    I also wanted to tell you that if I ever ever become very extremely successful at KDP publishing, I want to be transparent and tell people how to honestly how to do this, so they can be successful as well, so thank you so very much for being genuine and sincerely wanting to help other people to do as well as you are! Don't wait to get an answer how people sell their books that bad. No one will tell never. I have been watching more than 100000 videos in this issue kdp and how running ads... But I didn't get any answer. But lately I figured it how. It is just so easy to figured it out as easy as you can imagine. When you start really analyzing those books you will get it. That strategy I think just few people who do it.good luck

    Chris, as always, you explain things with such clarity and it leaves few questions, at least for me. I have always said that KDP is NOT a get rich quick scheme and it is unfortunate, (at least when I started over 2 years ago) that is how it was always promoted. Just like you said, hundreds of "Gurus" out there wanting to sell a course or an affiliate program. Rarely would you find the person who actually has had the discouraging feeling of doing everything as suggested (by others) and it yields no sales. There are a handful (3? 4?) of folks that I follow for KDP and you of course are one, who have maintained transparency and given the good with the bad. All of this to say, thank you! I appreciate your experience and knowledge. I look forward to your videos and have gained a lot by watching and following them. Looking forward to your next project, and as always, thank you!❣

    I've been trying to learn as much as I can on KDP for the past 6 months or so as I feel like it's a good outlet for my illustration and Graphic Design background except all the videos I came across made me feel pretty disheartened. Not when most of them were either trying to hock some pay for plug-in or some get quick scheme by spamming KDP with a bunch of need no skill- slapped together online-website-clip-art-books uploaded en mass. I have to say your videos have felt the most honest and they have been refreshing.

    This is the first video of yours that I have seen. All I can say is THANK YOU! I am going to subscribe to your channel. You sound like you have a more practical approach to publishing on KDP than a lot of the other people I have watched. I am a beginner at publishing word search books. I did my own research before starting this project. I am learning with every book, what not to do again, and how to improve as I go along.
    Anyway I need to look into the ads, for at least one of my books, to start with. So I can see how it all works.

    Thank you so much. 🙏🏾 This is a refreshing video. So few are transparent with the side hustles. Especially KDP. I just published my first book on KDP. It’s a workbook and journal. The first 40 pages are unique continent on how to structure, organize and achieve your goals. So many UA-camrs were talking about medium content books. I thought my book was medium content until Amazon made it clear to me that there is no such thing. It’s either low-content or it’s not. Because the majority of my book is journal pages, KDP classified it as low continent. I’m ok with that and I’ve made a few sales but I have no clue what I’m doing and haven’t done ads yet because I don’t know how. I can’t wait for your course to drop. I joined your Facebook group and I’m excited to learn more. ♥️♥️♥️

Thanks for being honest with us. best wishes.

    Thank you for this honest take on lined notebooks. I have 24 lined notebooks and journals and let's just say they are not paying the bills, lol. I spent a lot of time making the artwork for the covers. Each cover design is targeted toward a specific demographic with its subject matter & style. I did niche research for all of them.
    They've been on Amazon for 5 months and I've sold a total of 46 units. Most of those sales are from ads. I'm basically breaking even because I had to spend so much on ads just to get those sales. I'm hoping those sales will lead to more organic sales in the future but, so far, lined notebooks are definitely not a money maker.

    • @Lea_1113
      @Lea_1113 2 роки тому +1

      can you use the covers for other 'matching' items ie people might want a notebook and a log book and a diary with the same cover? You could create one interior for each 'other' project then you'll have 24 x 3 (or 4, 5...) extra products without having to do too much work to the existing covers ie just change the wording on the front.

    • @ComedorDelrico
      @ComedorDelrico 2 роки тому

      @@Lea_1113 You would have to change some things about the cover, such as the title. I wouldn't recommend using exactly the same cover, but you could make a "matching" cover using the same colors and some of the same decorative elements, just rearranging them in a different design and adding/subtracting some elements. A lot of people do this when they create brands.

