Got this recommended to me by yt despite not playing Dota. It looked well made so i still watched it and the concepts still apply to League of Legends. And MAN I really like the line about how there should only be 4 bad players on your team while there's potential for 5 on the enemy team. "You're not a griefer" really goes over some people's heads too. Running it down and being a nuisance is self gratifying torment that "punishes" those around you while continuing the cycle to make the game miserable for others, they are owed this one troll match because of all the trolls they get! Its even worse for players constantly looking for the off-chance they have 4 of the better players or crying about 1/5th of the team and losing winnable games. Keep up the good work and good luck with the content!
Thanks for watching! I've seen this mentality in every team game I've ever played, which definitely includes League lol. People griefing because X teammates "deserves" it, I can't stand those!!!
i think an important aspect of playing solo ranked regarding mmr as a 3 to 5 position is recognizing as early as possible who are your strong teammates and who are the weaker ones. You can use all your skills to set up a great game for a core that already has showed signs of unreliability and still have him throw the game. Enabling the right player in your team can make all the difference in the end.
The end got me. Can we get a video where you just whisper dota2 tips for 30 minutes like pull timing and creep blocking and camp blocking and support mechanics. Call it ASMMR
Next, you can address the good old "You should play core instead if you want to climb" and its evolution "You should play core until your teammates stop s*cking" xD
It’s a valid point, but if you are a good player you can impact the game in many ways. Great support players can easily win games from warding and laning alone, players want to get better but make the same mistakes every game and then just blame their team without doing any research or an introspection. I used to be 3k for years until I started watching pro games and watching my own replays at least a couple times a week as well as learning from videos on YT. Even Jenkins can give some good tips that are viable in low mmr, bottom line is Dota is an extremely complex game and if you really want to be good you won’t get there from just playing alot unless you have extreme raw talent
Great content! You've helped me focus a little better on what needs to be improved instead of hyper focusing in the match problems. I gotta add to the discussion about "Blaming teammates" that... No, they're not the problem honestly, given enough games we will leave our rank if we're better than our current one - but, as someone who has struggled to like playing this game... It's so hard to even try to play ranked. The matches that I lose to teammates everyone is farming, no one has initiative and no one is pushing, which makes me wanna play pos 3 but I want to get better at and prefer pos 1 so it's a tough pill to swallow; when these aren't the cases, honestly I choke big time because I want people not to scream at me when they pick horrible fights, I shouldn't go, but I go anyways so they don't bother me. This is a convoluted way of saying that: I hate the grind, but I know I'll love the game if I gather courage to get a rank and leave the trench - how would you (or anyone in comments) deal with performance anxiety? I struggle big time coming from a place where I got high ranks in all games I played in my teenage years and now I hyper focus on my mistakes and even get to the point of shaking. Maybe getting a coach to follow me in this road for a few weeks could be good... Having someone to talk during that much pressure you put in yourself is very relieving.
11:05, best part people love to put the blame in anyone else, but it's just coping mechanism, most of them are insecure and don't trust themselves enough, amplified that by more negativity from the same insecure people who also love to blame, hence, no improvement, everyone running in circles, all demotivated, all unable to win.
Coming from someone trying to reach ancient atm. Im Archon 5 atm coming from Herald to Guardian. Guardian to Crusader and now Crusader to Archon. What I found so far is that yes teammates can control how good or bad the game goes, but if you can find heroes you enjoy, that you understand and are meta it can help you greatly in increasing your chances of winning. For example I love undying and atm he is so op in the meta besides that always try and use your good heroes to counter the team if the option is available.
5:08 i feel like the answer has to be trying to manipulate the odds to be the best they can be. Since you can't choose who is on your team I suppose you'd have to do something like focus on helping your teammates have good games/not have bad games and the opposite for the enemy team. Probably comes down to communication? Ok if your mid laner is bad make sure say something if you think they're about to get ganked. Have a good attitude and try to be positive. And then I guess trying to recognize how you can ruin an enemy's game which would probably be picking bully heroes and working towards making the enemy team frustrated. That last one depends on your role I suppose but comes down to capitalizing on their mistakes, playing aggressive where ever you can, and killing enemies repeatedly so they feel useless/helpless.
