10 Bike Hacks that will Blow Your Mind! 🚴🏼 Sorta

- Okay so I got a little carried away with the title. Really this is just the third edition of 10 bike hacks, and some of them are pretty weird. From how to film, to how to eat, here are some fun tricks for mountain, road, and bmx. Let’s get started.
Get a huge nail, bolt, or even a tent stake, and mount one of these GoPro bases to it. Heating up the tape a lot will make it stick better. Once it cools you can use it as a handle, or stick it in the ground to film yourself. Although it’s clearly unsafe, It’s more badass than a gorilla pod, and easier to set up. I call it a GoShank.
While the GoShank is great in a pinch, some jobs require a real tripod. Many hydration packs have these buckles at the top for the front pouch. Secure the upper part of a tripod leg behind this buckle, and tuck the bottom of the leg behind the shoulder strap. It’s amazing how well the tripod stays in place. I've seen more than one UA-camr use this trick.
Old inner tubes are usually left in the trash, but actually you can make heavy duty rubber bands out of them. These don’t dry out as quickly as normal rubber bands, and they’re great for securing-inner tubes. It looks like if you double them up they could also be used as volume reducers. After all, volume reducers just sit there and take up space.
There's nothing worse than showing up to a race without the entry fee, which is usually cash only. Pull the end cap off your handlebar and hide a $20 bill inside. Put an inner tube rubber band around it so that it doesn't slide around, and you'll have emergency funds if you forget your wallet. This could get you out of a jam someday.
As we saw in another video you could also use that bit of currency to brace a sidewall tear. After experimenting with 5 different methods we found that a rolled up bill holds up with the best of them. This is because currency is made from a water resistant durable cloth, rather than traditional paper. Just slip the bill between the tire and a tube, and carefully pump it up. This can get you back to the trailhead without walking.
When I showed the cable fray trick in another video, some of you thought I was playing it in reverse, but it’s true! You can unfray some cables by twisting them from the base and working your way back up. This works particularly well on cables that were recently frayed, and usually by clipping a little off the end and adding a new cap, you’re back up and running without needing to swap the whole thing.
Car interior cleaning wipes are a really convenient way to clean your bike. Although I wouldn’t use them on moving parts, and certainly not on disc brakes, they do work great on the rest of the bike. They’re great for getting into tight spaces, and you can always leave a can of them in your car for ease of use. I’ve heard you shouldn’t use these on tires, but I’ve been doing it with no adverse affects. Of course I do take care not to get any on the tread.
When you’re climbing a fire road the summertime, particularly in the northeast, gnats seem to find their way to your face, eyes, and mouth. This is because they tend to fly to the highest point on your body. So while you’re climbing that fire road, put your arm in the air for some temporary relief, and then sprint away to make your escape.
If you want to accurately weigh your bike these purpose built scales are just awesome, but you can do it on the cheap with a fish scale. It’s not pretty, and it’s not easy to hook your bike to, but it’s surprisingly accurate and it gets the job done for $10. Fish scales sometimes have a measuring tape built in, which is a cool bonus.
I see a lot of riders use trail mix as a snack, in fact the sweet and salty mix seems to be ideal for some quick, filling energy. But trail mix is lame, so make your own!
Home made trail mix is anything but lame. Just pick out a few awesome ingredients, pour them into a container, and mix them up real good. I’m using cranberries, peanuts, and reese’s in mine. If you want to spice it up you can snap into a Slim Jim. I guarantee you won’t find this trail mix in stores.
So there you go. 10 more, sort of bike hacks. I’m starting a new list now and figure it should be done by the summer. If you have any bike hacks let me know in the comments and maybe you’ll see it in the next video. Until then, thanks for riding with me today and I’ll see you next time. - Розваги
1:50 - awesome! I'm out now to start checking handle bars on the bikes parked on the streets... emergency beer money...
mrN3w7 i will never remember I put money there
Hahahah
Lol
Easy money in steal!
Not everyone will do that u dumbass
Can we just give kudos to Seth for writing out the entire script to this video under in the description, good job man
He writes his scripts before and he probably copy and pasted it. But kudos for the extra effort of even writing it!
Omg. I didn't even notice that.
Do you know what size tire he uses for his diamond back?
K Mendez that is a very odd question
Im pretty sure he wrote the script to read for the video not that he just added it after
I slipped a pedal once and hurt my shin I went inside and told my mum that I did. Her response was that’s why you always wear a helmet 👌
*facepalm*
Clid 😂 I know right
Lol
I hate pedal strikes
Oh yeah, I had a scooter hit my ankle..... TWICE
my favorite bike hack is crush an empty soda can and put it between ur frame and back wheel. When u ride it sounds like a motorcycle and makes you the most badass 8 year old on the block
Andrew Gordon destroys your tire too
I did it when I was 6 with my bike and an empty plastic water bottle and it sounded like the coolest thing ever
xrkoo gd who asked you MOM
When I was a kid we used a playing card clothes pinned to the frame against the spokes.
