Honestly, while going through the fan wiki for fun, I read about Karate Joe and his Father, who MAKES JOE LIVE IN THE BASEMENT AND WON'T LET HIM MOVE OUT UNTIL HE BECOMES A KARATE PRO, USED THE SOCCER BALL HE BOUGHT AS A PUNCHING BAG, AND THROWS LIVE BOMBS AT HIS SON, WHO DIDN'T THINK/KNOW THEY WERE REAL.
He may be a master of Karate, but not parenting, and if the relationship hinted at in the superb art of Karate Man 2 (Rhythm Heaven Fever) ever goes anywhere, I hope Karate Joe doesn't take after his old man in that aspect.

Just imagined here a scene (sorry for any grammar mistakes, english is my second language):
Joe was outside training soccer because his dad wasn't home, but then his dad arrived earlier than usual that day and saw Joe there playing soccer
He was angry, so he put Joe inside the car and drove to the training place, it was snowing and Joe was sad because he lied to his dad about the training, he just wanted to play soccer and not train Karate. But his father started throwing piles and piles of flower pots and barrels for him to punch and kick
But of course, since Joe kept training soccer instead of Karate he couldn't do it and sometimes got so confused with all the objects thrown at him he'd fall on the floor because he couldn't concentrate. Of course he would stand up again but he was too sad to even try to punch and kick (sometimes he tried but he would just fall on the floor because of confusion), but his father wouldn't stop throwing everything at him
