I like the way you're perfectly setup to do a profound review. Honestly speaking I could never do like you. Truly it's kind of a good to know information for me. Thank you somuch.
Also it eats up slightly more RAM and with only 2GB's RAM becomes pretty tight. I would like to see a model with 4GB's and a better CPU but then it wouldn't be cheap...
@@voiceofreason9258 Good to know. But seems like this is a limitation of Windows. I didn't think this was an issue as I did install 64 bit Linux on several of these 32 bit EFI devices. We do have to use 32 bit grub but 64 bit Linux itself runs fine
@@bharathghanta I tried it with Windows 10 64bit after the Windows install had gone corrupt. It went into a boot loop, so I booted to the EFI and tried to run setup from there and It came up with an error message something to the effect of: "can not run 64bit EFI on this 32bit EFI system" I don't remember the exact wording. I had to make a Windows 32bit install disk in order to re-install Windows. - Then I had to look all over the internet for drivers since the manufacture doesn't make themselves known and has no support page. I managed to get ahold of them in China a while ago and they were more eager to sell a new product than to fix an old one. The one I had in my possession was a friend's that needed a lot of the solder re-flowed to repair the audio and SD card slot. They are not ventilated well and are susceptible to expansion stress on the solder joints.
Thanks for the vid. Saved me from breaking it when I wanted to take it apart. The fan started making some odd noises. When I took it apart, it was silent as a mouse...until about an hour later. Fan is going out. I ordered a pair of 40mm x 40 x 10 replacement fans. Amazon AB4010M12 for the units I got. When they arrived, they looked like they would work, except the units I received were a little too tall to fit the shorter screws. I had some longer screws that did the job. The screws actually thread into the chip's heat sync. I got some longer screws and plopped it on. Second problem was the connector to the board had a different spacing that didn't line up with the new fan connecter. Thankfully you can pull off the piece from the board exposing the connectors that protrude upward. Piece fit them perfectly. I've had this for almost 2 years now, and it runs a weather station with a USB base station perfectly and with low power. The motherboard sure looks a lot like the Raspberry Pi stuff I own now. I'm pretty much on board with the review. I wasn't expecting miracles for 59 bucks, but with Win 10 on it, it makes it worth it if I want to use the serial on something else when this unit bites the dust.
Good review. I have to say that I watched you whole video using my Vensmile i10 which is the same as the Mini PC you critiqued, in 1080p 60 with no dropout or stutters. Play perfectly smooth.
Thanks for the review. I now know some of the basic capabilities of this device. I could find a use for such a device but as of now I have no use for it. If only it had more storage options, but they are built to a cost. As a side note, I have no idea wtf some of these folks are talking about, you seemed to be very mellow in your review. I can only assume that these guys work for the company that makes or sells these devices.
I have one of these as a hobby repair project. It does not boot. The test pad signal to the processor shows the CPU getting the signal to start, but then goes into reset. Any ideas what might cause this? I already replaced the CPU, and RAM (put the faster Atom CPU on it and fixed some corroded solder pads under the first RAM chip) but I still get the same problem. Blue light is on, no video, CPU goes into reset repeatedly. Can't find any info on this board and the manufacturer gave me the runaround when I asked about the board schematic - trying to get me to buy a TV box instead.
That Bay Trail chip is surprisingly a capable chip. I recently bought a cheap Lenovo 2-in-1 with that same SOC just to replicate my main PC screen through remote desktop but I ended up using it natively because the system is very responsive for the tasks I do.
Hello I have a problem with bios. Not means to navigate the menu bios in USB, and the USB does not work any more. Would have about the dump of bios optimized defaults. For flash thanks
Fun video, I was considering getting a PC like this for an HTPC but as you showed and as I thought it doesn't quite have the horsepower to do so. I actually LOL'd when you threw the sticker on. Thumbs Up from me.
I bought this computer 5 years ago and had it set up to run Kodi. It worked fairly well but I wasn't aiming for HD. I still have it and am planning to repurpose it to run a Home Assistant server.
Great vid mate. I've just come from Techsmartt's review of this and by comparison your vid is only about a million times better. Don't watch his please, it'll give you nightmares. Thinking of getting one of these for Dad as he loves writing and this'll be great as a glorified word processor. Anyway, informative vid and Loved the wireshark capture as well. Cheers
The features it has are informed by the standard kit that comes with the Atom Bay Trail. It's basically an Atom Z3735F tablet without the screen and battery components which is why it has a camera. Which is also why it has 32bit Windows, it has a 32bit UEFI so you can't install 64bit Windows.
Great review! Like how you went the extra mile with the network monitoring and the like. Obviously some people have issues with the pessimistic attitude you had, but I like the fact that it's not watered down with marketting words and shit to make it seem nicer than it is, and you complimented it on its pros. At the end of the day, you were right to be that way. It was a shitty PC, even taking into account it is a mini PC. Many better options, but none really as aesthetically pleasing.
Good video, subbed. You should have quickly noted temps after benchmark. Of note is that you can get an Intel compute stick (made by intel) with the same processor, storage, and ram, for less money.
Just so you know most stick/tablet pc's ask for a key. it's in the bios. most of the time once online just actevate it. genrily it pulls the key from the bios then if not it may be listed in one of the bios pages or in the eufi config
Thank you for your fair open-minded and unbiased review. (Good grief!) It was kinda fun watching you eat crow at the end there LOL. If you'd kept your opinions and preconceptions to yourself this would have been a fine teardown.
Could you test power consumption in idle and under load please? Also: Did you try installing Linux on this thing? I think it might make for a capable and power efficient router, with a distribution like IPFire on it...
Like the Apple Mac Pro, the vertical design of the chassis allows for a chimney effect for cooling. Other than the CPU, none of the other components create much heat. The power supply probably makes more heat than the CPU. The air is drawn upwards entering from the smallish holes at the bottom, and vent out the top.
it's true for a full computer with a 500w tdp as you sad but this mini pc has a tdp of about 10 watts so it doesn't need that much cooling. the little fan is enough. so the cylinder shape is just for design
Not a bad price for a decent little single board computer in an aluminium case... The only real drawback I see is lack of support. Thanks for the video.
great vid - thanks for it and all: I wonder does the pi fit in there - it seem to be too small for anything but I fancy it anyway - this vid was very usefull for me and I am happy with this - EnjoyLife!
I got this G2 few months ago. Does anyone notice the picture from the webcam is actually upside down? I tried search Google but no solution found. Appreciate if someone here can help.
Thorough. I like that you checked the outgoing network messages on first startup. It would be nice to see video of you finding examples of nefarious network activity to see what your toughbox does in such a case. Curious! Sub'd from Oakland CA
Oh, and the reason these Bay Trail devices (usually tablets) come with 32-bit WIndows is that it uses less disk space an RAM. Also they often come with a 32-bit UEFI and some of those have a hard time booting into 64-bit operating systems.
I think the only application I can immediately think of for this would be to plug in an external hard drive and use it for torrents. It's low power, so leaving it on all day to collect data would be ok. It might also be a good computer for an older user that only uses social media and reads the news. Chrome might be better optimized for UA-cam, so that may have made the viewing experience better.

