Seth Holds a Surprise Inspection of His Monologue Writers in June 2024 - Late Night with Seth Meyers

Late Night with Seth Meyers

Let’s be honest, at this point Scollins isn’t writing for the monologue. He is intentionally writing himself into Surprise Inspection. It’s masterful. He knows we need to see his arms in the segment or life just doesn’t feel right.
Welcome to the zone 😂😂😂😂
I think you will find that this is a bit that is written, they all write jokes specifically for this bit.
@Ginric99 I think this person knows that, lol.
😁
The real genius is getting to show all the jokes that just wouldn't sit right in the monologue. Corrections, surprise inspection, and jokes Seth can't tell all give them a chance to do jokes we wouldn't otherwise see
That lady’s scream- and Seth’s excited reaction.. to her reaction. Right at the close. May have been the best
at least two people were left satisfied that evening, thanks to Scollins (three, if you count the grandma 😎)
@@maxborn7400 Sounds like Grandpa is doing alright for himself too.
This world would not be the same without Scollins. That lady’s scream has been his professional goal for years.
Scollins' body language is forever saying, "What? Come on, it's FUNNY!!!"
To me, that photo says, "Who says Im good at 3-pointerz"!!??
That last one was the best 😂🤣😂🤣😂😂🤣
Oh Grandpa! 😍😍😍
It's gold, Seth. Gold!
"Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Can't you take a joke?"
Seth, start a new segment: Jokes Seth can't tell, that were written by Scollins.
That we are written by Scollins??? Autocorrect is a monster.
Oh my God, that shriek after the milkshake joke has me in tears! 😂😂
I heard her laugh in closer look, she was having the best time lol I’m jealous
I feel bad that I didn't get the milkshake joke, can anyone explain it lol
@@skylineagg oh come on, you don't need to be a cunning linguist to work it out.
@@stevencgr As a big fan of this show and of James Bond, I approve of this response.
@@skylineagg the milkshake tasted like grandma, and her husband confirmed it. So the answer is what part of grandma would grandpa have tasted…
That picture of scollins is like "eyy I'm writin jokes over hereeee"
The last joke is the perfect Scollins joke :)
Everybody's grandpa liked that. 🤣 that got an audible reaction from me even 🤣🤣🤣
We need an 'Oops! All Scollins' joke segment at this stage
Surprise Inspection is the "Highway to the Scollins Zone". (Kenny Loggins)
"Thinking up those jokes. Wishing for the howlin roar.
Funny or offensive.
Begging you to laugh or cringe.
Highway to the Scollins Zone..."
Tyson's guy showing a little leg was so darn cute funny.
very dad jokish.
The dentist/gum joke was good; it absolutely sounds like it would be part of a normal monologue.
I liked that one as well.
Me too.
It was my favorite. It's witty and a bit smart.
Hello , a Brit here. Would just to to say that Matt's joke was brilliant and got my seal of approval
Seth should have been singing that joke.
Thank you for letting us know you're British so I could read your post with an accent.
It had no business being on this list. It was clever.
I could laugh at it, but I'd have to charge.
No, don't encourage him! Writers don't know how to deal with praise in a healthy fashion!
Scollin's new ringtone. ”I LOVE HIM” , ”III LOOVE HIM”.
Surprise inspection is my favorite late night segment. I like that I can guess most of the writers for the jokes.
Trying to figure out who wrote which joke has become a new favorite game of mine.
howdy fellow jackal 🐾
If the setup starts with “today is ___ day” odds are it’s a Scollins special
A drinking game of mine called "Callin' Scollings" 😅
@@alumpyhorse correction: it’s “howdy, fellow Jackal”. You forgot a comma and a capitalization. :P
@@micahpilson9836 hmmmm
Wouldn’t it then be: Howdy, fellow jackal!🐾
I mean, the word jackal is not necessarily capitalized. And as I write, I catch myself wondering if we should follow British or American spelling of capitaliz(s)ed. We could go on for a while like this…😀
It's funny that Matt was allowed to update his headshot but Scollins is forever stuck with the tank top photo
Please, Scollins would never want to change that photo 😂
Seth's reactions are what make these duds gold. 😂😂😂
3:13 at the punchline I shouted, "SCOLLINS!" while at my desk at work and subsequently had an impromptu meeting with HR.
😂
Im proud to say: I called the Scollins!
me too
That last joke is harrowing. I feel like I have to show it to other people to save myself, like the tape from The Ring.
Scoville as a measurement unit is already well established, Scollins seems like a good metric to standardize for the entertainment industry.
