For the amount of money it takes, especially with the new buildings system making it harder to just accumulate bonuses to gold, I'd say the trade off is pretty reasonable..
@@jossebrodeur6033 Except, no, you are completely wrong. While it does take big amounts of gold, you either forget, or purposefully ignore one thing. Money is easier to make now. The new buildings they added are much better than before, and you can have more of them, even faster if you start in 1066. And even if you start in 867, you will be limited in your building slots, therefore, you won't build, therefore, you will stack more gold.
Im happy they gave you early acess to the dlc, you deserve man , your content is always great, im not to happy that tall got slower but people complain the game is to easy all the time so i think make sense .....
Too easy? Literally everyone I know can't even make it like 50 years before they get destroyed xD The average Paradox player that actually plays their games a lot is already above the curve as it takes more of a special, patient mindset to actually get good
There is a thing about tournaments, where you can cheese visiting one extra location at the end of the tournament. When it get's to declaring the final winner for the current contest ('you are waiting for the ceremony to begin') you pause the game, then click to wrap up the message / window. And then while you are pasued, you are officially still in the 'contest' phase, but you are no longer forced into the contest window. So you see the temple, artisans, village, etc. Gives you one additional visit, to try and get a nice bonus. Be that extra relaxation, an extra chance for artifacts / artifact upgrades, recruitment, gaining stats / piety. Also, as many people have said already, try to become friends with your steward as that boosts the progress speed of their 'increase development' task. You can do it even at feasts without having perks for befriending. Just check the guestlist to make sure they participate and then you can choose to attempt to befriend them as a goal for the activity.
As long as diplomacy keeps being as easy as it is there’s no playstyle that won’t be piss easy (except maybe a no allies playstyle). No matter how tall or short you can always find a few big dog allies to basically make you unconquerable and then do whatever you want
If you ally with an AI that's stronger than you they should try to conquer you later. Like they should react to the new opportunity you present. Especially if you ally with them by "marrying off" (children born into the other house) your family member. Because historically that's what happened. If a smaller nation sought an alliance with a larger one, they were opening themselves up to invasion down the line
Yes but short can be far more powerful than tall because you aren't wasting money on wars and have built up your domains and you don't have to appease your vassals, let alone waste money on further civil wars. And vassals only give you levies which is useless anyways compared to men at arms.
You can, and then they dissolve the alliance in a year the first time you refuse to join one of their dozen or so wars. Or your sister is unfaithful, or the big dogs just SUCK at war. I had several just hang around my army not really fighting, just sieging for a few months, then reshuffle.
one of the best addition is destroy artifacts. i prayed for that. when you play a lot of time and hoard hundreds of banners goblets and hides it's just overloading.
Honestly I think this will make the game more fun for me. I always play tall (or at least make my capital and nearby counties tall) and when I start getting my buildings and buffing my men-at-arms, the strength difference between me and my neighbors starts to feel like I've already "won" by the time I'm ~200 years in. If it takes research to make that happen, I think it will make for much more interesting games.
I created several challenges and restrictions to become tedious in 150 so easy, I used Varangian casus beli to migrate or take the worst titles of my empire and give the empire to someone to play against what I created and have another 200 to 250 years of fun
@@henricmoreno5876 for me, roleplay. Roleplay is the way this game is meant to be played imo. It's so much more fun to act according to your characters traits and just go with it even though it might be detrimental to the overall progress of the realm/dynasty.
It would have been cool if you took Kingdom of Frisia and made it an Asatru kingdom again. The Frisians were proto vikings before Charlemagne annexed and converted them. They also appeared in the sagas and Beowulf, so I'm pretty partial to them :)
Honestly, after hearing about how the developers changed the building system with the slots... this actually makes the playthrough, in my opinion, even more immersive. Basically, a realm is bound by the knowledge of the people. Obviously there's a lot of nuance to this concept as far as limits to infrastructure and economic development goes in the medieval world. But one way to emulate this is by giving a representative symbol of these limits in what is able to be developed as far as quantity is concerned. By the time of the Renaissance, infrastructure and overall prosperity had reached its height, and this is reflected by increasing the building slots. Tldr: from the perspective of immersion and game balance, I agree with the building slot nerfs.
Ok this video helped change my mind about what this dlc is i may consider paying for it next month depending on how the free part of it feels. I thought it was mostly just an event thint which it is, but i didnt realize youd get so much prestige and stuff and traits so i think it might actually feel pretty good in the game. More than a mod. Hopefully
Such a cool update! I already love all the details and finally more replaybility for this game, I've been getting sick of doing same things again and again. I hate how research takes ages though so this is going to be a pain haha.
You should try a tall coptics playthrough, I tried it recently before the update and I think it's really underrated. They have lots of floodplains, special buildings and good holy site bonuses
@@deusvult6920 Well, shallow is a simply wrong description, as the DLC is explicitly enriching a lot of the current systems already present in the game, such as through the new traveling mechanic.
