The only thing you need to actually give a police officer is your ID if they ask for it, you have a right to not answer any of their questions, you dont know what kind of person the officer is, they may just be curious or they are trying to find any reason to bust you. Its fine to answer but ALWAYS make sure you guys are staying on the topic of why the officer is detaining you or pulling you over or conversing with you dont branch out of topic if they try to do that with questions get the conversations back on topic so you can finish it quicker and get out.

I had a buddy back in high school who got roughly cuffed and dragged to jail for further questioning because he admitted to the cops that he was at a party that they had broken up earlier in the night. He had left long before that but apparently, there was some other Latino kid named Miguel who pulled a gun at that party. They threatened him, pressured him to confess and tell them where the gun was and generally treated him like garbage until some other witnesses from the party cleared his name. All of this happened because he figured it was safe to answer a couple of questions the police asked him when he would have been well within his rights to simply keep his mouth shut.

It's weird, but a friend told me people in the US have neighborhoods thar are mostly occupied by people of certain ethnicities or something like that, so it's not surprising.
It's a kid though, they will wonder why without malice. Even people who have day to day interaction with people of different skin tones may wonder about that, it's like "why do we have different skin?" But some crazy people see it like "why do they look weird?" And it's just dumb. They're kids, they ask why the sky is blue, of course they'll ask about people's appearances.