Hi! Long time viewer, first time jackal. I told my wife about Scollins' jokes in the surprise inspection. Please thank him as I then discovered the bed in my guest room is actually quite comfortable.
If the "corn star" graphic had been someone playing corn hole, it totally would have worked!!
umm forgive my ignorance - WHAT is corn hole (or am I going to regret asking....) 🤔🤨🤐
@@juliaconnellit’s a game of bean bags filled with dried corn that you throw at wooden planks with a hole in them
Yeah, but Iowa is known for corn growing. Lots of corn fields there.
@@madonnadersch3462 awesome - thank you!
@@sailorjupoak kia ora / waves 🙂🙃👋 from Aotearoa/New Zealand - with the greatest of respect - even *i* know that Iowa is known for growing corn...
... 'got' the 'joke' - corn reference, Iowa - the original 'joke' _as is_ STILL doesn't work -
_only_ funny cause Seth's delivery...
kia ora btw is 'hello, greetings - literally 'be well' 💖😽
lol! the sugarfree gum joke was great!
agreed - Seth's facial expressions were 🔥🔥🔥
I love, love, love that he did Surprise Inspection with Eddie Murphy somewhere backstage.
Seth admits he loves Scollins too, like us Jackals.
Other late night hosts made jokes about the same topic, the McDonalds McFlurry flavor. But Scollins' joke was an out-the-park Grand Slam. Well done Mike. LOL!!!!
Apparently, it's not "too soon" anymore for the Siegfried & Roy joke. I remember David Letterman doing the "Pulling Siegfried out of Roy" joke.
Bryan always on point with the corny pun dad jokes
2:21 sort-of correction: in Barcelona, people may or may not use that "th" sound when speaking Spanish, but Catalan does not have that sound at all. The way you pronounced "Barcelona" on the show is pretty much exactly right.
No, it isn't. They call it Barcelona as the rest of Spaniards except people from some provinces in Andalucía that make the s sound in some "c" letters (not in every one, but the ones placed as it is in Barcelona would sound as Seth pronounced it)
It's close, said grandpa. 🤣
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
at least it was cremated!!
The Scotland Yard joke was pretty good. So was the cat-to-work one. Barcelona was rather clever.
surprise inspection is the ideal jackal recreation
We haven’t seen the real Scollins in person for a while…..I feel a sighting is due
He was on not too long ago! Or maybe it was on an episode of the Emmy nominated, critically unhinged Corrections?
Agree! But he would need to take a bath
@@pesky-media would it matter? We can’t smell him
@@sheetal_viewsI understand your response as perhaps you’ve never bathed , but if you were to appear on television in front of millions of people, most people would want to clean up. I encourage you to try it for the sake of those near you my friend😂
@@pesky-media wow, you’re funny. I hope humour helps you to cover up your inadequacies….doubt it helps
I like the fifth dentist joke!
Luke Wilson probably loved this segment. 😂
6:07 OMG YESSSSSSSSS best reaction to a joke!!!! She was shooookkkkkk 😂
Scollins got a jump scare with one of his jokes - I believe he can die happy now.
I live for the Scollins zone.
I'm also here for the Sco-Zo
These are comedy gold. Kudos to all involved.
Scollins! My favorite! "Bro....", is my first reaction to all his jokes, followed by 😭😂😅
Seth is really great at slyly celebrating his writer team. Bravo!
I loved that “fifth dentist” joke!!!
Bet scollins was happy after that mcflurry joke.
Damn that last joke was awesome 😂
Ally’s joke about the dog in the urn is still one if the best to ever show up on Surprise Inspection
I also laughed out loud at the jump scare reaction!
I must be super used to these writers because I actually liked most of them haha
That period joke by Scollins was legit gold, I laughed way too loud 😂
Watched this once .. came only to enjoy it again and just relish the joy !
SCOLLINS!!!!!!! Nice rip at the end. Love that audience reaction.
Milkshake Scotland Yard joke was amazing
Yep that last Scollins joke had me spitting out my coffee whilst laughing.
In a way, the corn star one works because people online often say corn rather than...the other word... to avoid platform censorship 😂
I laughed audibly at that one
Im messed up, I love these jokes😂
Surprise inspection, always fun.
I usually know the ones by Scollins. I like to shake my fist and say, Scollins!
😂🤣😂🤣
I immediately knew, Siegfried & Roy had to be Scollins.
Same!
We all saw that last joke coming, but it was nightmare fuel all the same.
Just like Grandma.
That "corn star" joke was great! Absolutely should have been in the monolog!
And he didn't say who wrote it!
I want to know who wrote it too!
