Norway is not the center of the world. It's a tiny part of Europe and just a spot on the global map. How much do YOU know about USA? Where is Wyoming? What's the biggest city in Michigan? What is the color of the flag of Texas? Did you even know that each state has it's own flag?

Jonas Dalbakk if u ask a person from any country in the world about the US the will know something. thats because the US has been the a superpower and the biggest player on the world scene since WW2. Norway is not. should Americans know every country in the world and their capital? do you know that? without looking it up can u say every nation in Asia or Africa? cause that what your asking Americans to do. you can replace Norwegians with the name of any country in the world to see how wrong you are.

    • @cbk1233
      @cbk1233 9 років тому +1

I'm a fish first of all do you mean states as in country or states as in american state the first one is easy its 3 states the second is hard since there are over 50 states in the US. And if you are talking state capital it gets worse. state capital of New York is Albany not New York. second America is not an European state Norway is. so that compering the twos knowledge of Europe is stupid. You should compare Americas knowledge of Europe too Norwegian knowledge of Asia or Africa. Also im Norwegian so i know that what you are saying is not true.

We discovered USA 500 years before the british.
We settled in North America and had crops growing and trading with the Indians 500 years before the british.
We own North America. We, as in, We the Vikings from The Nordics.
No one is to get confused with this comment - There is no mention of Norwegians or Icelanders. I only mentioned WE the Vikings from the Nordics. (We as a whole including all the Nordic Viking folk).

Your questions answered by a Norwegian. Have a trip.
Question 1: What do you think of when I say Norway?
Rich, not only on money but nature and sweet people.
Question 2: Do you know where Norway is?
Northern part of Europe. Cold all day every day, except in the summer, then it's less cold.
Question 3: What language do they speak in Norway?
Well our main language is Norwegian but we have dialect and we can be taught English, Spanish, French and German.
Also we understand Swedish and Danish based on how close the way of speaking is.
Question 4: What is the capital of Norway?
It begin with an O and ends with an O. Oslo. But actually in many years back it was Trondheim.
Question 5: What is the colors of the Norwegian flag?
It's shaped like a cross, since our country is build on christianity and faith. But the colors are white, red and blue.
Question 6: What do you know about Norway?
(I think it is funny no one knew our National day)
17th of May is our national day, we celebrate Christmas 24th not 25th, we also have a folk dress called Bunad, we have something in Norwegian called a Konfirmasjon, which means our teens at the age of 14 -15 (based on when their birthday is) put their faith in god. You can either do it like Christians and take it in church or not. Your choice. Also you can if wanted not go through the Konfirmasjon at all. My family is Christians and we all have done it, except my little brother whom is 10 years of old.
The Bunad could be worn 17th of May, at Christmas and Konfirmasjon.
We eat, moose, reindeer, whale and fish. In fact we built our country based on the fresh fish. Still fish is our main priority. We send it out to anyone and if you wondered why we eat moose, reindeer or whale. They are all animals.
Have you ever tasted a moose sausage? It's delicious with a cup of warm chocolate on a snowy day.
I know a lot cause hey I am a Norwegian. Oh also the Bunad, based where you are from in Norway, such as Northern Norway you have a Nordlandsbunad, if south you have a southern bunad.
Easy and people get to know where you are from just by looking at your folk dress. Hope you had a trip through my
Canada is the one known for bears, no here in Norway we have penguins. Joke intended.

    • @TheXin89

You got some facts wrong there mate ;) "Konfirmasjon" is not about putting your faith in God. but it is more about a celebration and aknowledgement of a child starting to become an adult, even though you don't "come of age" (sorry, didn't find any better word), before you are 18. Konfirmasjon is, as you said, usually done in one of two ways. First is the christian way, which also contains a personal renewal of your baptism promises that your parents (or you) have done earlier in your life. The second one is has nothing to do with God, and is just a celebration of becoming an adult.
Also, one of the most commonly wrong beliefs is that we have polar bears in the norwegian mainland (We don't). Although there is polar bears on the island "Jan Mayem", which belongs to Norway.
Another fact about the flag: The pattern of the flag is not only due to christianity, but the fact that we were in a union with Denmark (then Sweden), for over a hundred years. Therefore, when we became independent, we made a flag which looked very much like theirs.
There are three different spoken languages, first we have "nynorsk" and "bokmål", which both are quite similar and can almost be seen upon as two different accents. The third one is the one spoken by the native Norwegians, which is "Sami". The Sami's lives mainly in the northern parts of Norway, and there are also Sami's in Sweden and Finland.
I'm writing waaay more than intended, but hopefully someone finds it interesting :)

I'm an American and if one wants to learn of other countries and cultures, you have to take it upon yourself to delve into these things. In America it is your own responsibility to learn, but most Americans are just trying to make a living day to day. Many of us have to work 40+ hours just to make ends meet. I think it's not going to be the end of the world if Americans don't know specific things about Norway. I love learning about different cultures and where specifically they are located on the map. There is beauty in all cultures and when humans start to realize this instead of trashing each other with insults of how stupid we are, (face it we have all been ignorant of something at any given point in our lives) then and only then will we grow and maybe become a peaceful human race.

