    UPDATE: Ours was delivered this morning. Based on this review, I was expecting it to be inexpensive but decent quality gear. I was in for a mild shock when we opened the box. Not in a bad way, mind. What they sent has at least one improvement over what you got in your box, and while this review gives a very good indication of the better than average quality of this car, in person it's better than we expected.
    The big thing is, it came with a different transmitter, and I quite like it. Labeled as an MT-305 (I'm not familiar with it, but it feels nice and has good features) and it came with its own instructions, it's VERY different from what the included instructions for the previous radio show. Uses only 4 AA batteries, and it's a true 3 channel. The receiver is also 3 channel. They plugged the lights into channel 3, but there's a VCC port that those could be plugged into instead if one needed the third channel for something. I'm already looking for something to do with the third channel. Just because. It's only a two position switch, so a winch may not be an option, but I'll think of something.
    The transmitter has separate end point/expo adjustments for the throttle, which is interesting. It's shown as "CH2 EPA" on the transmitter, but it appears to adjust both end point and expo. There's two knobs, one labeled Lo and one labeled Hi, the Lo knob is for reverse (or for a brake on Nitro powered cars with no reverse, which is what the instructions refer to for this function), the Hi knob is for forward. And basically, what they do is reduce both sensitivity and max signal on the throttle trigger for forward and reverse. The further down you turn the knob, the more you have to move the trigger before you get response (and what seems to be a measure of expo), and the less total response you get at max travel. It's actually really cool. For our daughter, we've cranked reverse all the way down as slow as it will go, and forward is cranked down to an appreciable fraction of maximum. Makes it infinitely more controllable for her learning to drive it, and as a nice bonus, makes it a much more manageable crawler for me. All in all, this transmitter is really cool.
    The tires are nice, the wheels are decent, and as you noted, it's got a genuine WP-1625. Despite its small size, that little 25T motor delivers quite a turn of speed, and the drag brake is EXCELLENT. When you let go of the trigger, this thing STOPS. There are a lot of plastic parts, but they seem to be fairly well made and sturdy enough, well reinforced where they should be. As you noted,, the front axle inner knuckles are metal and well made. Suspension is surprisingly good for how inexpensive this model is. This really is a good little car.
    It looks like it's using the exact same mounting system for the front and rear bumpers as Redcat Gen8 V2, and the light mounts in the bumpers appear to be the same, too.
    We're running it on a 3S LiPo and it has plenty of power, and doesn't seem to be getting hot at all, in any of the parts. I put a 2250 3S through it today, and it ran really well. As noted, the steering servo is a little slow and as expected not super strong, but it is just about perfect for our 3 year old daughter. She loves it already. It's the dark green Land Rover body, which seems well made and fairly durable, too.
    This is an impressive little car. I'm glad we got it. Thanks for the recommendation! We like it enough that we may have to get another. This thing is just too cool, and the price just can't be beat.

      I'm so glad it was a bunch of changes for the better. Great package already, made better. Radio sounds pretty good.

    I got the FTX version of these as my second crawler after a TRX4 Defender. It now has a Proline Sumo (Suzuki SJ) body, Gmade sliders, 3d printed skid for 540 motor/gearbox, Proline 4.19 km3 tyres, HW1080 and the TRX4 stock servo with a different steering link for more angle. Honestly, it's a really fun small truck.

    • @RCTNT

      Wow! That sounds like it's fully kitted out! Most impressive!! The FTX one is the same as the RGT/HSP ones with different branding, is that the case? Interesting either way, yours sounds great! How have the diffs stood up? Still good?

    I was intrigued by this little unambitious crawler after seeing it in Aliexpress and Banggood for a few months, and after watching the review I can say I'm genuinely impressed! I am totally on board with it, fit a Tamiya Wild Jimny body that I had waiting for a chassis (although the FJ body isn't half bad, even if it isn't licensed) and I'd have a different taste of crawling, for a short trip, for instance.
    I was in awe of how well it coped with most of the things you threw at it. We're a bit spoilt as we've seen a lot of very capable crawlers on your channel, and I was expecting it to be decimated by the problems and course... but my eyebrows kept going higher and higher as the vid progressed...
    I really appreciated a bit of a different kind of truck, yet the same in-depth, very detailed review from you. I'm all for variety in life, and of course in what I drive. Some of these small, cheaper rigs are genuinely a good buy only for the different approach they require to their driving. And the fact that the value on this one is on point makes it really interesting... now I'm off to search for it online... My wallet surely doesn't like me watching this channel!! lol

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 роки тому

      Lol awesome. I had a similar internal reaction, I really thought something would break during the test!
      Good idea on the body.

