This is an excellent video. If this is a SWAT operation, many times SWAT operatives wear ear protection that serve a dual purpose of hearing the radio and ear protection. Also, and a real life situation, there is something called auditory exclusion. You may not hear your own shots or they will sound muffled. 😉

What? Doesn't ear protection reduce all outside noise? Hearing footsteps in a swat operation seems way too important then having protection
Close quarters where swat usually are is where u will get most use out of hearing footsteps and small sounds

@@wolfbad512 Ear protection for SWAT serves so many purposes including what you mentioned. They also will protect you against flash bang noise. They are most likely to use flash bangs more than anything else lethal

@@wolfbad512it’s complicated. The hearing protection they wear which we all can buy. The ones SWAT operators and even military uses have a thing on their headsets where the can adjust the adaptive frequency. So you can turn it up to hear conversations and such crystal clear but the decibels of any firefight will be suppressed. The ones the military uses and SWAT operators use are opscore they are incredibly expensive because it’s one of the few that actually works with comms while others are used only for range purposes. The one opscore sell cost are $900.
The others that are the same or have the same function as the opscore minus the comms capability those are a lot less they can range from $100-$500

@@wolfbad512battery operated hearing protection (like the walkers he has on the video) actually lets you hear better than when you don’t have any. You can hear every small sounds, but blocks out extremely loud noise, it’s pretty neat. Also you can attach a radio on it so only you can hear the radio chatter and you can talk on the microphone

    It's called Auditory Exclusion.
During a stressful situation your heart rate kicks into high gear due to adrenaline. The heart bpm can cause hearing to go away for the person involved. Many involved in shootings never hear the shots fired, similar to how hunters can fire high powered rifles at big game and are not affected.

Most modern range ear protection works with a specialized microphone that filters out anything over a specific decibel level. Any normal talking you'll be able to hear crystal clear While anything like a gunshot or a firework will seem no louder than the conversation you were just having. And by most modern ones I mean most over $100 which is very reasonable for something that protects your hearing

I think ear plugs would work to give a little ear protection as fast as possible like the ones that wrap around the neck I think would be perfect but obviously in an active threat situation not gonna be the most practical but in situations we're you know you may have to fire your weapon but aren't entirely sure yet I think they would do great

they now have ear buds that's also ear pros, but like the video said, it's usually not readily available. you'll have to be wearing it all day, like how deaf people use hearing aids, and that's not really as realistic as it seems for a normal hearing person. also, you'll have to make sure to clean your ears if you do wear earbuds every day, or the accumulation of ear eax myight be an issue, long term.
(jic, I'm not a LEO, doctor, or anything pro on this matter. just my 2¢, being a gun owner & do train with my guns as a hobby & self defense, there's a bit of familiarity with firearms I'd like to share.)
