Hey and welcome back( or welcome) to my channel! Today is my first No-buy update, 4 months in. It’s a chatty one so grab a cuppa and get comfy, or just treat me like a podcast and leave me on in the bsckground🤪 I would love to know how your no-buy or low-buy is going! I want to acknowledge that choosing to do a no-buy is a total privilege. I understand some people are too broke to even get the choice, but I hope my message comes from a place of inspiration for those of you who are looking to improve your spending and shopping habits, in case they are keeping you broke too; because that was me once. A few years ago, I had a part time job, but I was spending all my money on clothes that some days I couldn’t afford my €2 bus to work. All because I couldn’t control my spending habits. So if that is you, then just know there is hope for you yet. I haven’t gotten myself into that sticky of a situation lately, but I am at a place in my life where I feel I should be saving more for my future, but my money habits are keeping me stuck, so that’s why I’ve chosen to do this no-buy now. I wish you all the best of luck in your own shopping challenges ❤
I did a no buy January. It went well. I bought 1 item yesterday, a pair of sunglasses, which have been on my wish list for a couple of years. I was at the opticians for a eye test and I had 50% discount. No buy Feb for me now.
I have a spending problem, I buy for the sake of buying and half the stuff I never wear and I can’t figure out why I do it. Possibly boredom. Fantasy me or just because I can. Half the things I order go back. This February I’m trying not to buy, but it’s hard. I have a wardrobe full of clothes, half will never be worn, it’s crazy and stupid of me. Glad I’ve dropped in here❤
I know the feeling! I think I do it for a few different reasons. 2. To prove to myself that I can, and I can afford things (even if maybe I can’t) and 2. To try and be someone else, by buying something different to my usual style that I likely never wear cos it’s too different. I’m learning to just embrace myself and not try to be someone else. I’m sure you will find your patterns so you can start to notice them and work through it. Xx
A yes-buy life sounds like exactly what you deserve now ♥️ I get that shopping is a privilege, and being able to chose a no-buy is also a privilege. I had thought about that before and wanted to clarify that in my videos but I forgot until you’ve just said this. But don’t get me wrong, I never spent a lot of money on clothes because I didn’t have loads to spend, I would just spend whatever I had, meaning sometimes I didn’t even have enough for my bills or even a bus to work. I’ve been there when I had to walk over an hour to work instead because even though I had a job I spent all my money out of impulse. I hope you’re truly enjoying your yes-buy life xx
I am doing a no by February! I have that replacing my urge to shop with dress up in my closet, or cooking/baking, really ticks the urge for me! I have discovered that the urge to shop comes from the need, and want to be creative and put something new together. Which is why Doing these two things replaces that so well!
Amazing! Playing dress up in your closet is one of the most fun things, which unfortunately we don’t all have time for or make time for. That’s great that you’ve found your trigger, and what a great one too xx
Well done on your no buy journey! Ive done the odd no buy month at least 3 or 4 times with success! I started ordering clothes every month after pay day during the pandemic and realized after the pandemic that i didnt want to adopt this new habit so i went on a no buy month whuch broke that cycle for me. I haven't ever decided to do a no buy year but i am on year 3 of a low buy with the occasional months ban. I havea few trips with friends charity shopping or clothes shopping so i dont want to cut out those days out but i am trying to be less impulsive i also have a habit of buying coffee sometimes i only buy an iced discounted coffee which is less than £1 because I work at a discount shop lol! But i do want to go without those sometimes! Ive got the goal designating days where i can shop so im hoping to that anyway the reason why im on a low buy is because i work part time and i am on a low income and i want to build emergency fund! Anyway im continuing with the low buy and i dont shop as much now. I do have a few hobbies but ive got enough art equipment and video stuff ( i convert vhs and cassettes 😂) that im into so i shouldnt need to buy anything else for a while!
Best of luck with it! I had been thinking about a no buy year for sooooo long too, maybe years before actually committing. I think I just feared that I’d fail. You’ve got this!!