It would destroy your spokes
trail mix? you mean m&ms with obstacles?
Codymanbro _ original jokes? you mean repeating the common ones.
Codymanbro Trail mix you mean chocolate skittles and TicTac’s
And the slim Jim
Codymanbro lol
Ahmen!
Bought my first mountainbike 4 days ago and found this channel yesterday. I really like you'r channel and you're a very good biker. Keep it up! Sincerely from Sweden! Subscribed btw👍
+Frank Moose welcome!
Bro are you hitting massive freeride jumps yet?
bananas stuff Haha nope
Are you still riding?
@@ryanaiken2548 No my bike broke down over a year ago… Have not biked much more since then
if you get a flat tire somewhere far away and you don't have anything to fix it, use a lighter to melt some plastic on the hole , this will get you ~ 1-2 km (my experience)
Or just try to melt the tube back together. Am I right?
Fuck.. what a good idea 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Who carry a lighter on a ride
I have stuffed a tyre full of long grass after a punture. It kinda worked, but i would rather just walk
@@MloVisual chronic smokers and campers
I spilled my beer when you used the three way to mix the gorp.....
+Nate Hills Funny thing is it worked real good
When I saw the intro with the tri-key in the drill, I could not guess what that was going to be used for.
Yeah, love that one too!
I may use this for guacamole.......
The flavour of rust is delisyoso
I'm not sure about the name goshank, how about the trail nail?
™
Marin would probably Sue, my most recent demo bike was a Marin nail trail
Yh I like that name
Coz it sticks in the ground like a nail in a trail
@Force Ghost lmao
I’m a novice rider (actually an old rider rediscovering the pleasure of a mountain bike), and I really enjoy your videos, especially this simple hacks/tips that can really make a difference even on a budget. Thanks for sharing your personal knowledge, it’s truly helpful!
Those interior wipes are FANTASTIC for bike cleaning...
“Im starting a playlist and should be done by the end of summer”
*boy i sure have news for you!*
Depends on how much you care about how much your bike weighs but another thing to do with older inner tubes is to cut it vertically down the middle and wrap it around your new tube it basically makes you tube twice as thick. I've done it a lot before and it definitely helps stop pinch flats!
thats fcking SMARTTT
Kael 416j that's genius
Kael 416j no more spending another £20 for dual ply tires
you mean to say in 2017 you still use tubes!? Ok if you are a dirt jumper!
James Butler yeah I know but sometimes I cant be bothered to go through the hassle of tubeless even though I know it's worth it in the long run I got loads of inertubes lying around so might aswell use them up first
In Canada it gets icy so when I want to ride to a friends house I put zip ties around my rim and tire like tire chains.
Kyle Green BMX That will work perfect on Disc brakes but on V-brake its an fuckin disaster
Hey I do that on my RC cars never thought about it on a larger scale
I live in Minnesota and that a good idea!
3:58 smile for the camera c:
As a bike mechanic, I can say that the cable trick works REALLY well! Thanks 😁
I take the brake levers off my bike and spray them with rubber spray paint to increase grip. You can do it with any color to match your bike as well, and it holds up surprisingly well.
my bike hack. To store bikes vertically, zip tie (or inner tube rubber band) the rear brake, and then just lean it up against a wall on the handlebars, the handlebars balance it, and it won't move with the back wheel locked up. A lot simpler than a wall mount, and a lot cheaper.
edit: also ride with me when u move to avl seth, I go to school here.
Dave Huffstetler that... is very clever
not bad
😐 I now have a 200 square space area rather then a 10 square inch area, thanks! It's so obvious yet so, not obvious! 😂
Dave Huffstetler nice!
Dave Huffstetler yo Dave!! Didnt expect to see you here lol
I wear some spare chain links around my wrist so when I snap my chain I have extra to use on the trail, and it overall looks dope.
Love your videos, so relaxing to watch.
anybody know a hack to get a $4,000 bike for not $4,000.00?
MLO VISUAL some bolt cutters or an angle grinder, just choose one from a bike rack 👍🏻 lol
xD
Buy it in pounds
You do know we pay way more in the UK!! A $4000 over here is about £6300!
website pinkbike? I buy all second hand bikes from there and usually bargain prices
On a hot day ride, fill your hydration bladder or water bottle half way and lay it at a slight angle in the freezer overnight. For the bladder make sure you blow up the bladder like a balloon to make sure the water freezes in the shape of a full bladder. For water bottles make sure the cap is not partially submerged. Then fill with water and you will have ice cold water for the whole ride.
The comment that is in a video.
Hi
@@festivekamikaze maybe Seth got it from his comment?
