    The biggest thing for me about these 605's (as a Canon user) is that these can work both on my 5D and 60D, whereas with the previous 603's I would need a different set for each camera.

    hello, i am trying to use RF650N with my YN560III and Nikon D3s...no luck, i don't get this, it should be dead simple, is there any other videos I could watch?more details showing exactly the whole set up? I am pretty positive I am setting it up correctly...please help! :-(

      Toni Martin, they don't make RF-650n transceiver. Beside that.
      Make sure on camera is set in transmitter while other is slave with same Channel & Group.
      Batteries are fresh?
      Press both test buttons show "green"?

    That second cable is not for a studio strobe rather it is for the d3000-5000.7000 cameras.

    OK, thanks for the overview, impressive device.
    I use the 603C set up as well as the 622 (sans the 'TX' transmitter). So from just the perspective of the shutter release aspect, not the flash capabilities, does the 605 shutter release have the ability to lock in place without the photog holding down the button throughout the exposure? Most cable release cords as most here are probably aware, offer this option, freeing up the photographer. I use my 603, mainly for remote shutter releases and the 622s for my flash set ups.

    Thank for the info in this video, good info. I own a Nikon D5300 and Yongnuo YN-568EX. I'm trying to improve my off-camera flash photography. What are my options for fully controlling my off-camera flash? YN560-TX or maybe a YN622N-TX?
    Thanks again, Richard

    Thanks for the review! I know I'm late to the discussion, but I actually found the idea that one can trigger two cameras + flashes remotely very interesting, as I'm trying to set up a system to do 3-D/stereo portraits (requiring two cameras) with artificial light. So obviously the cameras and flashes need to be synched well enough for both cameras to get the full benefit of the flashes.
    So, if you remember your experience with this system, do you think that would work? Of course, if you are aware of other, more recent product that could solve the problem, I would very much appreciate to learn about that too :-)
    And lastly, is there any need for the transceivers used to control camera firing to be mounted in the hotshoe?

    • @PTPhotoGearReviews
      @PTPhotoGearReviews  5 років тому +1

      Hi Karsten, the triggers that are connected to the remote socket will only fire the cameras but you could put your speedlights on the hot shoe and they will fire or if you use 560III or iV's they have the trigger built in so all will fire together if that's what you're looking for but only in manual mode! If you use old 560's they will need triggers for each flash but it will work. Thanks for connecting in. Paul

    Hey mate,
    thanks for the review - very comprehensive.
    I'm fairly new to the whole photography world but have been collecting a number of items to start with and have 2 YN560 III's, and 3 YN568's (2 on their way in mail.) I also have bought the YN-560TX ubt not yt explored all it's functionality.
    I have a Nikon D5300. My question is will the YN560TX operate the power levels of the 568's as well as the 560's?
    The reason I ask is that Yongnuo just released a YN 568EX II (for Canon only) with a Master control and the Nikon version is yet to be released - therefore it seems to me that the above YN560TX together with the YN605 triggers give me the master control anyway - but still without the iTTL capability (I can live without that for the moment - as I've spent too much money on speedlites as it is!
    cheers and thanks again for the review,
    Ian

    • @PTPhotoGearReviews
      @PTPhotoGearReviews  9 років тому

      ***** Hi Ian, unfortunately the 560tx only works with YN's manual speed lights, however, YN does have a YN622N-tx for under $50 that will control the 568ex which might be your best bet for iTTL work.
      Cheers, Paul

      PATHTECHDESIGN Thanks Paul, I'll look into the YN622N, which I've heard good things about for iTTL - was just hoping I could get one unit to control all....... ah well that's life! cheers,Ian

    Can it trigger via the pc terminal only, or does it have to be mounted in a hotshoe to trigger other receivers?
    I have some film cameras that have only pc terminals (nikon F3, Zeiss ikon, ect) and would like a trigger that can fire just from the pc terminals.

    • @PTPhotoGearReviews

      It can fire from the 3.5mm terminal while not mounted on the hotshoe if that's what you mean.

    • @DanFlint
      @DanFlint 9 років тому

      I wanted to know, when I have the trigger just connected to the PC sync port of a camera, will it trigger/ TX the fire flash signal to the receivers? or does the TX need to be mounted on a camera hotshoe to trigger?
      I have the 603's but they need to be on the camera shoe to trigger other flashes.
      Thanks for getting back, and the great video!

    • @makatron

      +PATHTECHDESIGN +Steve Magoo exactly the same question that I wanted to ask, maybe isn't a shoot-thru hotshoe that allows for TTL connectivity like the Phottix Stratto II that I use. I think he means the red focus assist beam that comes out of the Nikon SB flash itself.

    I found very interesting this function of being able to turn on and off groups quickly. I've been trying to figure out how to do this with my 560-TX and I haven't been able to do this so far. In other words, say you have two 560s in group A and two in group B at an event. And you're firing either group A or group B. And in some shots you want to far both groups, can you do it with the 560-TX? But if you have this on your hotshoe, you can, correct?

