Really solid show from the Betty era. May have been broadcast on live radio. the next day they played the ogden theatre show which is also in full on youtube!
“If you saw these guys on the street you wouldn’t even know they were cool”
-Bevis & Butthead
94 was their prime i cant even lie. Playing their best tracks in this
I think I agree. Meantime and aftertaste are tied as my favorite helmet records, but their live shows during the Betty era where at their peak
What do y’all think of helmet nowadays? Do you like the newest members like Dave Case and Kyle Stevenson(sp?)...?
Jordan Williams i only listen to their old stuff from strap it on, in the meantime, betty, aftertaste thats it RIP
@@thesilverhawaiian5024 Kind of agree. I can respect the stuff after the 90's, but this right here is the shit.
For shure my friend
No way! I was at this show! Freshman year of college, total snow and ice storm, secret show at a total dive in the outskirts of the city., we still made it. I'm down front somewhere. Can't believe I ran across this! What an awesome night.
that’s fucking awesome dude! is the audio from this bootleg acccurate to how it sounded? did the guitars sound brighter than this in person or is this spot on? i wonder because as a VHS recording it’s bound to sound a little muffled lol
@@braescanlon1829 It sounds perfect to me. Hell, I even remember Page's volleyball quip.
Turned Out is the most intense song ever written. Ever in any genre ever in history.
1994 was an incredible year for music. Most of the music played on rock radio is from 1994 even to this day.
38:30 im playing bass... No high five !
That was hilarious
Just Another Victim 🤘🏻John killing it on drums... without him it's not Helmet anymore... his grooves and special style made you move like no other... sure Page and all the rest made there contribution... and all together are Helmet... but Stanier's style is what stands out beside the guitar work ;-) many thx for sharing!
100% agreed. all of pages riffs were awesome but the really simple ones just wouldn’t hit nearly as hard if john wasn’t the drummer. the verse riff on “in the meantime” is as simple as possible but johns drumming turns it into the filthiest groove. same with songs like street crab or high visibility too in my opinion. super simple riffs that wouldn’t be nearly as heavy if it wasn’t for john
This was Helmet best line up|!
God damn stainer killing it
Always killed it
The man is a machine.
Nearly 30 years later that snare drum can still remember the beating it took that night...
I didn’t know The Warriors still did security in ‘94.
Got Ajax and Rembrandt throwing people back in the crowd.
Great band! Great track! Great album! Great live sound! Great performance! Loving Page’s Orange 9mm shirt! The soundtrack of my snowboarding life!
Look at Johnny boy over there beating the shit out of the kit.
His snare never gets old. I miss the dirty rhythms of the '90s.
This sound never gets old!! Way ahead of their time back in the 90's!! Great video. Thankxz
Aye brother! December 2021. Still listening to Helmet... and so are my neighbors.
Damn they really opened with their most popular song, that’s a bold move
there’s a handful of shows where they’d open with unsung they would usually open with role model or milktoast during this era. super good opener though! especially with the buildup intro. that shit is iconic
I remember having seen them at Dynamo festival 1997, I was stoned and got hyper focused on John Stanier, one of the best experiences ever, this guy is insane
King Stainer.....you changed how the world tuned a snare.
I was so there!
That snare!
I was just gonna say that
Stanier is GOD
I absolutely LOVE how slow and controlled TIC is here.
Their current drummer is good but he rushes the songs a LOT.
Stanier is king.
Their sound engineer is to be HAILED. They have the album sound exactly, whether it be in this club, or on the Jon Stewart show. Dude did his damn job perfectly. Comment with his name if you got it/can find it 🤘💙
oh yeah man absolutely. helmet shows always sounded so spot on with the album versions of the songs. especially based on the era and guitar tones at that time. the betty live tone is my personal fav guitar tone they ever had live coming from a guitar players perspective. those orange cabs sounded so THICK
saw them live in mid 2000's at a small bar, yep, sounded just like the album.
I don't think they have a dedicated touring sound guy! Pretty sure it's usually just the venue staff for Helmet
Pretty sure ts the Helmet guys that are to be hailed. A good band can sound like they are supposed to regardless of the sound man.
Dam skateboarders just love it
i’m a skater so yes!!
Saw them last week in Frankfurt again ! ❤️🔥👀🤟
I subbed because of this. This band sounded so good mainly because the bass player and drummer were completely on point, in sync.
SOLID AS FUK! I'm a drummer guitarist bassist that was totally drawn in by their Solidarity and syncopation!!
Like a Fine Antique German Watch /clock ( Nazi.. lol 😉)
They played FBLA II,one of my favorite songs from Meantime.