      @@RCTNT I was actually watching that very link for the 13600 V2. Careful, as your "v3" is a very different model. It's also a nice cheap crawler that doesn't get a bad review from all who test it, but it's on a different price bracket and size, iirc. The V3 gets to a point that I have to shift my attention in two directions, either the FMS Jimny (ultra scale, nearly cero capabilities, but oh-so-scale), or MST's CFX with the current Jimny body (which looks great and is very capable, with a lot of optional parts and spares).
      But I digress... 130€ is not bad at all (shame it's only the Defender body... Landys are nowhere to be seen, and Broncos, although cool, not 70€ more cool). Let's see if Black Friday drops the price a bit and I miight just go for the Defender... if in the end I can't find a good deal on the RTR RC4WD '87 Hilux Xtra Cab that I yearn for...

    I have bought RGT 136100v3 (lemon Jimny version) in late May this year for 180$ with shipping from the EU warehouse. It was my first crawler and 2nd RC car in general. From what I saw in your video this is a night and day design upgrade in favor of v3. It has great Flysky radio (FS-G4P) with DIP switches to modify settings on the fly like Drag Brake. ESC is made by Hobbywing and it is integrated with quite a descent light controller. It looks quite to scale, to be honest. No body posts, hinge design. But the cons is the drivetrain. The gearbox has plastic gears and no metal upgrades are available. Front CVA/universal driveshafts in axels are another weak spot. Since the purchase, it was out of use waiting for parts for 3 months. I have changed the skidplate to a 3D printed one to put a different gearbox and 540 motor. To sum up, it is a delicate platform with quite expensive spare parts and no most wanted upgrades available. It is capable of light trail runs not rock crawling. I have lately built a TRX-4 Sport KIT just because I was tired of all those RGT breakouts. 180$ for RGT was a hot deal but today I would save that money and buy TRX-4 Sport KIT instead.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 роки тому +1

      Sorry you went through it with breakages. That's always frustrating.
      It sounds like rgt compromised on the drive train in v3 in favour of making it pretty - that's a Jeep move irl!
      The V2 drive train is tough - I broke nothing and drove through 3 batteries all on difficult technical rock problems. That's an achievement. I've burned out trx4 servos and broken RC4WD drive shafts on the same problems in that kind of time.
      Still, stepping up to a big name crawler will generally see you through with less issues. Sorry you had to do it though with the v3, as it certainly looks the part!

When the wheels bind it causes the axles to chew out the diff because where the axles slot into the gear case it’s made of plastic. $13aud for the replacement part or can pay like $24aud for the upgraded part

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 роки тому +3

      If you're only buying one, it'd be between the vanquish and the trx4 for me. These two are going to be the most flexible in use between trail, rock crawling and general use. The vanquish has the best electronics potentially, in that its a kit and you select this yourself. Do it right first time and it'll last. The TRX4 has okay electronics but they're not great.
      The traxxas has broad after-market support. The vanquish won't need it.
      Your list of trucks is really good. Any of them will be great but for flexibility, durability and parts, it's gotta be between the above rigs IMO. That said, any of them will be fine vehicles and my individual reviews and head to head videos give you more nuance between each.

      @@mephandr6479 the BOM TC is a performer, but with its cast diff gears and no availability of higher quality steel cut ones, I'm not sure I'd recommend it as the one truck to own.
      It's in a different class to the TRX4 and again to the Vanquish. For the price, it's excellent, but if you're considering these other two, the BOM TC isn't worth it (my opinion! Others may differ).
      You want a do-it-all machine, Cross RC EMO AT4/JT4 or Traxxas TRX4 make sense.
      You want a rock crawling machine with some trail ability, look at the VS4-10 or Capra (or Gatekeeper if more rock racing bias and on tighter budget).
      Honestly, there's no perfect truck. The TRX-6 comes close, I guess, but that's a different class of vehicle again!

      @@lxm21208 ah that's tough! Though from memory the receiver is separate to the ESC, which is a 25A hobbywing unit. Should be reliable - wonder what went bad on yours? Hope you work it out!

      @@TravelerChicks I put a few links in the description, as usual. As well as banggood and Amazon, you may find it on eBay or local/hobby stores which sell RGT. May also be sold under HSP brand, or FTX, possibly others. You'll need to search locally to your area.

      Gotta drive it with care, true. This is a cheapie - but it did perform well and I have not broken anything yet, even with hard driving. I'll do some more with it in the next month or two and we'll see where we end up with it.