Bad idea if you ask me, it can mess with the rubber
The trail mix is probably the best tip in the video. Thanks!
Great fun, the whole video. And very decent as far as inspiration goes. Good idea about the food. And the mixing method is just perfect.
I use a paint marker and put a mark on both shifter/brake clamp and a corresponding mark on the handle bar for easy repositioning after a wreck or maintenance. Just line the marks up.
Same for seat post height.
I've watched like 10 of these and haven't used one of these
Oh, I’m saving this one. Excellent hacks.
This right here has to be one of your funniest videos yet, (burst out laughing several times) and I'm actually looking forward to that gnat climb to see if that works. Brilliant stuff, thank you!
0:49 I’ve watched this like 19 times and this gets me to laugh every single time
Hold bike, step on scale, record.
Set bike down, step on scale, record.
Math
love the GoShank and when you used the three way to mix the trail mix. Great vid
Best mixing tool ever!
The reason why you're not supposed to use those wipes on your tires is that they can make the rubber dry out faster. The thinking is that wipes that use an alcohol or similar substance to make them evaporate will cause the tires to dry out and crack sooner. With the amount of riding you do, you probably replace tires long before this would happen any way.
Dave Dave I've had numerous cult dehart tires last well over two years with only car tire shine
it does do that, but ive only ever seen the cracking on older car tires, but like you said, a bike tire probaly wont last that long
Awesome video Seth but I mean I love all of your videos
Tnx for the expectacular advice 👍👋👏👏👏from the Philippines.
Now thats a real youtuber. "10 bike hacks that will blow your mind" and is done in 5 minutes...
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Need to come up with an OG name for that homemade trail mix with the jerky ... Hacks Mix maybe?
Sounds a bit eh.
Walt Robinson zlim mix
"There are only two genders mix" is my vote
Macho Mix?
Beast mix?
“The cream rises to the top” lol macho man!
Lol
Seth u r da 1 who inspired meh 2 go mountain biking thk u so much u r da best bro
You had me at GoShank! Adding that to the channel tool box!
Lol, im using a inner tube band to hold my brake lever together...
I clean my bikes with unscented baby wipes from Amazon. Super cheap and super effective.
Craig Baker me too
Craig Baker that’s funny I clean my baby with bike wipes!!
I use car wax and a microfiber. Polish that frame up. Lol
Then interior wipes on everything else 👍
Im in Love with the goShank
these vids are so well edited and produced and helpful with useful content.
After changing my 3x9 to a 1x9 I had a leftover front derailleur shifter, with a little modification I managed to repurpose it to work as my dropper post switch. Now my dropper post switch matches my rear derailleur shifter and it is way more ergonomic than the dropper post switch that came with my dropper post.
That was a road bike emoji you betrayed us
great video seth, been watching you for a couple of years now, love your channel ello from the uk!!!
like the trail mix I'm definitely going to try it
I've got a good bike hack! I took an extra handlebar end plug, wrapped it with electrical tape until it was thick enough to plug my seat post. It fits and seals perfectly but it's not too hard to take out!
My sensus grips end plugs are too difficult to take off to store things in the handlebars like you showed in this video, so this works as a great alternative for me.
You can put money in there, or it's also a good place to hide a piece of paper with your name and phone number, as proof of ownership in case the bike ever gets stolen
TtopMusic great idea!
Until you step up and buy a dropper post......
Can you please make a video on best budget bikes for beginners? I'm pretty sure that many of us live outside USA in different life standards and can't afford 1,000$ MTB as a beginner, but would really like to start out somewhere.
eBay has some great bike for decent prices
I like to wrap twine or duck tape around my seatpost for emergencies. Old tubes (and zip ties) make great chain stay protectors. Keep 'em coming!
I can't wait till more videos like this comes out.
I have one. If you wear a ponytail, put extra hairbands on the brake lever and slide 'em towards the hinge part. Spares in case you somehow lose the one you're wearing. :)
torpedodog Good idea! Just threw one on my bike now. Thanks😁
I have a Bike hack. If You ride Street and you plan to let your bike sit out (say you're going to a store for a few minutes) keep a few plastic bags underneath the seat for when it rains
I like that trail mix idea.
Hahaha, loved the GoShank!
I was just thinking- “you know what trail mix really needs... meat.”
The handlebar tube is also a good place to hide your stash.
nice! simple, but works!
your video is so useful !!! thanks
#bikehack, if u need to carry a fishing rod while biking, u can use the bag from a folding camp chair to carry it over your shoulder
great advice
the nitro matt this is going to be a lifesaver I usually just tape it to the frame but the way I ride it always come Loose and fall thankyou for the tip
the nitro matt Normally I'll ride with them in my left hand it's never been a problem unless your riding long distance. 2 rods or even 3
the nitro matt this is GREAT advice. Will be using this one for sure.
ogieogre make sure to collapse your rod if possible
Seth I got a life hack. If your bar end gets stuck inside the bars use a bottle opener
That trail mix actually looks delicious
Brilliant video seth. watching while my legs recover from my bike race. you should do a video on recovery after long rides
when using a hydration pack a good way to stop them getting disgusting when they sit because you didn't clean them properly or whatever is to put it in the freezer when you're done. bladder and hose! you'll have a cold drink for a while when you start your ride. My favourite hack!
