    I'm in Tampa, FL and I have a laundry basket tower it's still in the 90's here but not everyday or all day. So far they are doing great. I bought every bearing bareroot and they took root very quickly. It's hurricane season so lots of rain. I'm hoping to have harvest Nov. Thru April!

    We thought our 8 + year old June strawberry plant was done but we had some this year! We bought the strawberry planter back when we lived in a basement apart flat in the UK. Moving to the house, it wasn't a priority due to high renovation needed to the property and a newborn!
    I would always feel guilty seeing the baby runners but would always run out of time to save them. With focusing on Covid and the "new" bedding area, the strawberry planter pot didn't get the attention it deserved. We did buy a second strawberry planter pot but it didn't do well. We had leaves this year but a wild corriander decided to live there.
    This year the old gal gave us a handful of good strawberries and produced babies. I decided, with my new bedding schedule to focus on it as the weather has been so poor this year, not many succeeded this year. I already fed through the first babies in July into the middle and some open parts and they loved it!
    I now have the trail babies in starter pots.
    I built the 3 tier wormery from Kevin (Epic Gardeners) video back in jan/feb. I collected the red wrigglers and tiger striped ones from the garden. Must have got about 10 -20. A lot of worm youtube videos later, we have two small crates of red worms to the point where i can supply my composter with them and not just leaving it to slugs and snails (i don't like them on the plants but just can't bear to kill them so they live in the plastic "dalek" composter).
    My wormery is smaller and cheaper than the video but we improvised by placing a small mdf old kitchen wall from the refurb as a lid. If it is outside we keep it on to keep out mice, rats, flies and ants.
    Inside lid is off unless there are wet products like weather torn tomatoes....
    Story of this year, thank heavens for our potted "spares". (my dad feeds the birds with seeds in non recyclable transparent containers - me not liking this replanted our spares or the "thinned out" ones. Crap clay left over soil but not ill from this years storms!) I have re purposed the containers for toys and planting. When we had the heat wave they collected the water but didn't realise that we would have such a wet and stormy summer. They were useful in emptying the tarp over the sand pit and nearby weed pot when gardening. This unrecyclable plastic needs a purpose. Looking forward to when my dad transfers to the bags of seed we used. We use these as rubble bags.
    We are year 4 of gardening.
    At the back of the garden there is a fence 95 inches/ 240 cm deep probably 4 x the width. When we moved in it was over 6ft high of garden waste in plastic bags!!! We got a skip and found lots of old bottles, mummified rat, which we kept for a while and called him roger before we could re bury him. RIP. We now have a small shed, Wendy house and a place for tools, pots and bbq. The rest is for the bird sanctuary of Chaffinches.
    Of the 3 trees wrapped in bind weed and ivy we saved two but then two neighbours killed off the second also also destroyed some other trees (two also in our garden) that l liked the oxygen from.... On my birthday too. I cried for the nesting birds...
    A lovely sound this evening as the little birds are back are back to get ready for winter.
    Our robin is skinny af! Chaffinches are back in the Lilac tree sanctuary. Sparrows are wondering where their home went next door. Our hedges of berries and the seed table will hopefully remind them that it is safe here. Hopefully the new "loud house" neighbours don't scare them off after removing their homes.
    Anyway, I still haven't managed to redden of our green tomatoes. They just get mouldy or shrivled up. After 2020 no seed delay and big planning for this year. I am left feel down from the storms, winds and flooding. In the UK now, we now have stable weather but it's cloudy.... smh
    At the beginning of the year i installed an overflow water butt for the draught..... Are we expecting an "indian summer" and a dry winter now?

    This was so informative. I'm actually growing seascape strawberries and noticed she has a lot of runners. Since I absolutely love this verify I will definitely take advantage of those runners. I love the hair pin tip. When it comes to fertilizer I've been using Espoma for berries. Thus far, Ive had a lot of strawberries 🍓 for our family.
    Side note; by chance what ever happened with your grapevine and cattle panel concept. Did that work for you guys? I live here in Beaumont, Ca it's extremely windy so I'm a bit nervous to go that route, but they finally provided fruit last year and noticed the vines are producing little grapes. This year the weather has been a little cooler but I'm not complaining. Thanks again!

    My strawberries flour and they fruit but the fruit gets up to the size of a pencil eraser roughly and then dries up turns brown any idea what causes that. The plants have water and lush green foliage.