    • @WeaselWorks
      @WeaselWorks 2 роки тому +1

      @@ComedorDelrico I think Leah was suggesting this as a way for YOU to make more from your initial effort without going to a great deal more effort. If the artwork on each cover already targets a specific demographic, then don't change a thing but the titles. Lined Notebook for Oldies welcomes Wide-Rule Lined Notebook for Oldies and Graph Paper for Oldies. You see?

    • @ComedorDelrico
      @ComedorDelrico 2 роки тому +1

      @@WeaselWorks Oh, I see what you're saying. I thought they were asking for advice. 😂 I prefer to just make new covers, as I feel using the same cover over again would cheapen my brand.

    It is amazing to me that anyone would be anything but happy with the information that you share. IMHO people don't understand the way to make anything work is to jump in and try it, fail at it, try it again, do better but still fail, take all you learn and jump in again. People don't want to do that. I watch a lot of KDP creation videos and from the comments it seems what is wanted is a cookie cutter way to make $5000 a month, some of it is the content creators fault with the ludicrous claims of mantra from the sky falling in abundance and some of it is the society that we live in now. I just have fun, ride the ride and make a few books. It ain't your fault they aren't selling it is a shark infested market. Sometimes the little fish make it and sometimes they don't.
    Thanks for the information and the time taken sir!

I followed your advice from your free ads course and, over a couple of months, I have been monitoring and tweaking the campaigns and have made around 100 sales from the ads... so they do work! Can’t thank you enough, I fell initially for the ‘make passive income videos’ even tho my area of expertise is online marketing 😅. I uploaded two crappy notebooks and thought this isn’t right. I made a colouring book which I love (took forever to get on KDP), and then created a series of 12 branded and very niche notebooks, saw one of your videos and started experimenting with ads and got my first sale 3 days after going live! May be a fluke but I can’t wait to start this journey. 🎉 thank you for your honest approach!

    I fell for the UA-cam hype and went forward with creating low-content books. I put a lot of effort into the covers using my own photography to create them. Had lots of fun and I guess I have around 60 books sitting on Amazon. My fallback was not understanding how to research a niche well first and not understanding the keywords entirely. I also did not advertise so yes I made quite a few books that have just got lost on Amazon. I purchase my books for gifts sometimes and I have been pleased with the look of each and every one. I also have sold 8 books without even trying. Maybe I might try to advertise one or two of them and see what happens.

      "Consider advertising if you sell 2 copies organically." That's a tip I heard from another channel.
      A possible indication of demand is selling any number amount without advertising.
      Take this with a grain of salt, because I am just starting out on this "low-content" journey.

    • @WeaselWorks
      @WeaselWorks 2 роки тому +2

      @@quadren4 No, you're right. If you put something out that found its way into someone's shopping cart without doing anything to advertise it, and then it happens again(!), that is a very good sign that you'll see multiple sales if you do put some ad spend behind it. Just two things to consider... First, make sure it's not your mom buying the books! And second, how long did it take to get those first two sales? The tip behind Raydog's advice to run ads and get sales as soon as possible has to do with your date of publication. You want everything about your book to look good to potential buyers - sales copy, quality of product, reviews - including, whenever possible, evidence of multiple sales in a short a period of availability as possible. "Wow! This has only been out two weeks and it already has three 5-star reviews; it's probably been purchased about 10 times!" Whereas, if it takes 6 months for you to get those two sales, and let's say neither of them give your book a review, and THEN you throw it up in ads, they're not going to be nearly as lucrative for you, because people will see it's been sitting there for 6 months with no evidence of being popular. Of course, it's not automatically a lost cause, either. Either way, good luck to you.

    Regarding the end of the video, what you describe is completely in line with Stephen Jay Gould's book Full House. As more people enter a field, the performance standard shifts and it takes so much more to stand out. The unstated truth in those pushing new trends is that it's just a newer field with so little competition that the standard hasn't shifted yet. But you seem to be pushing to perform above that shifted standard when others would look at it and decide it's not worth it because the field is "saturated".