For me the secret is to play 5 man with people you know within your rank. That way you cant have smurfs, there are no griefers and you wont blame them if they make mistakes. In the end, it is still your own gameplay that will be the last consideration for you to win.

So I have 2 accounts I play on, my main account where I used to be 4,5k MMR and that's now 1k MMR. Because of that drop I made a new one that got calibrated at 4,2k MMR, I was able to get 5,4k MMR on that account. I play with the same heroes, focus and motivation on both accounts, most of the time position 3 or 4. On my old 1k MMR account I have a win percentage of 38% in my last 100 games, on my new 5,4k MMR account I have a win rate of 72%. What would be the reason that I gain MMR on the new account and lose MMR on my old one?
The second I stop focusing on my teammates I win way more! Sometimes I turn off my chat and just rely on the pretty extensive ping system. From 500 mmr to 3k no chat in ranked :)
My comment on how to gain mmr: you just have to play lots of games consistently at your highest skill possible, without tilting, and without getting bored and trying new shit. Unless you uncover a hidden strategy that beats the meta or your true mmr is so vastly ahead of your opponents, that is the only way. Also using the double-down rank option from the battle pass is pretty good if you feel like you have an easy win.
Fuck the opinions, by watching only one of your videos already gained the confidence i needed to climb. Since then, i climbed in less than a month from 1.5 to 2.1 keeping small objectives in mind ( focusing only in playing 2 games a day and winning 30 mmr per week). Whenever i start my games i accept the possible outcomes and that actually made me not to care at all if i lose or win because in the end all that you lost you can win it again. If i have a rough start, i just endure and wait for the other team to make the same mistakes ever, if i have a good start, i'll rush bkb and keep in mind small objectives that help the game's progress towards victory, automatically your team will play with you if you make the calls and once in a while they will insult you and make you loose the game, but its not the common thing at all. Only playing troll and terrorblade, with 70% and 57% wr each respectively already reached 2k which always was my roof impossible to break since i started out dota. Man youre the best.
majority, i agree with the concept. actually there is a way to manage those "uncontrolable" factors... you have to play party match. then you basically eliminate the uncontrolable factors (hence, it is less rewarding, just +20). nowdays, it is pretty impossible to solo carry the game i would say. there is no such thing as "good enemy" anyway in our medal bracket honestly... enemy are most likely play as good as you are, its just that if your personal winrate above 50%, matches naturally would be heavier for you (because most likely you are team up with people who are less than 50% winrate, and guess what, they are playing core)
I genuinely don't understand why so many people immediately blame someone else, apart from it being a lot easier to blame others than to change oneself. It's kinda amusing up to a point. Unfortunately society is like this as well.
It is demoralizing as fuck when you get 3 games in a row where your mid player gets significantly outclassed by the enemy mid and you lose because of it. All you can do is focus on reducing your mistakes and get better. Or switch to main mid 😅🤣
I cannot tell how serious any of this was supposed to be but I've had a longer break from Dota and I feel like my true MMR is far below my current rank. That's equally painfull: Do I have to intentionally lose now until I reach my true rank? Sadly, those matchmaking factors still come into play there and more often than not I barely have any impact and get carried into even higher ranks solely by my team mates.
Yeah that definitely sucks and I really feel DOTA would benefit from an MMR decay system. I would recommend unranked games until you feel you're ready to get back into ranked. You might still lose games, but I find unranked tends to be more chill as everyone is often doing whacky stuff. It makes it easier for me anyways to warm back up into playing
No point coming up with reasoned conclusions to "prove" this to people. If you can't step outside and realize that your teammates aren't what is causing you to lose, no amount of "logic" will either.