    Hi just started gardening again after the tragic loss of our youngest & only Daughter April ann Ulrich age 19
    She had just Graduated High School 5 months earlier an its a long story but from medical negligence Nov 26, 2014 .
    A mother's grief never ends when it's your child ,
    I'm so glad I found you & your great content ,
    I do live in Montgomery County, Texas so it gets very hot & humid here also ,but it's very therapeutic for me as April & I always gardened even our much older Sons learned early on how to garden.
    We purchased 2 different peach trees 2 blackberry & 2 blueberry from fast growing trees. Com they guarantee even if my fault .
    Just wondering where you suggest getting the 3 types of strawberries please ??
    I've done great my 1st season
    Tomatoes , sweet green peppers , Serrano hot peppers 🌶 for my oldest son he is 37
    Zucchini, green beans ( didn't really produce but 2 beans ) where my green peppers I already have 17 in freezer plus alot more still growing , okra , pumpkins 2 different kinds with my youngest 2 granddaughters I'm teaching to garden as I know their Auntie April would want me too ...they are 9 & 8 .
    Plus with the price of potatoes
    I watched alot of videos about fingerlings, an planted them with the eyes pointed up , I'm also gonna plant some in pots ,I have land so I can plant in soil or containers , being 56 next month September 21st ...and all my health & grief issues I started in pots ,but the pumpkins 🎃 & potatoes & some okra in ground .
    My amazing husband & sons are gonna build me above ground beds for as I get older ,I won't have to be on my knees , bad back 5 surgeries with fusion , God bless you and I like ur very calming voice as well as the other gardener I'm subbed to .he is great also ....
    Thank u for such great content I will be binge watching on my hard days & nights ...I learned alot just in this video about 3 different kinds , also purchasing several orange 🍊 trees an trying to root a piece of fig tree we got from a neibors....be safe .
    Josette Tharp....

      I’m sorry for the loss of your daughter. I cannot even imagine your grief. It’s good for you to stay busy in the garden. My sister lost her son and she found some great groups on Facebook for parents that are grieving. She has met so many wonderful people and I have to say that it has helped her a great deal. Just take it one day at a time and remember that it’s okay if you have a bad day and tomorrow may be better.

    Hi Kim I am growing a small section of strawberries in my garden but I don't know what variety. They grow and produce spring, summer and fall. They are delicious! They do produce a lot of new runners. Can I just cut the extra runners off?

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  3 роки тому

      Hi Sharon, sounds like a winning variety! You'll have better luck rooting the runners if you leave them connected to the mother plant. If you don't want to root the runners, sure, just cut them off. Thx for stopping by!

    I have some that are either everbearing or day neutral... I don't know the exact variety because I bought them from the local farmers market years ago... They start producing in May and continue to produce until late fall here in Michigan, but for some reason they are not growing runners this year! I was about to make a strawberry tower for indoors with the runners, but now I have to grow some from seed for the tower... What kind would you suggest, and do you carry any in your online shop?🍉🍉🍉

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  3 роки тому

      Hello Garden Witch - those sound like great berries! Some years mine produce more runners than other years. Also keep in mind that production/growth usually declines after 3-4 years. I don't carry strawberry seeds in my seed shop, do some research to see which varieties grow well in your area. Thanks for watching!

      @@CaliKim29 thanks for the info... They are about 3 or 4 yrs old... They have lots of berries but not runners, so maybe they are just getting old . They look really healthy. On the bright side, at least if I start from scratch I won't be bringing bugs in from outside. I'm starting to work on my indoor winter garden already because sometimes it gets cold early around here but gardening is so relaxing and great for stress relief as well as being a creative outlet. I don't know what I would do with no garden all winter!

      Hard to tell without seeing a photo, Deborah. Either way, prune affected leaves, give a good feeding and they should bounce back - Strawberries are very resilient. Thanks for watching!

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  3 роки тому

      Hi Susan, some varieties grow more runners than others, or will grow them at different times of the year. Make sure you're fertilizing containers every 2 weeks or so, once a month if you're growing them in ground. Watch my video on how to feed your container plants and what to feed them with for all the details, bit.ly/CaliKimContainerGardenMidSeasonBoost. Enjoy your strawberries and thanks for watching!

    I have no clue what kind i have. Thry are red. Onenpot full of plants hasnt grown morr the two flowers or so and another of same kinds is growing about 40 at a time. They have same soil, same nutrition and same plant. I guess ill just throw em all away that are not flowering. Because im doingnthe ssmenthing to the olants that are. Same area and everything is identical. I guess theres no way to actually findnout why they refuse to grow. Sad. I have to toss about 20 plants to the compost bin. Because the just dont flower ever.

      @CaliKim29  Рік тому

      If it's a first year, fertilize regularly. If it's too hot they will not flower over 85 degrees. Last, they may not flower their first year. Don't throw them away. Kim
