This is an excellent video. If this is a SWAT operation, many times SWAT operatives wear ear protection that serve a dual purpose of hearing the radio and ear protection. Also, and a real life situation, there is something called auditory exclusion. You may not hear your own shots or they will sound muffled. 😉
What? Doesn't ear protection reduce all outside noise? Hearing footsteps in a swat operation seems way too important then having protection Close quarters where swat usually are is where u will get most use out of hearing footsteps and small sounds

@@wolfbad512battery operated hearing protection (like the walkers he has on the video) actually lets you hear better than when you don’t have any. You can hear every small sounds, but blocks out extremely loud noise, it’s pretty neat. Also you can attach a radio on it so only you can hear the radio chatter and you can talk on the microphone
It's called Auditory Exclusion. During a stressful situation your heart rate kicks into high gear due to adrenaline. The heart bpm can cause hearing to go away for the person involved. Many involved in shootings never hear the shots fired, similar to how hunters can fire high powered rifles at big game and are not affected.
Your eardrums don't have shields that go up when your heart rate increases . Wow who woulda thunk that during a stressful situation that your brain won't register some senses
Lots of ear muffs used during target practice are equipped with microphone type things that allow you to hear people talking around you, but blocks out any noises past a certain noise level. So once you start firing it’ll block out the gunfire
My department has a list of approved stuff from what guns we can carry, lights we can use, and optics that can go on that gun. As long as they're on the list and you qualify with them you can carry them. We do get issued a standard duty weapon but everything else is on your own dime
Most modern range ear protection works with a specialized microphone that filters out anything over a specific decibel level. Any normal talking you'll be able to hear crystal clear While anything like a gunshot or a firework will seem no louder than the conversation you were just having. And by most modern ones I mean most over $100 which is very reasonable for something that protects your hearing
I think ear plugs would work to give a little ear protection as fast as possible like the ones that wrap around the neck I think would be perfect but obviously in an active threat situation not gonna be the most practical but in situations we're you know you may have to fire your weapon but aren't entirely sure yet I think they would do great
The only ear protection I would actually wear would be that sig Sauer hearing stuff that they have it also has amplifiers built in so you can hear what's going on around you it looks pretty cool but also I believe it functions as full suppressing for sound so you don't blow out your ears at least it's an ear protection that also does audio signal to your ears so you can hear it's all electronic
They should make something specifically for police officers where it fits on both ears and if it something reaches over a certain decimal in sound then it’ll activate acting more like hearing resistant if that makes since

There are earbuds you could use that have pass-through for normal noises like talking to people and hearing your radio but block out loud sounds like gunfire. The downside is that they're expensive, need to be recharged, and they could just fall out. Maybe still worth it

I’ve heard people say you should shoot a few rounds without hearing protection once in awhile so in an emergency it won’t be a surprise and you’ll be used to it
In most combat conditions your body will protect itself and u won't receive hearing damage from a couple shots because of that but it requires an adrenaline surge
I remember when me and my family decided to go shoot guns just for fun one time. And as we were shooting my papaw had let me shoot one of his pistols. Most ear phones that police use actually protect your hearing, but you can still hear other people talk. To give commands
Earmor is pretty much that. Any sounds over a certain range are muted but you can still hear talking or even footsteps
