As always, the extra vlogging segments are lovely, keep it up!
I somewhat grappled with similar thoughts to the first Wayfarer book recently. I was hoping it would be a new "Love it!" for me because one of my best friends is a huge Becky Chambers fan. But it landed more in the middle. I did enjoy her two Monk & Robot novellas more, I will say!

Vlogging really seems to be a fun way of talking about books.
Mercy of Gods sounds interesting, might end up trying it - didn't know it would be just a trilogy.
Shadow of What Was Lost is actually the worst in the trilogy, and you really should read the books as close together as possible - there are some moments in the third that will add context to some of what was seen in the first. It's not as tied-in as something like Hero of Ages, but it's up there.

I'm so jealous! I want to read Mercy of the Gods. I pre-ordered it, so I'll get it in Aug. I love the Expanse so much. I also love Daniel Abraham's series. I can't wait to read it.

I totally understand what ur saying… this year also been average reading for me and also DNFs aswell…. 😊

  • @erikareading
    @erikareading 2 місяці тому

Now I'm even more excited for Mercy of the Gods. I haven't read the Expanse (yet) either but I pre-ordered this one because a trilogy sounds more doable to start. Also I finally hear about someone who doesn't like humor driven books! I totally understand where you are coming from. I always think I'm going to like them but somehow I end up feeling drained after about 20 pages. I think somehow the jokes just take me out of the story like I'm watching a movie instead of immersed in the world.

The Expanse is sort of unofficially divided into three duologies and a trilogy. They each have a different flavor and wrap up their unofficial plot quite nicely

I’ll throw in a couple recommendations if I may
    1. Fritz von Erich the master of the iron claw by Ron G. Mullinax
    2. The mother hunt a Nero Wolfe mystery by Rex stout
    3. Once upon a time in fort sumner by John LeMay.

Should read the expanse already mate. It’s character driven, has lots of politics, keeps technobabble to a minimum but still based on real world physics (mostly)

Highly Recommend Cradle I promise, you will love the entire series. If I had to explain what it is, Imagine if no one would train Naruto but he (Naruto) knew Pain was coming to destroy his village.

I’ve been reading 150 pages a day in July as a personal challenge to reduce time wasted elsewhere and it’s going ok, I expect to hit a slump so I will slow down again in August. It’s persevering with bad books I have problems with I don’t like to DNF too early if I’m not enjoying it but this can cause issues. Kudos for finishing Long Way, I found that so tedious it’s untrue.

Agree about the Becky Chambers novel. I couldn't continue reading it because the characters and the story simply didn't get me interested. Read about 1/3. I'd give what I read a 2 out of 5.

I'm just going to say it: The best way to get out of a reading slump is to become a mood reader and read whatever the heck you feel like. Not what the teacher/algorithm/subscribers/ect tell you to. I know that is not much compatible with ratings.
MY best way to get out of a reading slump, is to re-read books I have loved in the past, also, mood reading. Again, possibly not compatible with ratings/followers/ect so you might have to sit back and wonder if reading or followers are more important here.
Says me - I have virtually no followers, and way too many books. Hnyhoo, I love your channel so just keep doing any bookish thing at all and making videos!

You have very nice hardcover books, well taken care of as it looks, not talking about the special edition etc, regular HC.
So do you read from them aswell or not? And if not why? and what do you read from then? E-book, trade paperback?

Do you expect "Cujo" to take you out of a reading slump? You might want to fly by the first 200 pages or so, or else it might get worse.
Don't get me wrong, it is a good book, but some things need to be said about it, and one is that it can get a bit tedious at first.
I would try another one by King instead, if the purpose is that (Salem's Lot, The Dead Zone, The Long Walk or Pet Sematary would be good options)

Cujo is Amazing! If you have ever had pets, it can be poignant, Pet Sematary also hits differently for young people compared to older people who've had children already.
I have re-read Pet Sematary as a 46-year old with a 23-year old daughter, and Pet Sematary was more unnerving as an adult with kids.
. . . but was very sad as I read it as a kid with a cat or dog.

The Arbonne pea protein powder is much better. I drink it every day. My two preferred flavors are vanilla and strawberry. You’re stuck with your protein powder though. Add cocoa powder and a banana. It should help. Sorry, dude.

One book, that I know is completely out of your comfort zone as its hard sci fi and very technical, that fills the realistic of humans changing as the times do and the aliens truly being alien and not human like is The Remerbance of Earth Past Trilogy by Cixin Liu. Not saying that you should read it, but the complaints you made here, that book definelty doesnt have those issues, but its probably not for you as it is very technical.
