blessings to your family!
I witnessed You ever so brief in passing from mediocre to more. Now I see You in All Your 11 year glory; well actually your glorious keyboard and mediocre You are not. As IF I was seated next to an Angel in Boy's adore. Your father a blessed man, your mother thrice more.

Pienamente d'accordo! La musica organistica, come gli organisti, sono beni preziosi da sostenere e coltivare specie i giovani organisti!!

It's crazy you're 11 years old and already playing Buxtehude. Very impressive.
What a blessing! May God continue to bless and guide you as you fulfill your ultimate potential! 🙏
You’ve earned both my and Buxtehude’s respect.
`Wonderful. This is a talent that to be grown like a fine rose so it blooms for all to see and cherish. His smile at the end is just heart warming and magical.
Masterfully done, young Sir! Bravo! 👏🏻👏🏻🎹
Great job, kid! I love this piece. In a few years, you'll be playing like Gert Van Hoef and Paul Fey, my UA-cam favorites.
I asked that a Buxtehude Preludium be played at my wedding.I hope "M" stays with it - what a glorious sound, and what a repertoire. Complimente!
What a wonderful talent this young man possesses. Great job!

Yes, it often looks like he's distracted when he plays but there seems to be a lot he's thinking about at once. Pretty cool! Thanks for watching!
..well.. ..there's only 78 years between us and yet I'm learning from you.. ..thank you for a memorable Sunday afternoon experience..

Really fine playing from this young man. I can see him one day being a concert Organist. Well done and all the best with your organ studies.
Being a LCMS organist myself of 46 years I had to retire because of arthritis, I still hadn’t a chance to learn this wonderful piece, Great job !!

Fantastically gifted by God
Brilliant, I really enjoyed this so much.