Leaving a comment for the 5min mark question I think if our true mmr is legend and we r in archon, it means that everyone should suffer the similar problems and are thus one or two brackets lower than what they re supposed to be. Might explain some enemy of same bracket seems like Smurf when they play their best hero in the best case scenario But if that's true, perhaps we are all truly at where we belong. You got potential and u can't deal with the factors that is inhibiting the gains of mmr hence you are where you belong. When 3k plays in 1k, they might be able to tell a hell lot of things the 1k players are not doing well. Then the same should be applicable for every bracket, instead of flaming each other for being noob at the same bracket, I think we are all noob like sheet in the eyes of pros So the problem is we ourselves don't know how to play 1 or 2k mmr higher than our current knowledge. Perhaps we should watch more high level doto and think why high mmr players make those moves and apply it in our games. Then we just try to play 1k mmr higher than the rest of the 9 players in the game and hope for the best. Personally this is how I got from archon to legend. Just think how would those players who are higher mmr than me play the same game? I totally agree with zquixotix that at the end of the day, the teammates don't matter, coz if u are just going to keep playing a game that makes you bitter and frustrated, perhaps something is in need of you to take action to address outside the game of dota But at the end of the day, what do I know lmao, every server at every bracket and different time of the day or week have drastically different people playing
I watched your videos a while ago and I reached my point where I;m kinda stuck at Ancient...I wish I could get a coach session with you or at least a review of one of my games...
That right, how could anyone possibly be better at the game than someone else? You are always the best player in the match, every player is the best player in the match simultaneously in their own little universe. If someone else is "better" they have to be cheating or smurfing clearly. On a more serious note though the way you gain MMR in the archon to legend scenario is you become an ancient player, then those "herald one baddies" you get and "smurfs" you play against won't matter.
This video is pretty much just screaming to be a news headline lol. “Local scrub spends entire life to rig game in their favor, remained the same MMR anyways and then immediately fired”
Some games you just can't win. You can't possibly expect to 'actually' 1v5 (despite what people like to think, even if you look like you're 1v5ing on paper, your team was enabling you to stay alive and secure those kills). And that's the problem with MOBAs, and ranking. At the end of the day, game knowledge and skill isn't even half the equation. You need to be a psychologist ontop of all of it, to rally your team and convince them to make less stupid decisions and keep their mental in check alongside your own. That's the real Crux to all of this. You look at almost any high rank player, they are all nauseatingly cheery and optimistic and well spoken. No matter what your actual in game skill level is, you'll never climb unless you have the mental to not only keep yourself level, but manipulate your team as well.
Quix there’s a element missing on your theory, I guarantee you that you watch me playing and you will never guess my ranked being way lower than what you would guess
I've spent too much time arguing with people who believe that Valve enforces some kind of force 50% winrate on players. I personally don't believe it's true. Their "evidence" is barely that. Usually it's something like "notcing a pattern" (which I hopefully shouldn't have to tell anyone who's taken a statistics course in their life is a very flawed approach) or "some random article where some Valve employee said something that kinda looked like that!" My favorite part about it all is that this could probably be proven of disproven very easily by some code gods out there. You can use DOTA buff to analyse the matches of basically every dota player. Someone with some serious coding skill and knowledge of statistics could probably create a bot to anaylze matches for this. Things to look out for are: 1. Win/loss streaks overwhelmingly stopping after a certain point. 2. Teammate/enemy MMR being significantly lower/higher in win streak/loss streak breaking games 3. Teammate MMR decreasing, enemy MMR increasing, per win. Or Temmate MMR increasing, enemy MMR decreasing, per loss. 4. Likelyhood of regularly playing players to hover around a range of MMR for a long while (would probably have to be at least a year). One of these points alone probably won't prove anything. Making something like this would actually look really nice on ones resume.
While this is correct, YOU don't get to see the enemy that's tilted and ready to start chain feeding, but you do see this guy on your team. You need to be a master psychologist or a good liar to convince him to keep playing. If you suspect a guy like that on the enemy team, you need to coordinate several ganks on him in a row, which can also be pretty hard.
I feel like this won't convince people to stop blaming teammates and tbh, if they don't, they deserve the rank they got, if not for being bad, because it's extremely toxic to point others' flaws.