After 34 years They still blow my mind these MF
I miss the original DROP D tuning...!
New Helmet sucks. I do appreciate “Rock Messiah” though by Helmet in C from their Steve Albini sessions back in the day. That was long before these “nu metal” bands started drop tuning and jocking Helmets sound creating the Chevelle’s Deftones etc etc of the era.
I believe a few songs on Betty were in C#, but the reason why he tuned to Drop C was due to age and the vocal strain of singing in that range another answer I got was because of simplicity sake due to not having to lug around multiple guitars in different tunings.
@@organicoregano no songs on Betty were in C. Biscuits for Smut was standard tuning with the low E string tuned to A. But I agree 100% with the new style/tuning because i asked Page directly. His response was whack and downplayed that it was because due to age. He seemed upset that I offered at the fact that being a possibility.
@@standingstrong4761 I always thought I know was in c#
@@organicoregano oh yes you’re right and so was speechless and a song called Thick. The new helmet is in Drop C
In 91 I was working at a small fast food chain called Mr. Cooks. My co-worker turned me on to this band. When we closed,he cranked up the radio and put this on the intercom. Made cleaning the kitchen fun:)
I must’ve caught them 5 times from 91-94 from Gainesville to NYC the ULTIMATE!!’
An excellent upload!! Not sure if it's just the recording or maybe the sound guy at this particular gig, but I love the richness of the bass guitar sound because you can actually hear it so well. So often the bass guitar is drowned out, for many bands, whether it's live or even a studio recording. Whatever the reason, it sounds incredible!! You can't get any better than this...my favorite time/lineup of this band, the prime of this band as well and just 2 years after I first heard Unsung on Headbangers Ball, which also introduced me to this awesome AF band. That's not to say that this band is no longer any good because this band is still awesome AF, but just that time when music was...I don't know, just so much better, not to mention, the times which were just so much better. Getting older sucks ass...which is ironic because when you're young, you just want to get older and when you get older, damn...you just want to be young again. Lol. Luckily, there's videos like this that transport you back to a better time, with better music and even helps bring a tear to your old ass eye as well. Lol. Thank You. 🙂❤️🤘
Bass player is using a GL bass, similar to a Stingray (designed by same guy) with fat humbucker pickup to give that growling tone that cuts through the mix as it does here. Distort or overdrive it and you have this lovely bass tone, percussive and aggressive. Fresh strings on a GL sounds lovely. Not to everyones taste but you serve the song not the purists.
@@MarkPJordan Sounds awesome. 🤘 Always loved the use of the Bass by this band, especially having Rhythm and Lead Guitars to share the sound with/hear it over as well. Love Bands that really make use of a Bassist, like The Subways, another of my Fav Bands.
54:33 That bass drop is so fucking good.
Page rocking an Orange 9mm shirt.....nice
Feedback solo during Tic, amazing.
i love they way they’d break into iron head after the feedback solo thing at the end of tic! they did that a lot during this and the aftertaste era. such a cool way to make the setlist. all that abstract noise and feedback then suddenly break into one of their heaviest grooviest riffs. the crowds always lost their minds. there’s a lot of old shows on youtube where they did rhat
i wish i can go back in time to see these guys in their prime. #borntoolate
That short opening riff to Just another victim and the sound when the second guitar comes in followed by the drums. Good lord!
Always been a big fan of Helmet, didn't get to see them in the 90's but did see them twice in Adelaide 2008 and 2011 in Oz just Page left out of original lineup, 08 they played entire Meantime album backwarda lots of fun.
Page is a very cool down to earrh guy who hung out after with fans chatting signing shirts albums etc.
I didnt have a Helmet shirt or album but Page very kindly signed my Ministry Psalm 69 shirt, I said to him "You kniw Al
Don't you"
With a big grin he replied "I do".
Awesome night 😅
Love the song give it the best
He may write the songs, but John completes them.
This is fantastic footage. I actually saw Helmet a few months prior, the summer of 1994 in Pontiac, MI. Killer setlist, too
Hell yeah dude that's dope. I'm 17 currently so I obviously never had the opportunity to see them back then but their live sets during the Betty era when they had rob echeverria were flawless
John is god !¡!¡ helmet rules
Amazing to hear this live concert that mirrors the albums! I can only wish that i was there for this concert.
Fuckin love this shit. I can see silverchair took inspiration at the start from helmet
Wow. Just wow! Legends.
This is making me so happy! Thank you.
Wow this is beautiful, thank you!
Awesome! Thanks for this.