did you had any problems with sound when you connected it to the tv through hdmi?
The camera is a nice addition for video calling, but it does look like its in an awkward place, even if it was on a desk

Hi, great review. What;s the link to the NASA UHD videos?
Cheers
Is it not 32bit because it has a 32bit uefi boot-loader irrespective of the 64bit processor?
Would this thing be able to run the Raspberry Pi OS?
Why not install HWMonitor to see the actual temps of the CPU and GPU in real time?
I got this G2 few months ago. Does anyone notice the picture from the webcam is actually upside down? I tried search Google but no solution found.
Appreciate if someone here can help.
Why not a Cherry Trail Atom X7 ?
Baytrail is quite outdated already and too slow for everyday usage.
its always a good idea to see how a chinese device will behave on a network first, instead of just bringing it online on your home network though.
thanks you for running wire shark. I was very suspicious of the front camera.
do you think I can use it to record with egato game capture
you just forgot to show the camera view of this... i just wana see how good or bad it is :D

where can you get a network tap for wired ethernet cause if it works i would use an raspberry pi for it
Intel chips always look amazing. No matter what product they're working on.
I'm impressed that you used Wireshark in your review. Thanks!
Oh, and the reason these Bay Trail devices (usually tablets) come with 32-bit WIndows is that it uses less disk space an RAM. Also they often come with a 32-bit UEFI and some of those have a hard time booting into 64-bit operating systems.
if i would wanna buy this this video would be great! keep up the good work!
hey when you are done with this thing could i have it to turn into a coffee mug
Then where else would you have the camera?
how about a larger heat sink you can get one from a north or southbridge off an ATX mobo
I think the only application I can immediately think of for this would be to plug in an external hard drive and use it for torrents. It's low power, so leaving it on all day to collect data would be ok. It might also be a good computer for an older user that only uses social media and reads the news. Hey Scott, can you help me? i have the same mini PC and i want to reinstall windows 10.
Hello, I recommend bouncing a USB with windows 10 mini OS 32bits, it will be much better for you.
To that if the drivers are somewhat difficult to find.
Do you know the size of the motherboard??
32 bit OS choice may be due to the uefi bios only supporting 32bit, some like the asus t100 only support 32 bit.
That image with the fan placing made my laugh... im such a geek
yes candy crush saga comes with every windows 10 by default I have w10 Pro so I'm 100% sure
Great video. Just what I was looking for.
Do you recommend for people buy this thing??
Why are you using Firefox for youtube? Other people use Edge and it works.
edge is terrible in my opinion
You should have used Microsoft Edge for full screen HD and Full HD videos. I have a tablet with the same processor and it runs just fine on it (1280x800 resolution, though, so at least 720p60 plays well)
this was a cool vid, really indepth, well made
I like this form factor, just the guts need to be a little more beefier. I'd actually buy one that could do full screen video, use as a hometheater pc
honestly one of these with a large panda windows ten would be fantastic
get the intel compute stick then
They have the same Atom chip I think.
In other parts of america people also use the european standard plug or is it just a "north thing" among canadians, unitedstateans and mexicans?
if you're talking about Type C (the plug on the included power brick) vs. Type A&B regular 2 and 3 pronged plugs then no I think thats just a "north thing".
It would probably make an okay thinclient, that is if the bios supports PXE booting.
Wow, I've never had someone take me from liking them and enjoying what they have to say, to hating them so fast, 1.8 seconds. that's some sort of new record.
On Topic: The motherboard is actually a fairly common board Chinese manufacturers like to buy.

Samsung has a cylinder CPU that pretty cool. Expensive to boot, pun not intended.
burly636 I don't get it

dude your late, if this is the first cylinder computer, why you showing video 5 years after the ,ac pro cylinder was released?
