Honestly the Beeple sale actually legitimised this whole NFT thing. The Logan Paul and NBA crap was just cashing in on a trend. Beeple is proof that NFTs solve the old-as-the-internet problem of being able to make a living off digital art.

idk, I would say that NBA found a new "trading card alternative". and of the major sports leagues in North America, they were the first to start an official esports league with 2k League
but, yeah beeple sales did help make NFTs a thing for digital artists

The thought of brands competing with audiences is a mind bender. Brands pay to get access to the audience, the audience buys the brand’s products, which funds additional ad spending. Now a brand has to compete to essentially remain a middle man - outbidding the audience for the access to the audience’s purchases rather than the audience supporting the creator directly. Whew.

I remember seeing Mike in the Corridor Crew 45min render challenge! man swears every other second! I would say his style is like a surrealist 3D caricature/social-Political cartoon
From watching his streams it seems like he's got an asset library that would make Turbosquid blush and a super janky cooling system for his PC which allows him to make renders so fast.
19:50 I would argue that it's not new and visual artists have been using IG, Flickr, Behance, and even blogs to gain exposure for a while. NFTs made people pay attention.
I DO agree that the term "creator economy" will expand to be thought of anyone who makes creative things
    nice vid, guys!

I'll go check out your other video too with Logan, because maybe you talk about this over there, but I'd really love to hear a lot more about why there's such an outcry for creators to NOT sell NFTs, specifically I'm thinking of Jacob Collier who cancelled the sale of his NFT because of a huge outcry from his fans regarding the environmental impact do to the mining. That seems like a huge part of the conversation that isn't addressed enough

"the primary of function of art, people are buying it to resell it" this should never be it's main function. I don't get why so few are talking with established artists or art experts about NFTs. Most people who are interested in this topic seem to be speculative investors who want to make a lot of cash by being early in this space, but even for that the prices are already insane. I mean what would a Banksy or Damien Hirst NFT sell for? 300 million, 1 billion? Something like that could easily break the whole system. In the end you just own a certificate and not a museum piece

Great video guys! I love the concept of people being able to potentially invest in the creators work and have the potential to share in the growth gain over time... I have always been interested in the UA-cam space as a potential revenue stream but would not necessarily want to be in the videos myself or involved in content structure. This could be a great way to allow creators to benefit from investment in their businesses without being tied to someone who would feel the need to control the content direction.
Would love another deeper dive into this space in the near future!

On diamonds: I actually believe there are several qualities that contribute to inherent value, such as beauty (not socialized, but true simple beauty), scarcity, and of course demand. If you see others interested, it reinforces it. So part of it is socialized (20th century ads starting the idea of a diamond engagement ring) but most of it is inherent. Like gold.

  • @WishItWas1984
    @WishItWas1984 3 роки тому +3

It's all smoke and mirrors. It's a gamble with insane amounts of money and speaks to how certain individuals have too much of it. A digital piece of art has value, but there's nothing special or original like an original piece of tangible art. I can own a print of Starry Night, but the physical canvas is special, yet they are the same image. A digital file, regardless of whether it has a receipt attached, is no more special or meaningful than another, even if people lie to themselves and say it is. If someone truly loved Beeple's work for $69 million, why did that patron not reach out to Beeple earlier to buy a set of JPGs? Or make one-off JPGs just for him/her? This all smacks of overly wealthy people infected with a major case of FOMO and need to throw liquid assets into anything that can retain value amongst similarly deluded individuals with a lot of money.

The interesting thing with NFTs and the ownership aspect of them. Is that when it comes to art Museums and the certificate of Ownership is important and in some cases is the only thing of real value, especially when it comes to art pieces that are meant to decay and have parts replaced. NFTs allow art museums to have that certificate of ownership for art pieces made for being consumed Digitally. Art is made with the experience of the viewer in mind (most of the time). And some are is made to only be experienced in the digital space. NFTs, give Museums the ability to invest in those types of art better than before.

I like your current podcast format. Excellent. I am really surprised since you started covering NTFs that you seem to be sceptical about it. I am not talking about stupid useless art. I am talking about real art. I have been buying digital art for over a decade, but I never get to have value for any of the downloads I got. It is exactly worth as much as someone who ripped it off a website. So NFTs for me are very important. I think if you guys still do not appreciate art, you should invite someone who does.

    My answers to the question:
    1. Yes you do sort of give a chill Bill Gates vibe
    2. I am a high school student so I don't really have much financial knowledge but if the NFT were something related to my favorite sports team, creator(Artist, Musician, UA-camr, etc) I believe in then I am most probably willing to pay up to like 5k lol since my interest I feel like is of small creators who I believe might blow up. If its someone who I just met and wants to buy their art I would say at max 100 due to lack of knowledge.
Good luck on getting 10k likes(I already liked), can't wait till you hit 200K 👍

Do you think the NFT market may at some point rebound; specifically, maybe fine art NFT? Despite falling out of favor, it seems like a great way to sell high-value art because of anti-copy protection of the original work.
