First of all, it’s all my interpretation
I believe this is one of the best records of all time because of the lyrics.
I’ve never heard a record trying to deal with a friends death in this way. Of course with the sadness but also the shame of ditching the funeral and the self doubt about if you truly were there for the person. The guilt about not always being there. The anger about the fact that the person left even though you really did your best trying to help them. The fear of standing in the ER not knowing what to do. The problems of having to deal with your own mental health at the same time. The memories and the what-could-have-been’s, the analysis of what went wrong in the persons life and how we’re sometimes incapable of caring for each other. The acceptance that some things are out of our hands.
And finally the ending with the picture of a tombstone with the inscription “tell me again that it’s all in my head”. And then the strumming from the intro comes back, now in a different key, and it all starts over again.
    It truly is a masterpiece.
