  • Is Cork the real Capital of Ireland? I take to the streets to ask the people of Cork themselves!
It is widely agreed amongst Cork people, that Cork is the true Capital of Ireland. Do Cork people really believe that though? I went to County Cork, Ireland to find out.
What do you think though? Is Cork the real capital of Ireland? Comment below and let me know!
(P.S: this video was filmed before the madness happened with the world)

    Cork had to be.
Imagine Ireland is a bottle of whiskey.
If you turn the bottle upside down, the cork
    Keeps it all inside.
Remove the cork and Ireland dumps itself out so nothing is left but a hollow shell.

Your video was educational too in that I've learned straight from Cork residents' mouths that the true way to pronounce 'Cork' sounds more like 'Cark'. Even as a foreigner (who loves Irish tea) I know that every sachet of Barry's is blended in Cork whereas Lyons is made in England for the Irish market, and I was almost expecting a Barry's partisan to come out and represent! :P

The only person who was able to give a solid reason why Cork feels more like the true capital was the one American girl. She said exactly what I was saying before she came on, which is that Cork feels more Irish than Dublin does. All big, western cities have much the same feel to them. Dublin does feel Irish, of course, but it has lost a bit of its soul to its size. Cork is such a lovely, friendly, walkable city. Oh, and Murphy's is superior to Guinness, so.

Cork drove out the British and achieved independence. Today Dublin make political decisions for Cork which Cork people hate, hence why this "Republic of Cork/Cork is the capital" thing came about. Cork people feel they have the right to make their own decisions. For example local politicians in Cork tried to change the names of a few streets in Cork because they had British names like Victoria cross (Queen Victoria was Queen during the Irish famine), but of course Dublin would not allow it because they didn't want to be seen as anti British so we can keep our neighbors happy

Sadly it's still the most influential city in Ireland and all of the main institutions and media are based in Dublin 4. I grew up my entire life going down to West Cork, to Skibbereen and even past that to goleen. I was born and raised in Dallas Texas too an Irish mother and a Peruvian father, but I will tell you one thing. I've been to Dublin, I've been to Galway, I've been at temporary, I've been to Meath. There is nothing in this world that I would trade in my entire life for West Cork. Come on the rebels, come on the boys in Red, I will always love Cork till the day I die!!!

@S.K 123 Dublin was the last place to fall wasn't it 🤔 the Union Jack still flew over Dublin when the uprising happened and weather you like it or not most of Dublin didn't want to leave the Union because of the work the port had at time they depended on the Brits for income 🤔 I don't doubt you know your history or that you speak Irish but sure half of the west of Ireland speak Irish fair play and Wicklow played it's part just we were in the diece of Dublin but I'm sure you knew that 👍👍
