@videorevealed , Collin thank you, thank you, this is precisely the information I needed to know. HP and windows fan girl, now switching to Dell. He's using a (Intel Xeon W-1270P, 16 MB Cache, 8 Core, 3.8 GHz to 5.1 GHz, DDR4 2666) or an (Intel Xeon W-1290P, 20 MB Cache, 10 Core, 3.7 GHz to 5.3 GHz - DDR4 2666) with this Dell Precision 3640 Workstation. These processors now sell used now on Ebay, December 2024 for under $200 USD. The Dell 3640 is a great option for a computer with DDR4 spare parts or custom builds with low budget. I personally would buy the "Xeon W-1290P" CPU used from your choice of sellers for around $180 USD...cause the benchmark of the "Xeon W-1290P" is higher than the "Xeon W-1270P" when the CPU needs to boost. Listed the stats above on the first line. Thx, Kirk B.
When my last system was getting long in the tooth, I looked at what it would cost to replace it and discovered I could build my own with better specs at a lower cost. Yes it is a bit of work researching components and making sure they'll work together and than getting it from various vendors, but in the end I have a system custom built for my needs. Prior to this I was all about letting Dell or HP do all the work. Just wondering if you gave it any consideration.
I'm a pro still photographer and am just getting into video. The 5000 is about $1200 more than the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000. Given that I've only been able to do software encoding on all of my previous videos, would the 4000 yield me a significant increase in work flow processing speed? This business of watching my computer (a Dell precision 3640 tower) struggle while I'm editing and having to wait, sometimes hours to see if the changes I made actually worked or not, and if they didn't, make minor tweaks and re-do it and wait again is just totally for the birds. If I need to invest the extra money, I guess I'll tighten the belt and do it, but if the 4000 will do okay, I'll do that. Thanks so much for your help!!
It's impossible to know what the difference will be without knowledge of your media formats, effects used, export formats and much more. GPU acceleration is not available for everything, so it really depends on what you're using. H.264 export, for example, is accelerated so you'd definitely see a difference with a more powerful GPU. But really only if you're exporting something long enough to see a difference. If it's under 30 seconds, maybe not. Also, you should be able to see real-time playback of what you're doing without having to render. Unless you're using many unaccelerated effects and/or creating massive 8k Timelines. Here's a tutorial on rendering and whether you need it or not: ua-cam.com/video/2JFZlB8MNc0/v-deo.html
@@VideoRevealed Thank you for responding. I'm exclusively using Adobe Premiere, though I intend to also learn how to use After Effects. Essentially I was asking you because your video pretty much convinced me that what you're doing is pretty much what I'm doing. I just wondered if the $1000 price difference between the two cards would be extremely noticeable. Thanks again, so much for your help! I will check out your other video and I've subscribed to your very informative channel.
For speed, you don't benefit from more SSDs, it's just much easier to organize if you have multiple dedicated drives. I like having lots of places to store stuff as I'm constantly running out of space.
I would like to see a comparison video running some real-world tests on both systems, since they are basically the same specs in different form factors: playback performance, rendering, and export in Premiere Pro, and Viewport performance, RAM preview, and export in After Effects.
It’s not that type of channel. There are tech YT sites that look at this type of thing. He just happens to have these assets. Tech Notice, it is a good channel for this type of thing.
@@stevegeorge7773 If enough people request it he will do it. I thought it was a good opportunity for this kind of tests, since his laptop is basically the mobile version of his desktop workstation. P.S. I love Tech Notice, it is my go to channel for custom-built creator workstations.
Actually, I had a whole Puget Bench tutorial planned but I couldn't get it to run on Premiere Pro. I wanted to run it from my 2TB SSD but it didn't like that. My plan was to show complete benchmarks for the systems. I'll look at using something else.
That's right George, I find that stuff a little dry. Also, I think too many people put too much importance on speeds and feeds and in a blind test, they'd probably be happy with a system that wasn't 100% the fastest.
I just started using an open source file manager called Files. It's absolutely GORGEOUS. If you want folders to open automatically in column view, you have to enable that in the settings. If you follow the development, there are quite a few developers working hard to make it better. github.com/files-community/Files/releases
I've always found audio to be less of a performance drain due to the smaller files. It's a powerful computer for audio. I use Steinberg Cubase with multiple plug-ins from Waves, Slate, and virtual instruments and it performs like a champ.
You have a way better system than I have. I moved on from Premier Pro to Hitfilm Express. Unlike CS4, it relies more on the graphics card, and I have an older one that, even though it is a model spec'd for the base card, the Nvidia GeForce 610 (600 series), the base spec when I joined Hitfilm in August. They did an update and still call this the base card, though technically, it should be upped to at least the 700 series or better. The similar spec for the AMD cards too, BTW. Not ideal, but I can edit, fairly alright with that card, and a Dell Optiplex SFF 9020 PC with a 4th gen Core i5 4570 processor with 16G of RAM, 1080 footage. My goal this year is to replace the entire thing with something newer. Again, the 4th gen Core anything, though in my estimation, forget the Core i3 processors, minimum of the Core i5 and up. Agree, Dell can make a great computer, though I had some issues with the first gen Studio XPS 435T PC when it was introduced in 2009, and got it set up for editing video. It had an ATI/AMD graphics card that ultimately crapped out in 2015 - hence the 610 I have now as I transferred that to the Dell I use now. I now edit using proxies, thanks to the latest update from HitFilm (2021.2). A video will get uploaded today, and this makes I think 3 this week to my channel. Anyway, all good, and have been thinking of moving to Ryzen, but do like the current models from Dell too, but graphics cards now cost a lot and many are in short supply, but plan on updating the entire thing this coming year.
Yes and I really like it a lot. So much cleaner and nice to work with. One thing that is a HUGE update is the position of open windows when switching inputs. I have two 4k monitors and when I used to switch the inputs to a second computer, the window positions would fly all other to a different display. Windows 11 remember where they were and keeps the there. File Explorer is nice to look at but it still lacks column view. For that I use an open source application called Files and it's gorgeous. You have to turn on the single click to open folders in the preferences but now I have a file manager with columns. Check it out here: github.com/files-community/Files/releases
@@hotshoestudio They probably both work pretty similarly when it comes to premiere. The main place a Quatro would be better would probably be 3D modeling rendering. If there's any benefit in premiere, it would probably be the Quatro that would be better, but like I said, there's probably not much difference if so, since most of what Premiere does is fairly simple on the GPU, to the point where even the most complicated thing, video encoding, is usually limited by the hard drive speed rather than the GPU once the GPU is good enough. Both of these GPUs are great when it comes to Premiere, so if gaming isn't a concern I'd just go with whichever one you can find easier, since new GPUs can be hard to find these days.

rxt quatro 5000 vs rxt3080 for adobe? what's the better option?
I've never tested the 3080 so I don't really know. There are plenty of benchmark sites out there that do test these 2 cards together.
If you do any gaming on your machine, go with the 3080, as Quatro cards are good at gpu accelerated rendering stuff, but not as good for gaming.
