If you look close you can see the rain on his pants in that shot. I figured it was on a tripod.
It was a tripod shot in 4K. Added camera movement in post ;)
Although Ashley helped with almost all the drifting shots including operating the boosted board with my camera hanging off it to get the rolling shots 😹

in case anyone didnt know, the new body he used on the rc car is a Toyota AE86 which is a famous car which is very popular in the drifting scene in japan, and his real car is inspired by the AE86

This just came up in my Recommended feed and wow, this takes me back. I got way into my Mini Z in senior year of high school (2002). I'm sure it's still in storage, might be time to dig it out and rebuild it.

Thanks for the video Drew! I did a similar thing and rebuilt my RC crawler and 1/8th scale race buggies and truggies just to break up my RC adventures. I also had Mini-Zs years ago but went into bigger scale and never really went back. I am sure I will get the Mini-Z bug again as they are very cool micro cars. The AE86 has a very cool lineage.

Mini-Z’s are fun - you can even get track kits that you can assemble to have your own mini-track, if you have the space.
Personally, I would go a little bigger - 10th scale is where it’s at. You can find cars by brands like Yokomo, MST... even Tamiya makes a few dedicated drift cars. There’s an entire aftermarket of options available.
And yeah, AMain Hobbies, Horizon Hobby, or better yet, if you have one close by a local hobby shop in your area should be able to get you hooked up with whatever you need. Let’s support the Mom & Pop shops wherever possible.

I was so into Mini-Z and Blade mCX2 back in the day! Really fun little indoor RC stuff. I would have kept going with Mini-Z but my daughter was chasing it around while I drove and CRUNCH. Maybe I'll rebuild mine now too...

I thought you was supposed to make me spend money on drones. 😂 A few months later, but it is still rainy season! The 3D mini-z circuit terrain is pretty lit for printing.. Nice thing about this scale is you can print your course!

Definitely enjoying the day. Celebrating my birthday today by doin some flyin. Like how you put the F & F Tokyo Drift theme song in there. Pretty cool car!
Now use some Blu-Tack/Plasti-Tac/Tack-it so you can cover up the LEDs on the inside of the wheel wells to give the RC an even better scale look so that the lights don't bleed out from behind the mudguards!
You could even get a few props like 1/28 scale water/concrete crash barriers for the track (use the Blu-Tack/etc to hold 'em down onto the wood floor to keep your Mini Z from knocking them out of place), street signs, and random bits of model greenery to give some organic life for future RC drift montages! It's a cheap fun way to spend time (when compared to driving a car in the rain and crashing it for real).

I've been having tons of fun with 1/28 scaled AWD buggies made by GP Toys that I bought for 20cad on amazon. They're really fast for their size and have proportional steering. Best 20$ I ever spent in RC. It's really fun to FPV at ground level and drive under ferns.
I think hands down the best part was the Tokyo Drift music montage. Brah, brah! Dope man. That editing was epic! :)

Hello, chase footage with a Whoop and insta360 now...great montage footy and the Tokyo Drift hook is spot on.
You can get a one way diff for the front and lock the back to help with the understeer and make the rear break loose a little easier. The one way is cheap and locking the back is free, both will help with drifting around the house.
You definitely drift that car better than the full size version🤔. I didn't see any fender damage on that one🤗🤣. Good job on the creativity man!👍

Now idk what kind of 1/10 rc you have but the space you have based off of 6:11 is plenty for some fun with a 1/10 rwd drift chassis, I’ve got less than that and still manage to squeeze a tight figure eight in, but killer build, also love your car

I remember similar scale ones being sold like 16ish years ago at radioshack were like 75$ each could upgrade them with light kits and all sorts of stuff I remember getting a skyline at the time with headlights and brakelights that added. Could swap out gears or motor for different things and wheels was really cool

Really useful video for me. Got my AWD Silvia down off the shelf to dust recently, probably used it twice from new on the tiled kitchen floor. Noticed how easily the batteries came out as I remember them being really tight to get in (yep, forgot to take them out)...and *#!$, the chassis is cracked across in two places. Found a model shop here in the UK with the chassis for sale and fitted it tonight. Yeah, proper fiddly job..forgot the brace over the steering rocker which was annoying being under the diff cover. They seem really fragile if it broke after about 15 minutes with no impacts. I think it was partly the tiled floor and the stress from the batteries, they feel just a bit too long (Eneloop AAA, a tad shorter than the Duracell and Amazon AAAs I've got.).

Great video! It’s good to see more people making content about mini-z 😸 I bet that missing screws belongs inside the battery bay & secures your servo tray. The screw hole is right above the center drive shaft, near the front.

Mini RC`s are amazing for bad weather, or if you say, have a broken leg or something lol, or if you`re a couple of dudes and/or dudettes and have a little track somewhere :)
Btw, mini Z`s have a whole communiity around them, at least last time I looked into it, there are tons of upgrades as well!
Another micro to look into is HPI Micro RS4. (it`s expensive as well lol)

Got myself 3 MiniZ, they are just fun. I love to take an US65 Cam/VTX combo just mounted with double sticking (soft) tape and another sticky pad for an 1s whoop lipo. Much better than the EMAX Interceptor, but EMAX is about great ideas for a good price. Kyosho Stuff is quite expensive 🔥🔥
