  • Decided to setup out of the T3500s and move up to the T3600s here at work.
Just a quick overview of the system as a whole.
Overall I like the new Model.
I made the mistake of ordering the PERC H310 SATA/SAS card. I will annotate as to what of the 6 ports are SATA III and which are SATA II. I believe from quick testing SATA 0 and 1 connections are III.
It seems all the Intel C600 ports are Sata III at least in testing
Love the PSU design. The White plastic around the power oulet glows green when on. Definately like the ease of changing.
This is the Xeon E5-1650 6 core @ 3.2Ghz. Will have 16GB of RAM, and has a 2GB Quadro 4000 card. Primary boot drive will be the new Samsung 840 PRO 256GB SSD.
    Thanks for watching

Yes there are actually 6 cores on the single processor inside the unit. With Hyperthreading you get 12 threads, or the equviliant to 12 CPUS!

Theese are awesome for solid works. 3D rendering of fairly complex assemblies take no time at all.

I'll have to contact my Dell sales Rep. I'm not quite sure why there is no hard drive config that says "no perc" for a 1-2 hard drive configuration. Seems like Dell needs to change those options for those of us who don't want to run RAID. I've tested the 6 SATA ports on the board, and they are all SATA III.

Waiting on the Dell rep. This has stumped them as well :)

This is a 6 core model. They offer up to 8 cores. They all offer hyperthreading, which gives the 6 core, 12 threads, and the 8 core, 16 threads. Under the task manager it would show as 12 CPUS, or 16...

I have upgraded the cpu to e5-2690 in my T3600. Its a 8 core, 16 threads cpu at 2,9ghz across all cores. Paired with gtx980 i have a very cheap and very capable pc...however considering its almost 10 years old...how long will it last? Probably a better idea to go for something newer....
Edit: om my gosh just noticed all of the comments are almost 10 yrs old haha!

The T3600 would be the bees knees, but costs like $3k :) if you want an already boxed built PC, I'd look into the XPS 8500 desktops.. You want to do rendering and video editing, so a higher end GFX card is definately going to pay off. $1000 should get you a basic machine, but patience may be a virture depending on how much you're rendering.

Justin, pick "Integrated Intel controller, SATA 3Gb/s RAID 0/1/5/10 (4 ports)" instead? " It's a typo/config mistake on the website. All ports are SATA III, and has been verified by Dell

This is the exact configuration I plan to buy for video editing. My problem with the T3600 is Dell doesn't offer the Creative Sound Blaster Recon3D 5.1 card option found in the T5600.
How does your setup handle graphic intense programs?

I see what you mean by ordering the PERC H310 by mistake. Its something I don't need either, thanks for the heads up.
When I select the "Integrated Intel controller, SATA 6Gb/s (No RAID) (2 ports)" I get a compatibility issue. Would you do the "Integrated Intel controller, SATA 3Gb/s RAID 0/1/5/10 (4 ports)" instead?

The PSU card is my problem. It only has 2x 8pin connectors, while I need 3. Is there any way to replace the card without having to replace the entire PSU? Looking online I cant find those cards anywhere.

Hi Sir, I have the same server but it came with a 4 core. I wanted to know what is the the card underneath the GPU?

      I believe a SATA/RAID card.

So I don’t need it if I don’t set up a raid, right?

Don't need it if you don't need more ports than what's available on the board.

does the ram upgrade in pairs or 4s? I have 16gb in (2) 8 gb sticks. Can i just get (2) more 8gb to get to 32?

    • @BuffRANGE

You can always upgrade it usually 1 stick at a time, but then you may only end up running it in single channel mode, vs dual (adding two sticks).
