I do my tomato cages the same way but I fasten two together and make it about 8' tall and secure it with a chain link top rail. It is sturdy enough to hold any size plants and the kids even climb them. It is amazing how big tomato plants grow if they are supported properly. We usually plant three plants per cage and prune them into two canes till they are about seven foot tall then let them spread out. This year is the fourth year growing this way and cages are still in great condition. We bent the panels over a 55 gallon barrel to make the cylinders and wire the two halves together. Upstate SC.

It's a nice cage. I think that you could have saved the bailing wire and a lot of time by using the wire ends of the side of the cage that you clipped off and bend approximately 1.5 inches of that tail end of the wire with needle nose pliers and hook it at the other end to complete the cylinder (cage).

Whenever you were cutting the panels apart initially why wouldn't you just leave tea original long pieces on and just bend it sideways from there then when you make it roll you already have the ground spikes?

Thanks for the video! Have you tried using zip ties instead of bailing wire?

This is great, looks way sturdier than the little three pronged tomato cages. Do you get the cattle panels that are 16 feet long from Tractor Supply?
