@@TRRehab Question: You put the zest soap bars through the top of the stakes that your beans grew on. What if it rains?! Then you’d get soap all in your beans and ruin them!

I didn't weigh yield per plant. However, I did weigh for the total months of late July to November. "5 months total". From the 16 plants I got just above 3 pounds after shelling. I planted 12 inches apart which was far too much wasted space. 4 inches apart would seem to be ideal and I would do taller stakes as the plants average height was about 7 feet tall. 55 degrees and above seem to be most productive and also picking them when they turn white seemed to be the most productive as opposed to letting them dry out on the vine. Going to seed on the vine seems to complete the cycle and the plant with stop producing as much. Thanks for the question because you just gave me what I needed to finish my follow up video. lol. I'll just use my reply to to.
Can you just buy navy beans from the store and plant those? Do you put them in water? I mean I’m having a hard time understanding exactly how to plan it. My plan is just put it in some water and see if it’s sprouted and then seed it, but I mean, seems like nobody wants us to know how to do this.
I started from a store bought NB, and yes I soaked overnight to cook. I threw the bad looking NB in my little cup compost and bam they sprouted I then planted them outside in the garden they are growing nicely

Spring and summer as with most in the legume family. My plants seem to slow or stop production under 55 degrees on average. I’ll be doing an update video. Picking them when they turn white as apposed to allowing them to dry out on the vine seems to be more productive. Please subscribe if you have not.
I would definitely say spring to fall. They slow growth in cooler weather. At maturity they will get over 6 ft tall during the summer. I reseeded in august with great germination. They started producing too soon when they were less than 12 inches then the cool weather seem to slow the growth even more. Definitely warm weather.

Can’t be 100% sure but if you are over watering when the pods are dry they will rot. Now is the time your plants should be thriving. They don’t like anything under 60 degrees. I did 16 plants this year but next spring I will be doing at minimum 32 plants. I’m building an arching trellis for my sweet peas for the fall and will use it in the spring for the navy beans. @@BuryMeInTheGarden it’s all new to me. Actually my first year gardening. I figure it out as I go. If I’m doing it I may as well record it. Short term goal is to replace all vegetables on our evening meals with something from the garden. “Done” Sweet potatoes so far are the most productive because we eat the leaves like spinach. Planting spinach for fall as I harvest the rest of my sweet potatoes no more leaves. 4 new beds in this week. Now figuring out what I want in them. Post some videos or pics as you go. Have you ever grown purple whole peas because we used to eat them in the cell and I don’t see much about it
I can't say that I have grown purple whole peas. I'm going to see what I can find on them. I now have a gardening channel that I am sure you will enjoy. I would love for you to stop by. ua-cam.com/channels/Wx3--XU1cWHtZMEGGgl3hA.html
Are they summer or winter plant? I make fresh navy bean pies so I would love to have them from my own garden.
Spring and summer as with most in the legume family. My plants seem to slow or stop production under 55 degrees on average. I’ll be doing an update video. Picking them when they turn white as apposed to allowing them to dry out on the vine seems to be more productive.
Please subscribe if you have not.

Did they grow better in spring or fall? Cold weather crop?
I would definitely say spring to fall. They slow growth in cooler weather. At maturity they will get over 6 ft tall during the summer. I reseeded in august with great germination. They started producing too soon when they were less than 12 inches then the cool weather seem to slow the growth even more. Definitely warm weather.
@@TRRehab thank you! I will start inside around 3/15
What month did you plant them
As soon as the temps start hitting the 80's in string. Thank you. When you have a minute stop by my gardening channel. ua-cam.com/users/shortsyuR21S9IT08
Just out of curiosity....has anyone eat the green bean before it turns to shuck.
You absolutely can. I have not because I’m actually trying to see if I can eliminate buying any vegetables for the dinner table which means I need to store them for winter. I now have a dedicated gardening channel and just passed 500 within 5 months. All new gardening videos there. Thank you for taking time out of your day to watch. I’m feeling pretty darn good 😊.

Navy beans are also called Great northern bean may get more result researching if you use that name instead but overall looked good dude
‼️NAVY beans ARE NOT THE SAME as Great Northern Beans
How many pounds can i get from 5000 plant ??
Wow! 5,000…. I would have to go back and watch the update video to know how much I think 48 plants gave me. I now have a gardening channel. I would love for you to stop by. ua-cam.com/video/m4wIM60Dkac/v-deo.htmlsi=fFk9JS2wm1I3TMMZ
I'm trying them this year. Are the navy beans climbers or bush?
They are definitely climbers. Up to 6 plus feet tall. When you have a minute stop by my gardening channel. It's only a few months in the making but I have a follow up video on the navy beans there. Thanks

Hi, I left my navy beans a little longer on the vine. I picked them today and broke one by accident. The beans were black. Do you have an idea why?
Can’t be 100% sure but if you are over watering when the pods are dry they will rot. Now is the time your plants should be thriving. They don’t like anything under 60 degrees. I’m just planting mine this week. I hope that helps a bit.
I now have a dedicated gardening channel. Please visit me there. I have a follow up navy bean video there and I will be documenting this years navy bean growing.

The beans look like regular dried black beans. I'm confused lol
@@PDingenen65 That's true. I am growing black beans and they look just like green beans. It's when the dry out is when they take on their character.

It is because the beans you planted were from hybrid plants. I do not know where you got your beans from but you should not buy them there anymore.
Is Navy beans a pole or bush plant ?
I purchased the seeds from Sprouts organic grocery store and they grew as a bush bean. Stop by my gardening channel when you have a minute. ua-cam.com/users/shortshdxjP3W9IVQ?feature=share

Me tooo ant is worrying my beans
You mean deer in your garden?
Yes deer…. Took the tops off most my navy beans and sweet potatoes. I believe the ivory springs soap is working.
I'll be subscriber #478! Thanks for the video. I moved my family to North Carolina recently and am also interested in growing some Navy beans! Looking forward to some tasty baked beans as well!
Hey Jake thanks for the comment and navy beans for me is a must! Not many videos on growing them so I’m recording the progress. Not a lot of maintenance in growing. I did 16 plants this year but next spring I will be doing at minimum 32 plants. I’m building an arching trellis for my sweet peas for the fall and will use it in the spring for the navy beans. I’m learning as I go and enjoying every minute. Anything I can help with please feel free to ask and thanks for subscribing.
@@TRRehab That is exactly how I found your channel. Hardly any videos on growing navy beans. My assumption is that they are similar to growing other pole beans, but who knows, maybe there are some secrets to uncover :-)
I may still a few of your ideas. 😂
@@TRRehab yeah I hear you! It's all very new to me as well. We moved from Arizona and didn't really have an opportunity to garden much there due to the climate. In NC it's very different. We decided we were just going to plant things into the ground and see what grew well. Turns out it all grew very well. Here is an unlisted video tour my wife and youngest daughter did of our garden in may. We are considering doing some raised garden beds in the near future. ua-cam.com/video/WO1gctuaMuA/v-deo.html