If one line of code can make me experience the game differently that's great. Way better than other games installing Gigas of updates just for the game to feel the same
Just played it, and I really like it. Only downside is if you’re a small independent realm cuz you don’t get to participate as much. Love the refresh though and new activities systems
The stationing troops mechanic is really a good idea for both gameplay mechanics and immersion, the more that I think about it. It adds a bit of strategy to the men-at-arms. The vassal positions are great too, I think. It means there’s a lot less cheesing vassal relationships to the max and artificially keeping realms really stable for decades.
@@elvangulley3210 And I suppose so is sitting at 5 speed for years while waiting for something to happen? In any case it's a lot more realistic to how the medieval period was

Is my game wrecked or something?
Hey Zieley random question here that bothers me. Did you notice any changes to the default cultural traditions of cultures like french? I always found it odd for french to not have at least castle keepers at game start.
tall is fun sometimes but its not the healthiest gameplay imo. you can play tall with the same strat anywhere on the map and it starts to feel generic. I am excited for the update.
Playing either tall or wide is boring af. Just play according to your charecters personality, it makes playing every charecter much more fun and different
Tip, don't blindly revoke. If changes are low, raise your entire army to vessel's capital. Then revoke. If war declared, just puashe the game, march your march to nearby region, and immediately move back to vessel's capital. Also applicable to RPing, as in reality, no ruler would revoke on thin paper, while rebellions is sure.
Im a bit late to the party but, i would argue that, you can play taller than ever these days! More building slots and some very powerful new additions such as wind and water mills!

Most playthroughs i get to the point where every character gets living legend easily and have more money than my amount of building slots and domain limit could ever allow me to spend, but it would be helpful to know that i can spend one to get the other if I have excess of one but need the other.
Imagine not doing the 'I have a bigger army so I win playstyle
I created several challenges and restrictions to become tedious in 150 so easy, I used Varangian casus beli to migrate or take the worst titles of my empire and give the empire to someone to play against what I created and have another 200 to 250 years of fun
@@goose93 What are your strategies for keeping the game fun?
exactly. this doesn't "kill" tall games, this finally makes them interesting.
@@henricmoreno5876 for me, roleplay. Roleplay is the way this game is meant to be played imo. It's so much more fun to act according to your characters traits and just go with it even though it might be detrimental to the overall progress of the realm/dynasty.
If special buildings are still as powerful as they used to be they are going to be extra op, since everything else has been nerfed
It would have been cool if you took Kingdom of Frisia and made it an Asatru kingdom again. The Frisians were proto vikings before Charlemagne annexed and converted them. They also appeared in the sagas and Beowulf, so I'm pretty partial to them :)
The roleplay potential of this update and DLC is insane.
Hopefully
What? It's all free
Such a cool update! I already love all the details and finally more replaybility for this game, I've been getting sick of doing same things again and again. I hate how research takes ages though so this is going to be a pain haha.
Yeah so cool having to pay out half the price of a AAA game for some small DLC that should have been in the empty base game...
I love how in depth your videos are.
You should try a tall coptics playthrough, I tried it recently before the update and I think it's really underrated. They have lots of floodplains, special buildings and good holy site bonuses
Great content - a review from a point of view I prefer.
Hope you will give a more detailed look on the new activities in a foreseeable future!
Drinking game: watch all your favorite CK3 creators early access tours and tournaments videos and drink everyone they say “free update” good luck
I love CKIII going more into the roleplaying aspect
Except this is such a shallow DLC it's basically an event pack
I want to see some kind of trade system (not anything like Vicky 3 though)
@@deusvult6920 Well, shallow is a simply wrong description, as the DLC is explicitly enriching a lot of the current systems already present in the game, such as through the new traveling mechanic.
If one line of code can make me experience the game differently that's great. Way better than other games installing Gigas of updates just for the game to feel the same
Paradox: removs the amount of default Buildingslots
Me: R2, we need to be going up not, not down!
So what I can conclude from this new DLC is you still can play tall, get some crazy bonuses, but you're slowly building up your realm.
Yea because forced instability is so fun
@@elvangulley3210 And I suppose so is sitting at 5 speed for years while waiting for something to happen? In any case it's a lot more realistic to how the medieval period was
@@andrewreynolds4949 not marrying your daughters and not having gay sex with the pope is realistic to but ita in the game
@@elvangulley3210 I'd prefer it wasn't
@@andrewreynolds4949 and I'd prefer to have my current tall play style but we can't always get what we want
Loved the new system -- better that I expected. I love playing stewardship and culture -- this gives wonderful options
Sickkk 2 video’s right after eachother!! Love you chose the Netherlands to play in🎉🎉 keep it up - me and my friend owen❤
RIP
🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️
Man im still going to play ck3 but them killing early game tall potential like this got me feeling some type of way 😭
bought the bundle via your link, always love your stuff.
I womder if they could add a dynasty leggacy to help keep tall strong
Another great video. Im happy you got early access. You deserve it
I was very worried when the initial announcements came out for this expansion but this looks so good. I cannot wait for Thursday.