Thanks for this, amazing. Prime Helmet.
HOLY SHIT! This is beyond amazing!!!
This is awesome
Such a great band.
Those Betty songs sound even better live here than they do on the album. Excellent video!
My new favorite you tube vid
Thanks!
FERDA
Thanks for uploading this. so so cool!
Youre welcome man. I found this on another website and felt it needed to be on youtube so more people could see it
Fuck yeah!! Great upload.....thankxz 4 sharing..... HELMET RULES
HAHAHAHA!! JUST SEEN EM ON THE 30X30X30 TOUR. NOT QUITE THE SAME. LOVE THAT THEY PLAYED ROLLO HERE. THIS SOUNDS GREAT! BEEN LOOKING FOR A DECENT RECORDING. THX HOMIE!!
Incredible performance. I wish I was on my twenties, in USA back then. But I was just five in Italy instead. Good times though.
This set list is insane!!!!!
@Ryolence the show at ogden theater the night after is on youtube also and it also has an amazing setlist but incredible quality!
Awesome band at the height of their powers. Saw this tour Boston 1994
That’s the snare drum. Often duplicated, never imitated.
I hope I can be as good as him tbh
The raw sound of this era of helmet is one of my favorite things ever
@@noahwallace6006 same here i fkn love Helmet.... and thank UA-cam for having all of these old concerts oh, I was in high school when in the meantime came out
Awesome concert! Helmet is the right shit!
Curious who the girl is that was skipping through "Milquetoast" LOL! Wonder if she has even seen this clip.
the orange amplificators behind page are wonderfull
Federico Patrizi hell yeah dude 1992 OR-80 reissue
@@braescanlon1829 that sound like a wave of nooiiseee , perfect to slamdance in the crowd , or not ???? :) hellyeah ( is an oldskool reaction , but I can't immagine someting different when the music involve me completly )
The best part of this is I can see me in the pit :)
Check out Staniers backstrokes😂 beast legend. No ones hit harder before or since
Solo falto "Better" mi rola favorita para que esto hubiera estado redondo!, exelente aporte!
94 que buena epoca
safe and sound on the balcony.
Good rythmic
Oof the snare
any more old helmet shows coming soon? i can't get enough of 90s helmet live shows :)
Sorry but I'm not sure I'll be uploading anymore. I found these online on websites other than youtube and downloaded them and uploaded them so more people could see these shows
Me neither!! Best band of all time along with rage against the machine imo
Agreed, 90s Helmet is one of the best all-time bands, but I just can’t get into the modern Helmet. It’s not the same sound anymore.
@@jordanwilliams953 totally lost their groove. No Stainer, no Bogdan, no Helmet..
NOW!
Inteligence hardcore
alternative metal
Awesome fuckin' show.
r u kidding? helmet rulz
No Sinatra?
they are playing Unsung a bit slow!
need that orange 9mm shirt
Fucking blissfully Relentless. Broken string on ironhead was perfect for the sound.
Is it just me or does the security guy look and act like Ajax from the Warriors?😂😂😂
helmet crowd entirely too well behaved.)
Yeah definitely :/
43:01 back when you could throw people and not be sued or blasted on social media
They don’t make em like this anymore. Can a band sound any tighter? Stanier gold standard drummer. Ex oh ex oh.
Failure - Heliotropic - Fuzz bass cover. \M/ - UA-cam
I made a new video ^ \M/
I love that song......I wish I would have known about failure in the 90s because I would have been obsessed
What the heck is Page doing playing a Clapton-looking guitar
ESP strat he played sometimes during the betty era around 94-95. it is odd seeing him play anything other than the horizon customs!
Everyone in this band is like 6’6”.
Chad Ryan - UA-cam
Hey man I just made 3 new videos as of today! ;3 ^
I can see that Turnstile in my opinion the best recently recorded music so many influences of 90s post hardcore bands like these guys just a little sped up. Also Living Color and Faith no more keyboards supporting very simple riffs and funk bass lines that make them so much like 😢 post grunge bands that should have progressed years ago bit we had to wait and libe through bands like Creed who were so bad in my opinion it was loke spitting in the face of legends loke Eddi Veder and Jerry Cantrell who contributed so much to rock music just to have shitty bands who say they were influenced busy these Seatlle bands but other then tunning there guitars to drop D makes them good as well ajd it made them money just another reason to hate these quote on quotes bands so much more.
And Page is playing a Strat, what the fuck is going on? :)
it’s an ESP strat he played sometimes around 94-95
Shame on Helmet
For what??
This is a good recording but Dan he cut the drummer off s*** really
