In this video, HB takes The Pro's Closet through the technical aspects of his race winning bike as well as the the challenges downhill racers faced in the early 90's...like hard-tails, tension disks, and pedaling uphill!

I'm a roadie, but this was great and Greg seems like a genuinely good dude who is still young at heart, having a good time, and happy to be alive. Zero sign of pretension.

Having raced 90s DH and XC on cantilevers, I totally agree with HB about people with disc brakes.

One of my all time favorites growing up. When I was 16, I use to work at a Hobbyshop called Sheldon's Hobbies in San Jose California. When I started working there, there was this one dude that would just walk behind the counter and start grabbing parts for his rc off-road cars and place them on the counter for purchase. Being a past bmx racer converted to racing mountain bikes, I knew who that was....it was Greg Herbold. I said, " HEY !! What are you doing bro !! Aren't you suppose to be on the trails shredding ??? " He said, " Nah brotha ! I need to get my rc cars going when I goto the races. " LOLOL !! We talked for awhile about RC cars and bikes. The super cool thing he did for me that day was that he gave a few Onza coffee mugs with his name on them, foam coasters with his pic on them, 8 boxes of Onza tires in white compound, and tons of Onza and RockShox decals. He was on his way to RockShox when they were located in Silicon Valley. What's cool about this video is that he's on a RC off-road track and his 1/8th scale electric buggy from Losi is on the corner at 4:49. It's good to see him still in the hobby. One of the coolest cats in the mountain biking industry I met when growing up.

Great to see all these heroes of my youth here again. I started mountainbiking in late 1991 when I was 15 years old on an GT Talera. Greg was always one of my favorite MTB race drivers. He always had the coolest parts and stuff on its bikes like Tioga Disc Drive, white Onza tires, Grafton and Ringle parts and later the legendary Rock Shox Mag 21 SL Titanium and stuff like that. Hey I even had a Greg Herbold sticker on my Flite Evo 2 saddle.

I started racing mtb around 90-91. Did downhill races and Xc on cantilever brakes. I shake my head when I think about it now.

Pretty cool to see guys my age remembering their fat tire exploits! I still have my 1997 Proflex 857. I was running the green Porcs for dry races. Red bike with bright green tires looked so cool.

Ok...I come from a motocross backround as well 70/80's....Looks like a 1980 YZ125G ( the 1980 yamaha motocross line up all had #1 on the number plates) at 8:24....from the angle its a right side drive which coincides with moto observation plus I have one....love the passion Greg has for his old steed and how he puts modern day mtb whiners in there place. The 90's truly was the golden age of mtbking and that where my mtbking roots were planted

I'm about to get this triple cross, it's a beaut, I believe it was top of the line, quick cross, sport cross, then triple, I worked at a bike shop, so I can tinker on it, I like the cantilevers, all you need, just change the pads when they wear out, I thought about converting it to single front chainring, and maybe changing stem and bar, but idk if it would be considered a crime.