I am doing a no buy year - I have a very small wardrobe and lost one of my sweaters coming back from the holidays, so I ended up replacing it (was able to replace it with a sweater that was originally $2,000 on VC for $300, new with tags, so way higher quality than the phantom missing one). But that was it - I’ve learned I need to get better at making coffee, but I still got my cooking skills 😊
Oh noo! I hate losing items during travel. But that sounds like a great replacement find. Haha yes also trying to get better at making coffee at home. Best of luck with your no-buy year! Xx
I planned a low-buy Jan, and then wandered into my local charity shops and blew £500 in one morning. I got a brand new Boss jacket (tags said £850) and a gorgeous vintage Versace wool coat, as well as a couple of Ganni silk shirts and a stunning pink cord men's trouser suit. Then add on the £150 to get things tailored to fit, but I don't regret a penny of it I think I'm an abstainer, rather than a moderator. So... I'm doing a 'NO buy Ninety', which will take me up to May 1st. I agree with you that it's easier to buy nothing than to 'bargain' with oneself. I've paused my Amazon Prime account so I can no longer impulse buy; I'll put things in my basket and look at it on Saturday mornings, when I'm not stressed. Thanks for getting me back on track!
I mean, they all sound like amazing finds! It can be hard with charity shopping cos it feels like you only have one chance to get them, it’s not like you can just go back for them in a few months. No buy 90 sounds like a great plan! Best of luck with it ♥️ xx
Currently on a no buy year.. the hardest part is the urge to spend money.. at first it was exciting seeing how well I can budget… but now i just want to spend money on clothes or on going out to eat, my boyfriend takes me out but I would like a crazy girls night.. for now I’m just doing coffee dates with my friends but it’s not the same… I hope it gets easier 😅 I know it will be worth it in the end
I can’t imagine how hard a total no but year would be! That’s amazing that you’re doing it! Just remember it’s not forever, and you can have a big girls night to celebrate once you’ve finished. Maybe you could find a super affordable girls night option that could give you that much needed girl time soon. It will be worth it!! You’ve got this Alyssa!!x
You don’t have to worry about your tummy; my tummy is at least 3 times the size and I feel self-conscious about it (trying to stick to a Keto diet but having a hard time doing so at the moment), so I’d love to have a tummy like yours so don’t think about it too much, you have to put it into perspective.
I have previously mentioned in these videos that it’s a huge privilege in the first place to “choose” to not shop; unfortunately for a lot of the west it’s so normal to overspend because society is set up that way. I appreciate your comment ♥️
I am doing a no-buy year for clothes , I've had an impulse shopping problem with clothes for a while and last year it was really bad. January was smoother than I thought, I was tempted a few times but I didnt give in. But I know I will be super Tempted once spring/summer arrives
Best of luck! I feel the same about being tempted come spring/summer but hopefully the switch over of my wardrobe into summer clothes will feel new and fresh enough for me to keep my shopping at bay xx
Hey, yes it is Sezane, good spot! Awh thank you, I’m so pleased it’s helpful. Consious consumerism is the goal for me too. It’s like like I’ll never shop again but being aware of my shopping habits and knowing if it’s me who has made the decision to shop or some marketing that has influenced me to want/“need” something, that’s the awareness I want. Thanks for watching lovely xx

lmao i've had a no-buy life due to poverty. this is a funny concept to me. i'm finally experiencing a yes-buy time in my life

I’ve just started my first no buy month! It’s something I’ve wanted to do for ages to prove to myself I can control my shopping habits haha.

None of us should be self conscious ♥️ I know that deep down but just haven’t been able to shake it from my subconscious mind just yet! Xx
I‘m doing this no buy challenge since I was a child. I’m living in eastern Europe
I have previously mentioned in these videos that it’s a huge privilege in the first place to “choose” to not shop; unfortunately for a lot of the west it’s so normal to overspend because society is set up that way. I appreciate your comment ♥️

Hi Gemma, is your beautiful sweater from sezane? You will be fine! I am working on being a very conscious consumer, your channel is very helpful
Hey, yes it is Sezane, good spot! Awh thank you, I’m so pleased it’s helpful. Consious consumerism is the goal for me too. How did you stop yourself from overshopping?
I try to always have a list of some kind for my wardrobe, so I aim to stick to that as much as possible when I shop xx
When is your birthday?
April 5th 😊
Where does the handbag come from? It’s gorgeous!
It’s from a brand called Kassandra paris, but bought from tk maxx xx