It's hacky af. They were right to not include it. It's like serving pb & j at dinner party. Yeah almost everyone likes PBJ... But do you really want to be the person who serves PBJ at a party?
If I had to guess, Brian wrote it. His jokes are always a little corny...😅
@@sailorjupoak he is from the Midwest, too
Fifth dentist joke was hilarious
I fucking love Scollins, he's god damn hilarious.
Corn star , roy, 5th dentist and mc flurry were all great lol
I love surprise inspection. to be clear, corrections is tops, but surprise inspection's up there.
Um, I kind of liked the Dentist joke.
Took me a solid 10 seconds to get it >.
That's because it's a good joke!
I laughed so hard at the last joke I'm seeing floaties in my vision and nearly threw up. Thank you Mike Scollins, next Dunkin's on me!
Those of us who watched a lot of TV commercials in the 70s and 80s thought the "fifth dentist" one was pretty clever
I mean, the Grandma joke was pretty good. lol
OK, I'll admit the one about the gum really made me laugh 😆 Really, it did!
Just told my girlfriend to take the compliment, we are now both bleeding heavily
😂
Noooo Seth, don't tell us who wrote before!! I love trying to guess the writer, and I'm like +90% accurate with Scollins
As an American jackal living in Barcelona, "Barthhhh-alona" IS NOT HOW "Barcelona" is pronounced here! We speak Catalan here (a language that is kind of a French/Italian/Spanish mix), and the "ce" sound is pronounced as an "s." It's just "Bar-suh-LO-nuh"!! (Also, in Catalan, "jackal" is "xacal" (pronounced "schuh-KAL").)
It's also an extremely tired joke that every comedian seems to think is funny and original.
What is most funny is at Barcelona they write signs about taxi in Catalan, Spanish and English
Was looking for this exact correction. Well done.
Fellow jackal in Barcelona here. Absolutely right!
I *really* enjoyed that, especially the last joke reaction.
Surprise Inspection or not, Scollins had the joke of the night
"These jokes aren't usable."
Tells jokes. Audience laughs uproariously.
Great jokes all.
My favorite part of surprise inspection is the proud look on Seth's face when he gets to pass on the pain of the writers room to the audience
That 5th dentist joke is solid.
Correction:
Long time jackal admirer first time jackal.
In Barcelona it is pronounced more or less the same way we pronounce it with the 'c' sound like the 's' in 'see' or the way a 'c' would be pronounced in Latin America. The joke whereby someone studies abroad and says "actually it's BarTHelona" would be pronouncing the city as they would in parts of Spain where Castellano is spoken illuminating a general misunderstanding of the language spoken there or the unique qualities of Spain's many Autonomous Communities (which does check out for said student abroad). Barcelona is in Catalunya where Catalan is spoken and the 'c' generally sounds like the Latin American 'c' not the Castellano 'c.'
TLDR: In Barcelona they say Barcelona the same way an English speaker would (more or less).
I think that for April Fool's day next year, there is a "Surprise Inspection" but its the writers (or at least Amber) reading jokes Seth wrote that ultimately didn't make it to air.
I've said it once, I'll say it again. You need a Jokes Seth Can't Tell segment, where Seths sets up the Scollins joke and Scollins finishes the punchline.
As a native Iowan, I can appreciate the corn star joke.
For Corrections:
Regarding "Barcelona" pronunciation I would like to say that Barcelona is in a region of Spain that has its own language "Catalan". In Catalan, the 'C' in BarCelona is pronounced as in English (like an 'S' sound). So... in this case, Seth pronounced properly at first, like in the native languange of Barcelona. Well done!
Last one is hilarious!
As a dad that loves dad jokes. These are all gold!
From someone who grew up in Iowa that was a fabulous joke, Seth.
The Siegfried and Roy joke and the 5th dentist one made me😂😂
The Roy Cat joke was honestly pretty good.
6:19 look at how the miniature aligns with the writer's portrait.
Scollins wins inspection every damn time.
Roasting Scollins after the Celtics won a championship is peak trolling.
I almost missed this one. Thanks for corrections I didn't. It was GOLD.
Okay but the dentist gum joke was actually funny!!!
The Siegfried and Roy joke and the Grandma Icecream joke were actually amazing.
And the last Scollins joke was awesome
My favorite Mass-hole/ joke maker.... Scollins!!!!!!!
🥴🥴
That Scotland Yard joke was perfection.
All of these jokes are so good and this is the hill I will die on
As a Brit, the only issue with the milkshake joke was that its wasn’t at Farage’s expense
Hey, if you want to get out of that heat wave, then you could always take a vacation and come here to Arizona. 😂
