Amazing animals. I love how excited they are to pull. Proof positive they LOVE their job. Anyone who knows horses can read it in their body language, they are ready to go. Amazing video of some incredible animals. So glad to know that we aren't the only fans of draft pulls. =)
I have zero experience with horses and even I can clearly see these guys are so pumped and ready to pull. So amazing how big and powerful they are and yet they can be so happy and excited. If only we learn to be this way about life.
Didn't see any Clydes in there. (They're rarely used for heavy pulling, being relatively light-framed by draft standards.) Brabants, Percherons, and Belgians... Absolutely beautiful slow-mo video of the horses at full-power.
they put alot into their work! ive never seen draft horses look like dogs going up a hill!! its amazing these guys can pull that much! they have loads of muscles too boot! great looking teams!
The Dark Brown and black leggings is the most beautiful gorgeous Belgium horses I ever seen. They are Magnificent creatures and strong into pulling. 1:41 The horse it started to dance. Isn't she/ he cute!
Oh, just a heads up... even though this is super old... lol. There aren't any clydesdales in this video, they aren't used in pulling contests, they're too tall and light, they're used as hitch horses. The roan team is a pair of imported Brabants, the bay/black teams are Percherons, and the blonde team is a pair of Belgians. Cool video!
looks like they are having a great time doing it. like a dog wanting to please his owner, there just doing what years of breading has thought them to do. I think I saw one smile after a good pull even. would rather see them pulling something necessary on a farm though.
+Joe Aguirre it was not a smile it was his jaw hurting from the bits lol, not to mention how many horses suffer a heart attack from exahustion on these competitions
+Dunja Cetkovic these horses rarely ever suffer from anything like that, they usually die from old age most of the time after they are retired. you have to think they are like athletes and are in top physical condition.
+Joe Aguirre Anyone who has spent time with draught horses will tell you that they love it, in the same way that a sheepdog loves working sheep. It's in their blood and it is not cruel at all. Cruelty is leaving them in a paddock with no work to do.
Hey ppl that know bout horses understand drafts are breed for pulling and farm work. Or logging where tractors cant go. Itsnot cruel its what there breed. Thats like saying kentucky derby is curel cuz they run the horses certain laps. They are breed for that.
No wheels, but over a ton. notice how low the rear of the horse drops to pull hard. Notice no whips, just commands..there is a willingness of the animal to do its work.
@halllee1000 No, it puts more strain on their shoulders and back than their legs. They only pull this much for a few seconds and only at these competitions. When they aren't doing this they are generally used for recreation and sometimes are still used in fields or the logging industry.
@shadowmistyful Because they're working hard and focusing on listening to the driver....When you're lifting a heavy object or running as fast as you can, you don't have a relaxed expression on your face, do you?
I'm willing to bet you have zero experience with horses...These guys have been selectively bred for hundreds of years specifically to pull large loads, not to mention you've got a team of two 2,000+ lb creatures pulling the load. It doesn't "hurt" them.
It's Belgian and a Clydesdale wouldn't be found anywhere near a horse pull, they're fairies and are just for shows. Perhaps you mean Percheron or Shire
@discusdoc: huh? pulling is NOT cruelty! So, you should get a clue! My belgian loves to pull!! He gets very enthusiastic and excited...much more than he does when we ride!
@Dixiesweetiemomma they are excited because back at the ranch they get nailed with a cattle prod if they don't lean into the training sled, ex pulling horses are worthless.
+john appleseed also my problem with this isnt the competition as much as it is the extra weight which could mess with bone structure and injure muscles
Lop these types of horses were bred to pull when you see a race horse do you go "man can't you seem then struggling to run?" Lol race horses race draft horses pull because that's what they live for.
Olivia Becker draft horses are bred for pulling these weights. The only problem they have is at the start, because they have to get their footing correct.
Enough already with the ego driven owners and their selfish need to display and compete for who has the biggest and the best. This is a living breathing animal, which was not intended to be made into a spectacle and be abused. They may be well cared for but they are absolutely miserable, and their legs are becoming deformed due to the excessive weights they are forced to pull. There is nothing wrong with using horses on the farm, or in pulling; however, it's the excessive abuse I find offensive. Soon they will be walking in an unnatural position and statistically they have shorter lives. Like german shepherds they develop hip displasia, and most wind up with some degree of lameness, and very painful arthritis. STOP THE MADNESS. Same goes for racehorses that are started way too young, doped up, and made to run for money. MORE MORE MORE until it breaks, right? Then discard and get another. Pathetic
+littlefarmerette123 where do you see these horses walking in unnatural position? also where do you get your stats from? most of these horses live for along time way after they are retired. and what do you mean their legs are deformed?
Again--work is not torture. German Shepherds' dysplasia is caused by inbreeding, not work. They are well treated. How long does each competition last? People and their horses used to work hard all day long; this is nothing. In my area the handlers are not even allowed to shake the reins.
What a chest! such power. It's amazing how gentle they can be if needed to.
Their chests are huge! Such beasts! I love watching them pull. Drafts are the cutest!

