- The modern-day United States of America is massive, but its journey to this sheer size is unique among all. It all began in 1609 with 13 British colonies near the east coast. The settlers declared independence from Britain, forming their own country, and the floodgates were opened for westward expansion. At one point, everything up to what is now Minnesota was just called Virginia.
In 1804, the United States Purchased Hyge-sized Louisiana from France, and this doubled the size of the country. The purchase didn't even have a properly defined western border; it ended arbitrarily at the Rocky Mountains.
In 1819, the United States expanded to the Pacific for the first time, sharing the Oregon Territory with the British. Two years later, Florida was given up to the United States from Spain in a treaty that included a promise to relinquish any claims to Texas. During the 1840s, both Texas and Alta California were annexed from Mexico.
After some quick border adjustments and the emergence of new states, the contiguous USA was formed. Finally, in 1867, the United States Purchased Alaska from Russia for almost 7.2 million dollars.

These days free countries should not be being invaded. Surely modern day people's have learnt from the past wars and their terrible costs.
But not, maniacs still think they can murder and 'take' what lands they want and that is wrong. Russia, China and others should not be trying to take over countries just because they say they used to be part of their country.