    • @PTPhotoGearReviews
      @PTPhotoGearReviews  9 років тому

      You can do this with the 560-TX by selecting - - for the group you want to be off. The two dashes means off.

    • @mapioskoloni9784
      @mapioskoloni9784 9 років тому

      PATHTECHDESIGN Thanks for the quick reply. But how can you fire more than one group with the 560-TX? Is there a mode to fire all groups? Because so far, I've been selecting only one group at a time, by selecting that group, and then the little arrow appears to the left of it.

      Just got my first set of 605s. They seem to trigger my 560 IV just fine, but I’m confused about one thing. When I deactivate a group, say F, from the screen, so it does not show, that flash still fires. Whereas when I do it from the 560-TX, and I make the mode of that group ” - - ” I make it inactive and it doesn’t fire. What am I doing wrong with the 605s in terms of deactivating the group?

    Would these work with a Nikon D610? I want to invest in these! Great video

  • @jimowens8105
    @jimowens8105 9 років тому

    Just got a pair of these. I have a couple of scenarios to apply them on, but have found limitations.
    I want to photograph birds with a remote camera and hand held camera. In this case I want to have a camera with a flash mounted close to the feeder, stage with a normal or wide angle lens and a tripod mounted camera I will control in a blind with a telephoto lens fire at the same time with the flash connected to the remote camera.
    (1) The NIkon TTL is NOT supported as a pass through. If I place the 605n in the hotshoe and then mount a SB-700 onto the 605n the flash will not fire in TTL mode, but will in manual.
    (2) The second camera can only be triggered by the 605n directly by pressing the multi function button. Pressing the shutter release on one camera with either the 560-Tx or a 605n cannot be used to trigger the second camera. I only have the one shutter connector cable with the rectangular end for the D610 and D7100.
    If I had two of the connector cables, with two 605ns (or one 605n and one 560-Tx) will pressing the shutter release on one camera trigger the shutter release on the other camera?

      Wow, good question Jim. I'm going to give that a shot right now and let you know. Stand by.

    • @PTPhotoGearReviews
      @PTPhotoGearReviews  9 років тому

      Hi Jim, just tried it with 603's and it works fine. 1 603 on each of our d200's with the shutter release cable connected and one extra 603 to fire both cameras remotely. Both camera's fired. BTW, 605's are not supposed to work in TTL, these are manual triggers only.
      I'm going to sync my 605's into the mix and try those but I'm sure it will work. I'll get back with my results. I think this topic will make a great video.

    • @jimowens8105
      @jimowens8105 9 років тому

      Thanks for the fast response Paul. This would have other uses for me in sports or in theater with multiple cameras. The major question is if the camera's shutter release triggers the setup or if the triggering can only be done through the multi function button on the Yongnuo devices.
      As for bypassing the pass through on the 605 to the SB700, all of the contacts for the flash are located on the top and bottom of the 605. My guess is that the need to use Pre-Flash would muck up the works for the other manual strobes in the setup..

    • @PTPhotoGearReviews
      @PTPhotoGearReviews  9 років тому

      Ok Jim, good news. Synced my 605's to TRX603 mode and I was easily able to fire both cameras equipped with 603's using a 605 to actually trigger both cameras. Next I put my 560TX on one camera again connecting the shutter cable from camera to 650TX and used a 605 to fire both cameras and it worked perfectly so I think you're good to go my friend with the one caveat. If you want to shoot in TTL then you should be working with 622n's. I'm pretty sure Yongnuo are working on a system like the phottix odins that will do both but no sure the eta on such a system.

      @jimowens8105 9 років тому

      Paul, Great vids and follow up on questions. Even a year later... :-)
      I guess the answer to my main question is no. Can the Camera Shutter button trigger the system? The only way to trigger the system is to use the multi function button on the 605n unit.
      Here is the scenario.
      I am standing in a theater with camera #1 in my hand. It has a 605 in the hot shoe set to TRX mode. There is a shutter cable plugged into the camera from the 605.
      Camera #2 is on a tripod in the orchestra pit with a wide angle lens. It has a 560 Tx in the hot shoe with a Shutter cable plugged into the camera.
      There are two Yongnuo 560 flashes on the corners of the stage set to receive the signals form the 560 Tx mounted on the camera in the orchestra pit.
      When I press the shutter release "of the camera" in my hand what happens?
      I think the answer is NOTHING.
      What I have to do is use the Activation Button on the 605 in my left hand while controlling the camera in my right hand.
      Once again Paul. Thank you for posting these videos.

      The YN-565EX/568EX/500EX (and MkIIs) models do not have a radio receiver built in. Thus you will need a transmitter on the camera a receiver on the flash. My recommendation, two 605N and a YN560TX.
      Reason is down the road if you decide to add more flash and you want remotely turn them on/off the combination of the YN560TX and 605N provides that capability. That is what I do, I have two YN-560 III, and two Alien Bees. My two 560 III are controlled by the 560TX (power, zoom, on and off), the Alien Bess are turned on or off cannot control their power. Each device is on a separate channel all controlled by the YN560-TX. No, i do not do iTTL nor eTTL, all manual flash. Hope that helps.
