I’ve been listening to a book called The Way We Never Were, which dismantles beliefs like that and exposes the terrible things we don’t have to put up with anymore. You’d think it’s a very modern book, but it was written in 1992

And now, there is federal law that children services must talk with families about whether or not they are part of a Tribe or Nation, and then, if the answer is yes, they must contact the tribe and let them decide how they want to handle the issues with their tribe members and their children. It's called ICWA (Indian Child Welfair Act) en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Child_Welfare_Act

I worked with these cases for six years. The unfortunate part is that states can get away with applying the law in the way the state wants. When I worked in Iowa, they were dedicated to following the law as written, and I was part of that. Once I moved to Oregon, and there are lots of tribes here, they kind of don't bother a whole lot with ICWA from what I can see. I know that a few years ago (under the former administration) there were lawsuits to dismantle ICWA from even existing.

I just binged The Green Veil. It was sad, suspenseful, infuriating and raw. Everyone should start with this. Then educate yourselves on ICWA (it’s not over and this film reinforces the sense of false security as demonstrated by the white male majority of SCOTUS). There’s a great podcast titled This Land that does in depth reporting on the history to present day of white America’s egregious sense of entitlement to the children of Native families in America. First Nations in Canada as well. Any gains that have been made by any group are entirely under assault by SCOTUS, MAGA, The Heritage Foundation (Project 2025) and Christian Nationalists. All of these groups are actually one and the same. WAKE UP AMERICA!

I really immersed myself in Native history and never heard about this. I even worked for ten years on a reservation, with child welfare cases, on the same reservation where they designed the ICWA law. I'm pretty stunned. What I haven't heard mentioned in public yet, or "exposed," if you will, is what's been going on for decades at Boys Town in Omaha, along the same lines as the Matt Gaetz story -- only way worse.

    How ironic is life,
Univision is a Network created by the MEXICAN entrepreneur Emilio Azcárraga Milmo,
He had already the Mexican Monopoly network TELEVISA in Mexico City, which fed entertainment for the longest time to most Latin America and Spain.
That man manipulated Mexican politics for THE LOOONGEST time, brainwashed Mexican people as long as he wanted.
And now Univision is basically also against Mexicans, against people who just want a better life by working.
The country that gave him everything, never meant anything to him.

This Oglala Lakota Oyate member just made an account. I loved John Leguizamo in every role he played, especially in Spawn, but, if this is a somewhat accurate portrayal of what we went through and are still going through, I will have to buy or make something for this guy in appreciation. If there is too much fiction or dramatization, I'm still going to keep him up there. We smell bullshit with our eyes and taste fake noises in our fingers. I'll enter optimistically, but Iktomi holds only hands with Coyote and finds trouble so we'll see.