For heavens sakes..we are only 5 million people here, and we certainly are not the centre of the world. If you are not able to name the capitol of....say...Chad without extensive googling, you really do not have a case when you attack the skills in geography displayed in this clip.

Agreed. Minnesota, Wisconsin (although more German but a lot of Scandinavians as well) and upper Michigan is where a lot of the immigrants settled from Norway. It's where my great grandfather settled after he left Lillesand and of course, he settled where a Norwegian community was as he didn't speak english much if any.

Why is America stupid? there is stupid people in every country. By the way who wins the most noble prices in physics, chemistry and medicine? it is either Americans or people working at American Universities. And besides 8 out of the top 10 universities in the world is Americans. So do not label all of America as stupid please.

Kjelly Lund The reason why so many universities in the world top are english speaking ones is that one of the ranking criteria is how much the scientists of a particular university are cited worldwide. And it follows logically that universities that work in English and dont have to additionally translate their work into English, get more citations than, for example, I dont know, a Hebrew university in Israel (since it sudies a field of not so much public interest, and not so much in English( But it doesnt make it any worse of a university. It was just an example. The world top of universities is very much Anglo-American based. It is like saying that the best films are in America because they get all the Oscars (never mind that it is the prize given by the American film academy and is no basis for grading films of other countries) It is a little bit of the same with the university tops.
It is also about what they sudy. many national universities study small /local) languages and folklore, and the results of those studies will rarely get international interest (and citations), and they are not meant to. many universities work for their own country mainly, and therefore are not in the top. universities of big countries have the luxury to choose according to their own interest because their culture and language does not need so much protection and preservation.
Also, US has a huge population. So it is not very hard to have a few dozen good universities. But if a country of only one million has a university in the top 5% in the world (or has a university at all, for that matter), is so a much bigger achievement.
and also, it is one thing to have a very uducated elite. But the thing about countries like Norway is that it provides very good (free) education for everyone, icluding the children of recent immigrants etc. According to Pisa tests (that measure education in Middle schools), Finland ranks second in the world, Norway comes somewhere soon after and the US and Britain not even in top 20. It is a concious choice of a country: to breed really top elite, or to provide everyone with normally good education. Same with medicine: there may be worlds top whatever hospitals in the US, but they only provide services for the priviliged few (usually those who can pay for it). In Scandinavia, also Norway, even if you are the most useless drunk and criminal who has never paid taxes (not to mention social security), you will get very good medical care, and for free. The same as everyone else. Or if you are a tourist and something happens to you and you have no insurance and no money. You will get the proper help anyway, and they will even pay for your trip home after hospital.
I would rather live in a country that provides good quality services and security for all its members and even illegal members, than in a country taht has a few very top ..whatever, but most people do not have access to it anyway.
and do not kid yourselt thinking that it is only the Us where science and research is going on. You may know more about American science and success since you live there, thats normal. But dont make the mistake of thinking thats all there is.. Norway has one of the highest living standards in the world (also Sweden, Finland and Iceland). That cannot happen without science based approach, educated and healthy people, secure environment etc. It is one thing to be only a top university, but another thing to be a world top country. Think about it. of all the 193 countries, to have one of the highest living standards, it is not a MINOR thing.
And by the way, i am not Norwegian, or Scandinavian. But I would not have passed fourth grade without knowing the world map, or High School without knowing the main division of language groups. I also trust that had the same questions been asked in one of those top universities, most people would have known where norway is.

Kjelly Lund The point is that US isn't perfect, neither is Norway. I just hate people who blindly think that the US is best in everything. When it comes to this video, I believe that they showed the footage of those who didn't know anything about Norway (except the guy in the car) even though the majority knew. But saying that Norway is a small insignificant country is stupid. It is very small in population but not small when comes to what it does and how it presents it self internationally. Norway is a big ally of the US and US is quite dependent on the oil and gas from Norway.

    • @kjellhl1975
      @kjellhl1975 10 років тому

usa already have many allies world wide, and England is the country which is considered as the one with the special relation. And remember many of US States has more people and is bigger than Norway. And this dont only go for the USA only. Not many in the UK which is just across you has so much knowledge about Norway either. To know about Norway you got to live there, or have a special interest which makes it natural to know about Norway.

1 gallon is approxamitly 3.78541178 liters so lets say 4 liters.
Norwegian gasprices are around 14-15 Norwegian kroner (NOK) for 1 liter.
In American this would be 2.58 us dollars per liter.
If we were to have your low gasprices we would pay around: 1 dollar or 6 NOK for a liter.