By jove! Sponsored by paradox? Congrats man that's awesome!! 🎉🎉
What effect does the building reductions have on tribal?
Out of all of the Paradox DLC that came out recently, this is probably the best expansion even though it's rather expensive. It's crazy how much is in this. Domination was decent though, but in comparison to everything else this is definitely the best DLC they've released in a long time.
This expansion actually seems really cool! Seems to make more counties viable, maybe Iceland could be good now 🤔
Sucks that all of my mods will be broken again, but honestly this looks like it's worth doing a vanilla game for, so I can't wait.
Lastly, definitely sucks that I already bought hte bundle, next time one comes out I'll definitely buy it through you.
Damn, I just planned myself a tall Duke of Burgundy game. With lots of wine, tournaments and glory...
that "remove hard cap on ages" mod you used a few videos before this is looking even juicier now
I like the man at arms buildings changes. It introduces some flavor to cities and makes your army composition a little more dynamic early game. No more building barracks in every city 😂
They said in the dev blogs that there would be new special buildings. I haven't seen any clarification on what the new buildings are
Omg Zieley always gets me. The "denied" when looking for when Zie tries to get a chance to win was actual death to me lmao.
Literally the video I was looking forward to the most since that dev diary dropped
Such a good update. I feel like it makes it more realistic.

According to OED, the etymology is as follows: < medieval or modern Latin _Varangus_ < medieval Greek _Βάραγγος_ (plural _Βάραγγοι_ ), < (through Slavonic languages) Old Norse _Vǽringi_ (plural _Vǽringjar_ ), apparently < _vár_- ( < plural _várar_ ) plighted faith.
Glad you got early access, you deserve it.
Ever since T&T I actually had more fun playing tall than I did before. ALso, thanks to the Lance update you can now use mods and still get achievements. I've been loving T&T with mods that add more buildings.
Used your link to purchase Chapter II. You are my favorite CK3 content creator.
Hey i got a question why didnt you make a hybrid between dutch and norse
Love your videos, keep it up.
The changes are so good. Had to wait to buy the DLC so I started a game very recently after 1.9.1. Everything is great and honestly I’m more motivated than ever to actually play into the super late game.
I'm loving all the new mechanics they're implementing for this update. Oh, congrats on the sponsorship! Make sure to spend all of it on cookies.
Do the stationed units become part of the garisson during sieges?
That’s a good question
Hey if your domain splits and you're chummy with the king you can actually ask him to give you the duchy from your sibling! That's an easy way to consolidate land after inheritance
im kinda into the dutch kingdom play where you take Aachen as Capital and cologne for palace and cathedral and focus rest of holdings on coast to boost growth
I wonder how it affects the Unify Italy decision. If they don't change it, that unlocks the guilds innovation.
I'm excited to see your next build!
I just picked up the dlc... did they give back the extra building holdings? Just started a new game with all DLC's enabled and my capital is allowing for 4 buildings slots plus the duchy building and my other castle holding has 4 building slots right from the get go.
Is my game wrecked or something?
I just realized that Zielys start is an 867 start. I was starting 1066... so that's why
Hey Zieley random question here that bothers me. Did you notice any changes to the default cultural traditions of cultures like french? I always found it odd for french to not have at least castle keepers at game start.
This DLC looks the best so far
1.25 in
Can feel you holding back the tears my friend
tall is fun sometimes but its not the healthiest gameplay imo. you can play tall with the same strat anywhere on the map and it starts to feel generic. I am excited for the update.
Playing either tall or wide is boring af. Just play according to your charecters personality, it makes playing every charecter much more fun and different
Found your channel by accident clicking a video i thought said Civ 3, great channel and despite never hearing of it before ck3 looks fun.
Good video. Wtf happend at 32:26, the background of the character was switching wildly around. :D
Feels like the changes are just going to make fascination bonus rushing even more meta
you can click the circle arrows in acolades to pick what ones they have..
This dlc made me come back to the game, sink a decent amount of time and make me actually roleplay my characters traits, more than just a decent dlc.
Oh yo, that jousting event looked super cool!
Thanks Zieley. This was a great preview.
Now we have a reason to play in 1066
I would love to see you compete w CK3!! As a testament to the tall play style.
Have you played any of the total conversion mods? Game of Thrones is finally out, and the LotR one has elves now.
+12 vassal limit seems like a lot on that brooch lol
New to ck3 and you Get a sub because you are the only channel i found with anything recent do you happen to have an updated guide for tall play?
Which video editor do you use @zieley ?
Wish this video was longer. Hopefully we will get a longer tall game soon
The memes + your tone of voice really caughts me out of guard, every f time xD
48:42 wild Laith and Koifish spotted
Honestly the worst part about playing tall was having nothing to do during peacetime but this DLC goes a long long way to fixing that
yea really enjoying the roleplay of the game so far.
Im a bit late to the party but, i would argue that, you can play taller than ever these days!
More building slots and some very powerful new additions such as wind and water mills!
I love getting notification of his videos!! Love ur content ❤
Now how do the changes effect playing wide?
