HOW TO CROCHET YOUR OWN DREADLOCK TAM Part 1: BEFORE YOU GET STARTED

  • So I finally mustered up the will to kick off this "HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN DREADLOCK TAM" series that I've wanted to do for a long while now. This series was from my other channel but now that the ATREYU CROCHET channel exists, I think it's only fitting to have the series relocated here. I hope you find it helpful. My thinking is that it's better to teach you how to fish vs just giving you fish. In that way, it's the gift that keeps on giving :)
Even though the Atreyu Crochet channel is for beginners, I think it's not only a good idea but necessary to build upon the basics. The great thing about crocheting is that even the most complicated of patterns can still be broken down to the very basics of crocheting.
Don't ever approach a crochet pattern with doubt. Simply break down the pattern and approach it one stitch at a time. If a stitch is foreign to you, then find a UA-cam tutorial on it, learn the stitch, and resume with the pattern. Although our starting point is that of a beginner, it is also true that that is not our destination.
    Happy Crocheting! :)

Hi, I am so happy that you're crocheting. My Uncle could do everything. He crocheted, knitted, sewed and cooked. I guess he was a jack of all crafts. Keep up inspiring others to pick up the craft.

Thank you very much! Yes, it's really cool to be able to do things that people wouldn't expect me to be able to do. Your uncle sounded like quite the man! Thanks for writing me :)

I subscribed to your channel, cause I was impressed by the men on UA-cam crocheting, so I wanted to atart5 subscribing, but I flipped by cause I didn't know what a ram was. So today I said I want to find out, surprised to find out or a the same as what I call beanie. I'm glad I stayed this time, this is very good info for begiiners, which I'm some what beginner. So thank you we need more teachers for us beginners.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write me, Fay. That's interesting that you mentioned the tam/beanie story because I too, at one point, wondered what the difference was between a tam and a beanie. Thank you for your kind words. I definitely hope to help anyone interested in learning how to crochet. It can be very therapeutic, as I'm sure you know :)

WOW! Talk about timing! I was asked towards the end of last winter if I knew how to make a Tam. Well after a Google search I knew that Google was stupid because all the Tams I found were Scottish or Irish. I wanted to learn how to do them for guys for their dreds and now I will! They look almost like a beanie but seem wider. I guess that's to hold all the locks? Very good first part. I am a seasoned crocheter but still watched the entire video. YOU DID GOOD!💖 Will be waiting for the next part! Already told my son to let the guys at his job know this old lady is gonna learn! Already have color requests! Will be picking up Jamaican flag colors in anticipation of the next lesson!
    Thanks again and be blessed.

Yes, tams allow for more room at the back for the locs. I love that my videos are coming out right on time for what you want to do. That's so awesome! Thanks for letting me know. I guess it was meant to be :) Let me know if you have any questions along the way :)

Hi, thanks for the great video tutorial! I was wondering if the pattern is written down somewhere? That would be more portable for me than trying to surreptitiously watch your video while crocheting somewhere in public that I'm supposed to be paying attention, haha.

Haha...I understand. Unfortunately, I don’t have it written down online but I will try to get it put in the comment section soon. Thanks for watching🙏🏾

I can't see why any kind of creativity must be assigned to a gender. It's silly and ridiculous. I'm glad you pride yourself on being a creative, it's a beautiful way of being.