I really don't get the obsession with MMR. If it goes down, you get easier opponents. If it goes up you get more challenging games. And sure, maybe you aren't at your true rank, so what? Life isn't fair and recognition really isn't either. Just have fun. Line go up is the basest form of fun.
This is very mature way to look at things, next thing to point out is that "it's just a game". The issue is that a lot of people, no matter their age does not have the proper attitude towards the game (or life in general).
@@dtibvgz8441 yes. Though I don't like the "it's just a game" as it seems be an excuse to slack off. Compete with all you can each time, otherwise play something else. There are plenty of chill games. Bring your A game!
@@sunbro6998 Indeed, some use it as a form of excuse, but a lot of players also tend to treat every single game of DotA like their life's goal and are extremely toxic, spewing their most vile words towards their allies if they miss click even a single time. And if they do a game-losing mistake 'ops, it's normal to do a mistake' and if pointed out (by already triggered allies) - 'well it is because of you we are here' is their most common response. Shifting blame and pointing fingers is everyday occurrence in MOBA games.
@@sunbro6998 Gameplay wise, there are a lot of issues, both strategical and tactical. Even in Immortal ranks there is a lack of understanding and knowledge, lower ranks naturally have even more issues. But it's O.K. - it's just a game ;) Only professionals don't have the excuse for doing such mistakes too often.
Don't need MMR game to be blamed. Still learning, still not have 100h to play ranked. But still hate noob haters... There are blame and blame. You can say softly to me that I feed too much. Instead of "stop feed NOOB", you can just say "retreat, stay behind, don't die". When I am blamed for my noobiness, I just don't to want to improve myself during the game. Why trying? Your channel is poluted with noob. Never understand. It feels like a people reproduce what they perhaps endure during their first hours of game...
In reality the skill difference between archon and low divine is completely negligible based on a lot of the things you went through. Bottom line is if you’re a high skill player you should be dominating these games regardless of what hero you play, how your teammates play etc etc. if you’re archon and been archon for a while I hate to break the news but there’s no secret to mmr, you’re just not that good at Dota. If you go from archon to legend it literally makes no difference, going from 3k archon to 5k divine is literally minimal considering the distance from low immortal 5400 ish to highest immortal 12000+ is 3x as much mmr difference. If you think you’re good at 5k and have some ego over 3k players just put that in context, most 3k players could EASILY become 5k and it has nothing to do with matchmaking, you are both just as bad at Dota (relatively). Hope that makes sense :) edit: don’t let your rank define you, if you want to take ranked seriously and grind mmr it’s okay but just keep in mind that you are a casual if you do not have at least a 70% win rate below immortal spamming your best heroes. Forced 50 is a real thing but only if you are playing In the bracket you belong in, if you don’t see your rank shift at all that means you have no impact on the game and these factors are too much for you to get past, making you think you’re in the trench. Reality check can be hard but it’s a game, it’s meant to be played for fun.

That's awesome to hear, congrats on the MMR!
@@ZQuixotix thanks!!
majority, i agree with the concept. actually there is a way to manage those "uncontrolable" factors... you have to play party match. then you basically eliminate the uncontrolable factors (hence, it is less rewarding, just +20).
nowdays, it is pretty impossible to solo carry the game i would say. there is no such thing as "good enemy" anyway in our medal bracket honestly... enemy are most likely play as good as you are, its just that if your personal winrate above 50%, matches naturally would be heavier for you (because most likely you are team up with people who are less than 50% winrate, and guess what, they are playing core)
I genuinely don't understand why so many people immediately blame someone else, apart from it being a lot easier to blame others than to change oneself. It's kinda amusing up to a point. Unfortunately society is like this as well.
It is now my dream to become an Iron Talon rank player.
Internal vs external locus of control.
Love the attitude
The attitude is half of the requirements to become good at anything, including DotA.
It's the NOTIFICATIONS' fault!
