Unbeyond Anthologies are pleased to welcome back Kounter for their immense debut EP “Ego Death”.
Melding dense orchestral elements with an oppressively dark atmosphere and cataclysmic heaviness, The “Ego Death” EP marks the heaviest release on the label to date. After a tense intro track that sets the stage, opener “Krönen” kicks things off with paralyzing darkness and vast atmospheres, followed up by the melancholic tearout basher “Mechanophobia”. Things are taken in a more somber direction with the next track “Violence”, which masterfully contrasts its core piano melody with dramatic, chugging machine gun basses.
“Hypnosis” swaps the atmosphere for something much more ethereal, with whispers chattering through entrancing deep house drops. The energy hits a fever pitch with the mournful “Abraxas”, featuring the most intense drops of the EP. The release is closed out with the title track, which caps things off with unmatched drama and tension, featuring drops that truly exemplify the apocalyptic tone.
“The old me left almost two years ago. Some think I went missing; others have completely forgotten about me. But the day my ego dies is the day I come back, to be forever remembered in the meaningless nothing that is the universe.” said Kounter. “‘Ego Death’ is my debut EP. Combining bone-chilling orchestral arrangements with neck-breaking basses. This is a project I’ve been working on for the better part of 2 years, refining and curating my new sound. 7 tracks of nothing but ideas brought from the weirdest corners of my mind.”
