I just bought one of these last weekend (6/29/24). I pulled it out of the box, unfolded the handle, put in the Honda oil, put in 3 week old non-ethanol gas, made sure the fuel valve was on, and tried to start it. Nothing. I checked to make sure the plug wire was on tight. Nothing. I pulled the plug out to see if I could see a spark while pulling the cord, nope. I brought it back to where I bought it and they are looking it over now. A buddy of mine bought a VYA from the same store the same day, and his worked flawlessly. I'm really disappointed, but this is usually what happens to me when I buy something big. At least my box had the green dot so I know the cam issue was repaired. Note: Mowers Direct no longer sells mowers. They are now Power Equipment Direct.
@@appleztooranges Before to saying something wrong about the honda mower defect camshaft began now why they made recall the honda gvcx new version of the engine only put inside the camshaft in plastic pvc and with the heat gets deformed and broken entire engine body
Sounds like you got a pickle. I've had this same mower and used it commercially for over 3 years now and it still starts first pull every single time. Only thing I've done to it was adjust the governor for a little extra engine speed in case I'm cutting thicker grass but I mean no real issues with it. This is the second time I've bought this mower too, retired the first one after having it for a few years too, never had an issue besides the wax needing to be replaced which was like $10
I have the one you have and a 2010 version with the 190 engine. Haven’t had any real issues with the new one. The new one does seem to use a lot more gas than the older one and 10 extra cc’s shouldn’t make it use that much more. Only an occasional hiccup with starting the newer one but I’m sure that will change as the auto choke wears out. Didn’t take mine in for the recall as I haven’t had the decompressor issue and I don’t want anyone messing in there if it’s not necessary.
I don’t blame you. After I picked it up from my dealer, the wheel was on backwards share the ratchet driver goes for gear and would not engage. I had to remove it and fix it myself. These morons at the dealerships don’t seem to know anything about
Trying to decide if I want to get the HRX217K6VKAD ($799 currently 100 off at HD $699 final price no blade stop or hydrostatic) or the HRX217K6HYAD ($999 currently 20% off 799 with Hydrostatic and bladestop) I currently just use a Toro Self pace side discharge 100% of the time was wanting to get a new mower for long term. Wife looking at me funny because only complaint with my current mower is the wheels are a little wobbly and a little rust but otherwise fine. Never used a honda before should I just get the base model for $525 with steel deck instead of the fancy bells and whistles?
Thanks for the post! I didn't know HD had a sale and almost paid full price at a dealer. I have the base Honda HRN216 for the past few years and it had been working great. I'm purchasing the HRX217HYA as my new primary. Honda engines have been working flawlessly for me. Highly recommend.
Bro you nitpick way too much. All your complaints are very minor. I’d definitely avoid a buyer like yourself if I was a Honda distributor. It’s a Honda, be grateful it still runs like new and starts first pull. Buy any other brand and lucky if it even starts after 2 years of use.

Waiting a minute after turning the fuel on makes my Honda start first pull every time. I think the carb just needs to fully fill with fuel.