You can use the freezer to take the smell from old shoes too. Tie them up tight in a grocery bag so you dont get dirt on your other food. The cold kills some of the bacteria that makes shoes smelly.
OFFROAD_DRIVER7 now that’s a hack!!!
OFFROAD_DRIVER7 I would however suggest putting the bladder in a ziplock bag so it doesn’t end up tasting like the freezer.
Use two toothbrushs and face the brush side to getter the tape the them together and u got your self a chain cleaner
I'm getting a new bike soon and will be going on the trails as soon as I get it with all of these awesome bike hacks
this is awesome DIY ! simple everybody can follow.
0:28 is what your ears came for
Also I have some bike hacks,
1. Leaving a spare masterlink taped to a cable
2. If you ride like me with your hands hanging off the bars you normally wear done the outsides of the grips but the inside looks new so rotate them to get more life out of them.
3. From a motocross I always have motocross/motorcycle chain lube laying around. it's cheaper most of the time then bicycle chain lube and works the same if not better
Just my two cents lol
That trail mix looks good
Thx for this cool Bike Hacks :D
(very useful)
put a crunch top water bottle in your back tire and It will make a car sound
One sorta bike hack is to use duct and some sort of playing card, duct tape the card between your rims. Now your bike sounds like a DIRTbike
Ster your probably 9 years old
Dude, it has to be a baseball card, preferably one that would be worth a fortune someday.
Inter tubes are great frame protection, especially on the down tube and chain stay . I cut the stem section out and cut them on the long by this method,if needed it can be turned into a make shift cord or bungee style strap it also works if someone gets a shoulder, arm or leg injury with some sticks and the tube rap you can immobilized the effected area .
this is so useful.. thanks seth bike hack!
BIKE HACK. when riding with friends, if you go into a store on a busy street and don't have a bike lock, stack the bikes awkwardly to deter thieves. if the bike are standing alone upright, anyone could grab one and roll away, but if the bikes are in a pile they will have to spend the time to untangle some bars and pedals to take your bike. it may scratch your bike, but it can save you from losing your bike forever!
or just have one friend stay outside
Sometimes i just bring my bike in the store well it depends where you go
Me: hey do you watch Seth’s bike hacks?
Friend: yeah
Me:ok
Also me the next day: *checks his bars*
There is 5 good bike hacks for your next video I love your videos thanks for the videos you got me into bikeing
tks Seth that was killer!!
I have a Bike Hack.... THAT IS YOU SETH.
Who else instantly likes the video before watching?
Seth has became a part of da jungle with dat music!
Thanks for the tip about the scale to weigh a bike. I bought the $9 scale from Amazon and it worked well.
don't bother with cable crimps. just dab it in super glue.
When putting on new grips use wd40 it has alcohol in it so it evaporates fast and makes a tight seal plus it will lube the grip to make it easier to put on the bars
Fire Cat221 hairspray also works, especially if they're not lock-ons and you could use the extra stick
Great video!
They really blew my mind!
baby wipes are way cheaper then expensive interior wipes and are just as good. if it's good enough to wipe shite off a babies arse it's good enough to wipe shite off your bike. 😀
Have you ever tied a knot in an innertube to Patch it? Try it it works
Genius
Michael Zaug WTF?!
that trail mix he made looked so good
Great hacks, gonna use a few
Put a bluetooth speaker in water bottle holder. Singletrack jams!
i do this too, i also added a large gear clamp to secure the speaker. I have the JBL flip 4 on my bike and do jumps etc all the time, never once has it come loose
Sooo. No water? I guess music is better than hydration.
hydration backpack
Ryan h I know.
BIKE HACK. Hey Seth here is a Bike Hack: Wrap a old inner tube around the chainstay for a chainstay protector
That is super old
Yeah but it is a classic bike hack
Use old tire for a better protection ;)
most bikes come with one
+Jacek Gaj I use that one :)
Love your videos
Another great tips that I have seen on UA-cam about inner tubes is that you can make Zippo rubber covers. fit might be tight but it’s great way protect lighter from water and snow, also it keeps fuel much more longer than without
here is a hack that will save you a whole lot of money. if you live in the U.S.A and trying to do more risky riding, move to Canada. eh
We're missing your "tricks videos"
I've rewatched Seth's bike hacks I don't know how many times 😅
Thank's a lot, Seth!!
