Really excited that you liked this one Alex! Hopefully the SHIFT System will keep you coming back. Also - wondering if you found any secret/hidden content yet? Like, besides the SHIFT System stuff...have you found new cards?!???!???
@@BoardGameCo Also - the app is out now, but currently just the training mission. It's pretty cool that you can play against an AI opponent! We're hoping by end of year or so to have the full game ready!
Just wanted to note that I prefer to play without the stands for the characters, and instead lay them down flat. After a character has performed their action for the turn I flip them to their backside which helps me remember which characters have already been used. That function is more important than you might think since only two characters move between each turn for the recruiter and after they do, the two characters who haven't already had a turn must do so.
Did you notice that the app now has the full version implemented, because for me it has turned Mind MGMT into a top tier solo game, and makes it a stronger co op as well, especially if you want to play it 2 player without having it turn into a silent duel. The only long term drawback is if the app won't have all the shift packages added. Currently there are like 9, some of which are exclusive to the app.
Wow! I did NOT see that 5 out of 5 coming! :o Makes me sad I didn’t back!.. Oh well. It’s been on my wishlist for a while now, waiting on restock on my local store. Great review! Consolidated my confidence on acquiring this piece. Thank you, Alex! :)
@@BoardGameCo I’m doing exactly the same, but I’m having a hard time finding it. I guess people want to keep their deluxe copy… Definitely a good sign though! xD
I was under the impression from the rulebook that the hint tokens were intentionally limited to 15 as a way to reduce the amount of info the agents can record.
Absolutely yes. At the same time, that starts to move it a little out of the domain of a logic game and into the domain of a memory game, which speaking for myself is not my preference.
Yeah totally appreciate that point of view. Great job on the vid. Watching this and the playthroughs on the Quackalope channel have convinced me to jump on the current reprint Kickstarter.
Got this one coming my way, Foster the Meeple and Tablenauts are all about this one too, so good to know yall loved it as well! This theme is easier to get on board with compared to Whitehall/Whitechappel
This is one of my KS regrets in not backing it. Found a place in Canada that had a few Deluxe editions in stock, so ordered a copy, since Canadians can't buy them from Off The Page Games (yet?).
My favorite hidden movement games are fury of dracula and letters from whitechapel both have amazing themes....I would like to have a cthulhu themed hidden movement game though
I was expecting this video!! One of the best game i played this year. So happy i backed it on KS. Shift system is great addition to the mechanism. I only played a-two-player game, Loved it. Art is subjective but it was the other factors that pushed me to back it.
Your bird colleagues alerted me to this so I was able to get the deluxe version for way too much money from Greece (2,5 times retail with shipping), but glad I did 😁 now don't get rid of it for at least 5 years 😝
@@BoardGameCo I'd love to hear your thoughts on Letters from Whitechapel compared to both Beast and Mind MGMT when you eventually do a Play This, Not That (perhaps a head to head to head comparison, like when you did Endless Winter vs Arnak vs Dune)
@@JosephDeRubeis agreed, I’d like to see this comparison also. I really enjoy Letters from Whitechapel and am keen to pick up Beast when it gets to retail. I’m not sure I’m sold on the Mind MGMT look.
Do you think if you had a second board to track theories it would change the win %? You said right now the win % is pretty even. Do you think a second tracking board for rogue agents would shift the win % in their favor?
I would be very interested in hearing your Top10 (or 5 or whatever) deduction games. Meaning logical deduction games (Cryptid, Awkward Guests, Search for Planet X, etc.), not the social kind (Resistance, Werewolf, Deception, etc.). Is it something you feel like making? It looks like you enjoy this kind of games. Not necessarily with hidden-movement, although that's fine.
2:22 - "... by putting down a footprint token on any one pool that they haven't visited already." This is incorrect; you place a footprint token on a feature you HAVE visited already, but that does not yet already have a footprint token. This is very clear in the rulebook and the accompanying example.
Love the video, but I disagree with your critique on not having enough tokens to track the recruiter. From the games I've played, it's way more than enough to deduce where the recruiter has been. The 15 tokens is just enough before the recruiter wins and the examples of how to use them in the rulebook are the most efficient way in using them.
This game would benefit from 3d printed pieces. That way you could switch out the immortals when the skulls are in play. The double sided tokens are confusing.
Much better in my opinion, Specter Ops was always fun....but never felt quite as constantly close. It was more about playing for 90 minutes and having some epic moments in there.
Please stop hyping up beast Alex - that game has so many problems… honestly not sure how you missed them in your play-throughs of it. At the very least, wouldn’t you say that beast is a partial hidden movement game? Which is to say, the beast is only meant to hide for part of the time, and has to reveal itself to gain any xp. There is always a lot of information about where the beast is. I wouldn’t play it again, found the gameplay very dull - gorgeous art though!
You're absolutely welcome to your opinion. But so am I. As far as the partially hidden, I agree, and that's one of the things I liked about it. One of my problems with hidden movement is exactly the idea that sometimes you can feel too lost for half the game and it's only fun when you feel like it's close. Beast always feels like it's close because even if you lose track, eventually it has to pop up. And it works really well for that. Mind mgmt manages to feel close as well, but through a totally different mechanism. Where is playing other hidden movement games, I've had both amazing experiences and games that just weren't fun.
Really excited that you liked this one Alex! Hopefully the SHIFT System will keep you coming back. Also - wondering if you found any secret/hidden content yet? Like, besides the SHIFT System stuff...have you found new cards?!???!???
Hmmm....past the basic shift packages and what's inside them...not yet....but you have my attention.

I tried to tell everyone from the rooftops. Some of the abilities that are add make this game crazy and intense...I have a review coming too
It's sooooo good!!
Been waiting to hear your thoughts on this one. I love it dearly!
It's excellent! Let's play when you're here!
I backed this purely based on my love for the comics. Haven’t been able to crack into it yet. So glad its good.
It's ridiculously good.

It's such a great game, I totally miscalled this one, I passed on it when it was on Kickstarter and now I'm hunting down the deluxe.

100% agreed on theme. The theme of the others doesn't really bother me, but I admit it's distasteful so this is refreshing.
Jeez, it's under the Christmas tree but after your review, it will be very hard to Wait. Sneaking in the night maybe!😄
Lol fair enough

I'd love to see a Beast vs Mind MGMT video!
It will happen, but when I'm comparing final to final :) For now know that I don't want either one leaving my collection.

My sister 100% wants her own tracking board for the Rogue Agents.
Not that much, right now I track everything anyway, it's just more annoying to do so.
On BGG you can download the map and print 1 and put it into a sleeve to use the dry erase markers on.

Any comparison to Fury of Dracula? That is one hidden movement that sounds somewhat similar but no combat once found.

Apologies, I misspoke, but yes, we've been playing correctly....or the game wouldn't work :)

We're likely using the tokens in more ways :)

Do you like this one more than Beast?
It's close enough that I'm unwilling to answer that question until I play the final version of Beast

Yes!
My collection is missing a hidden movement game, but it is so hard to decide between this and The Beast. Any help @BoardGameCo?
Both are amazing, you can't go wrong.
Eh, I can't find it anywhere in Europe, I've been trying for the last week to buy it :(
Sorry :(
I want the deluxe version too but offthepagegames doesn’t ship to canada. “Stuck” with the retail version i guess. Lol

How does this compare to the game nuns on the run? Feels pretty similar
Never actually played that one.
How does this compare to something like Scotland Yard? Similar in playstyle?

Right now? Either Mind MGMT or Beast. Mind MGMT is better now, but Beast they made the changes I wanted....so it's too close to call for now.
