  • Developing the Rybakov Multi-Band non-resonant antenna into an even more convenient way to deploy it. This time, no ground radials and using the car as a ground/earth.
    Takes less than 5 minutes to deploy

    Always impressed how well the car's body works as a counterpoise just by capacitive coupling and without an actual electrical connection. Nice 👍 73 Leo

    Thanks mate, good show, from Stephen. FOO is currently in Unseo Incheon Sth Korea portable rooftop 14th floor FT-891 & same deal 4:1 - wire strapped to spiderpole and earthed to buildings rooftop earth piping. Air Quality Index 149 today :( got the mask on, cough cough Great job with the vids mate. Rocking a HL2/ prefix for now in the ROK.

    Thanks Tim for presenting this application of the Rybakov. I’ve been using it for some time even on 80 meters (L configuration with a 53’ radiator which the Rybakov inventor suggested to me). I look forward to trying your iteration.73 N4LWT

    Fantastic. Looks like the tuner did well with car for the ground too. It's been a couple weeks since I used the Rybakov--I need to take it out again. 73

    Got to admit... got my mind working overtime now... loving the idea of using the mag mount.. going to try my 9:1 unun and 33ft wire at the caravan using the mag on the car as ground.... cheers Tim.. 73 M6LBI

      Surely a 33ft wire would be a half wave on 20m and thus would need a 49:1 transformer?

    • @IansAnglesey
      @IansAnglesey Рік тому +1

      @paulsengupta971 after 40m... 1/4 wave is 33ft .. the one I use at home is that and works quite well... although for reasons I'm not sure of it tunes up on 80m too...!?!?! Ah well... suppose it works lol

      @@IansAnglesey Ah. I'd have have thought a 1:1 would be the best bet for a quarter wave. Same as a dipole centre. But that wouldn't work for 80m, whereas the 9:1 probably will!

    • @timg5tm941
      @timg5tm941  Рік тому +1

      A 9:1 would probably still reduce the impedance down to matchable levels. Where a 9:1 can be an issue is with lengths of lower Z such as 1/4 or 3/4 wavelengths

    I like all your antenna tests. It would be a lot more interesting to have a hamstick on a boot mount to compare to. We have no reference antenna to compare to. An antenna switch to do A/B comparisons would tell us all we need to know. Anytime I see an antenna test on a YT video I am usually let down. The reviewer rarely has a reference antenna. A dipole, inverted V, or even a vertical would be fine. In this case a hamstick would be a good comparison.

    • @jamess1787
      @jamess1787 Рік тому

      Hamsticks have high-Q, so low bandwidth. You can do it and it works, but you have to constantly tune multiple times per band to work stations. 👍.
      You end up spending more time fussing with the antenna than making QSO's.

      @@jamess1787 Sure a hamstick is not Ideal but I normally only operate in the bottom 50-75 kHz of each band (CW or a little FT8) . a hamstick will often beat out all the fancy screwdriver antennas and other expensive gear. For 25 USD it is hard to beat. Trying a hamstick on 80 meters is a joke, 40 meters sort of works. on 10,15,20 the hamsticks really shine.

      20m and up are pretty low Q and broad banded

    • @jamess1787
      @jamess1787 Рік тому

      @@xv9dl yeah if you're working CW on those bands, then you're probably OK. Im only SSB and it makes it a PITA to make contacts.
      I love my "hamsticks" but it's really annoying every 20KHz to have to retune the antenna (or vswr of like 10+)

    What if use 5m telescopic whip and sort of coil at the bottom to compensate the length then in to 4:1 ? At least no need for a fishing rod?

    • @timg5tm941

      No sense in adding an inductor AND an impedance transformer. If I had to alter this antenna I would feed the wire directly int a remote tuner. 73

    What is actually the Diffference between the LDG RU 4:1 and the RBA 4:1 Balun ?

    • @leobismarck
      @leobismarck Рік тому +1

      I believe one is an Unun and the other a Balun. The Rybakov should require an Unun (Coax to unbalanced antenna system). 73 Leo