    And I appreciate your transparency in showing the steps, especially how running Amazon Ads is an important part of this process. With ads do you know upfront how much you will be spending or are you billed at the end of the month after clicks are added up? My fear is using ads and then at the end of the month being surprised with a bill for a lot more than I was expecting to spend.

    New subscriber here! When creating the composition notebooks and regular notebooks is it ok for them to have just the lined pages or do you need to make them have some sort of design on the inside pages to stand out? I know the covers need to be different but does the inside as well? I have created a hardcover and softcover journal already, and have had no sales on them so far. It's discouraging but I have never been one quick to give up. I appreciate your honesty in this video. I learned a lot.

    • @WeaselWorks

      No, the idea for notebooks (by which I assume you mean lined paper) is generally not to have any extras on the interior pages. Stand-out cover, quality interior (with the lines being equa-distant and uniform throughout, etc.), solid sales copy on the product page, good title laden with well researched, excellent keywords, and all of that in a tight, popular sub-sub-niche. Then, run it in a couple good ads.

    Do you have any tutorials on how best to fill in the two Categories fields and the seven Keywords fields, particularly for notebooks and composition notebooks? KDP says don't repeat what's in your title and description, so what should we do?

    Nice video Chris, Thank you….
    I want to ask you about the following issue that a got recently for submitting my book to amazon KDP. Before submitting my book to KDP, it was uploaded in Draft to Digital (D2D). Now in the review process, KDP wants me to show that my book is actually my book, because they see it in KDP system (obviously because it was uploaded from D2D print) otherwise they will suspend me after 5 days. I tried to explain that I use D2D and the book that they see in KDP is from me but from another platform. Their support simply does not listen and they do not reply to me, just pointing me to the link “Kindle Direct Publishing Terms and Conditions”.
    I do not know what to do? they accuse me of violation of the copyright of my own book!!!

    Question: Why would you sell journals on Etsy as well as Amazon? Wouldn't that be competition? Also, Etsy wouldn't be print on demand like Amazon. You'd have to buy author copies to sell on Etsy, correct? Or am I missing something-- like is there a way to do print on demand books on Etsy?

    I just started my kdp journey a few months ago. After my 8th notebook, I went to go search for one of my notebooks on amazon and I saw that it was at the top of the search results, excluding the sponsor ones. Is that a good thing?

    Are running ads always essential? How soon after publishing should you be doing that?

    • @comfortakinwale9245
      @comfortakinwale9245 2 роки тому

      Some people actually do it almost immediately after publishing their book. Some do it before publishing their book.

    Some of my book's prices are not the same as in my listing. Is this normal? Should I increase the price in my listing to match? I looked and it said they have the right to change the price but they only pay royalties on my list price. Has this happened to anyone else?

    • @ComedorDelrico
      @ComedorDelrico 2 роки тому +1

      Amazon will sometimes lower your price as a promotion, but you will still get the full royalties based on the price you selected. (For example, I have a book that sells for $5.99 and I make $1.44 in royalties. Amazon temporarily lowered the price to $5.20 and I still received my full $1.44 for sales during that time.)

    One thing I don't understand and I have a question about, is how can someone say they created a book, a medium content book like you say, when they've had someone else design it, how can you claim that that is something you created when somebody else did it? that's just confusing to me, it's like presenting something that really isn't yours or that you didn't do yourself. Like when someone tells you that they have this great idea that they have and then you turn around and take their idea and claim it as your own, and then you get the accolades when it wasn't your idea to begin with.

    • @trueLuminus
      @trueLuminus 2 роки тому +3

      The person who designed the content designed it based on the creator's input. That automatically makes it the creator's design, not the person who was hired to design it. If that were the case, no movie studio could claim that they ever made a movie. The design ONLY exists due to the creator's input.