I love how polite these teams are! They wait for the cue to start pulling instead of taking off like rockets before they're even hitched.
Beautiful footage, gorgeous horses.
Didn't see any Clydes in there. (They're rarely used for heavy pulling, being relatively light-framed by draft standards.) Brabants, Percherons, and Belgians...

Look at their precise moves and their watchful ears when walking and those muscles when pulling! Sheer power! Great! Really beautyfull animals!

Cool video!
this was my favorite part of the Fair where I grew up
pure horse-power AND grace...
@KamatzKatan Those were Brabant Belgians - they are shorter and stockier than the regular version and they come in a wider variety of colors.
looks like they are having a great time doing it. like a dog wanting to please his owner, there just doing what years of breading has thought them to do. I think I saw one smile after a good pull even. would rather see them pulling something necessary on a farm though.

Why do some of you cry about the horses struggling? It's no different than us weightlifting. They pull for less time than it takes to do a few squats.
Hey ppl that know bout horses understand drafts are breed for pulling and farm work. Or logging where tractors cant go. Itsnot cruel its what there breed. Thats like saying kentucky derby is curel cuz they run the horses certain laps. They are breed for that.
Silent Bryan b ilbhl
you can really tell they love to do it!
No wheels, but over a ton. notice how low the rear of the horse drops to pull hard. Notice no whips, just commands..there is a willingness of the animal to do its work.
The roans, I believe, are Bretons (a French breed). I could be wrong though.
Great Run...!!

I love the salt block weights.
@KamatzKatan I agree. Maybe Ardennes?
WOW, such power from such a genial animal.
Does anyone know what they are using to add weight to the sleigh? It looks like salt blocks.
They're pulling salt blocks. We compete here against theses guys. They're great competitors and these horses love to pull.
@Shasta991 Thank you, I can't believe how many people call it animal cruelty when it's clearly not.
The only difficulty the horses seem to have is the start, after that they seem to glide.
Now that's 🐎 power!!!!!!!!!!!
Now thats horse power! lol :)
@Mickey7476 Yes they are the french breed draft.
@shadowmistyful

Awesome! x
beatiful
Those are most definatly salt blocks !!
@KamatzKatan I think their Shires. lol
Who here from tictok👉🏼
Co oni tak te biedne konie mecza
That fair ride made me sick just watching it...
Didn't see any Clydesdale's. Lol
@Dixiesweetiemomma they are excited because back at the ranch they get nailed with a cattle prod if they don't lean into the training sled, ex pulling horses are worthless.
these horses are foaming at the mouth that's not normal
mettre les hommes a la place des chevaux!!!!!!!chabbis59
I think this is horrible! You could see them struggling to pull this weight! They obviously were having trouble!
If they didn't want to pull that sled they wouldn't
+john appleseed they are obviously forced into it
+john appleseed also my problem with this isnt the competition as much as it is the extra weight which could mess with bone structure and injure muscles

They are built to pull weight. better than them rotting in a pasture some where.

Being raised with Belgians I have never had them say make me pull heavy weights and strain muscles. Get a clue, pulling is animal cruelty!!!