It is demoralizing as fuck when you get 3 games in a row where your mid player gets significantly outclassed by the enemy mid and you lose because of it. All you can do is focus on reducing your mistakes and get better. Or switch to main mid 😅🤣
no shit in SEA server. A simple " can you ward, please" will make them throw the game
Just play pub games till you have gotten some of the muscle memory back homie 🫡
Yeah that definitely sucks and I really feel DOTA would benefit from an MMR decay system. I would recommend unranked games until you feel you're ready to get back into ranked. You might still lose games, but I find unranked tends to be more chill as everyone is often doing whacky stuff. It makes it easier for me anyways to warm back up into playing
No point coming up with reasoned conclusions to "prove" this to people. If you can't step outside and realize that your teammates aren't what is causing you to lose, no amount of "logic" will either.
I feel like this analogy can also be applied to my lack of success on youtube. Zquixtoix, I'm banning your channel
Not if I ban you first
i take only good not trash if it not just losing n eed a give up button at 0 min before horn
Leaving a comment for the 5min mark question
I think if our true mmr is legend and we r in archon, it means that everyone should suffer the similar problems and are thus one or two brackets lower than what they re supposed to be. Might explain some enemy of same bracket seems like Smurf when they play their best hero in the best case scenario
But if that's true, perhaps we are all truly at where we belong. You got potential and u can't deal with the factors that is inhibiting the gains of mmr hence you are where you belong.
When 3k plays in 1k, they might be able to tell a hell lot of things the 1k players are not doing well. Then the same should be applicable for every bracket, instead of flaming each other for being noob at the same bracket, I think we are all noob like sheet in the eyes of pros
So the problem is we ourselves don't know how to play 1 or 2k mmr higher than our current knowledge.
I totally agree with zquixotix that at the end of the day, the teammates don't matter, coz if u are just going to keep playing a game that makes you bitter and frustrated, perhaps something is in need of you to take action to address outside the game of dota
But at the end of the day, what do I know lmao, every server at every bracket and different time of the day or week have drastically different people playing
Good advice !
I've spent too much time arguing with people who believe that Valve enforces some kind of force 50% winrate on players. I personally don't believe it's true. Their "evidence" is barely that. Usually it's something like "notcing a pattern" (which I hopefully shouldn't have to tell anyone who's taken a statistics course in their life is a very flawed approach) or "some random article where some Valve employee said something that kinda looked like that!"
My favorite part about it all is that this could probably be proven of disproven very easily by some code gods out there. You can use DOTA buff to analyse the matches of basically every dota player. Someone with some serious coding skill and knowledge of statistics could probably create a bot to anaylze matches for this. Things to look out for are:
1. Win/loss streaks overwhelmingly stopping after a certain point.
2. Teammate/enemy MMR being significantly lower/higher in win streak/loss streak breaking games
Heck ye my man love your content.
A lot of this advice applies to real life
ZQuix believes in my ability to become an Immortal :')
I do occasionally get to see it because the enemy team starts complaining about it in all chat.
I feel like this won't convince people to stop blaming teammates and tbh, if they don't, they deserve the rank they got, if not for being bad, because it's extremely toxic to point others' flaws.
Your insights are helpful. Thank you from sea dog
Tbh, best way to gain mmr is to start winning your lanes,
this apply only to solo ranked games and not grp ranked games thogh i guess i just gotta drop until im on par with the russian smurf ;)
i let team carried me instead
so blame me as you want i just lazy
Dota just proves how disgusting humans are when u give them enough freedom to do what they want
Love this.
i got to the rank i ever wanted and never played ranked again... profit i guess? :D
yeah Zach, youtube is tagging this as League of Legends. This great content needs to get out to the correct masses!
My takeaway: I am an imortal player trapped in a herald account! 😂😂😂😂😂
Great video Z!
BRUH. The algorithm is listing your video to be about League of Legends under it. LMAO . Screenshot time.
Play heroes which have independent game impact
Dota but STEM
@@dtibvgz8441 the most common issue I see is how do we start the fight. Second being a glass cannon team vs a tanky team.
@@sunbro6998 Gameplay wise, there are a lot of issues, both strategical and tactical. Even in Immortal ranks there is a lack of understanding and knowledge, lower ranks naturally have even more issues. But it's O.K. - it's just a game ;)
Only professionals don't have the excuse for doing such mistakes too often.
