LOVE Darth Vader tie fighter, was always one of my favorite tie's, along with the original white one. I still remember having mine set on my top shelf in my closet, you bring back great memories Toy Polloi. I find myself now looking for old beat up star wars toys to try and repair myself.

Lego comes in very useful.
For repairing broken mechanisms which endure a lot of stress, might I suggest PVC pipe joint compound/cement? Applied properly, it's A LOT stronger than super glue.
Also, try blending salt with white vinegar to remove battery corrosion from copper. You'll get better results.

I never knew they actually did a Vader TIE fighter. I made one out of wood and card as a kid. It didn't look great but it had the shape!
Superglue is good, but for the harder plastics used in toys (Polystyrene, Acrylic, Perspex, Butyrate, etc.) may I suggest you try a liquid cement like 'Plastic Weld', or 'Mek-Pak'. You only need tiny amounts, and they flow into cracks, even miniscule ones. The repair is usually as strong as the surrounding plastic. It's usually applied with a small paintbrush, and bonds almost instantly. I find it's great for hard to reach places. If you want a really strong bond, you can brush it on (in tiny amounts), and it will actually weld the joint shut. It's the only plastic adhesive I use. It evaporates quickly, but if the bottle is kept shut tight, it will last months. It will bond different types of plastic together well, too, but not Nylon, PVC, Polypropylene, or Polythene.
For ABS plastics I swear by Methyl Ethyl Ketone. Its nasty stuff but man does it weld ABS.

Something I've discovered since I've started 3D printing is that ABS plastic, which is what Lego is made of, can be chemically welded together with acetone. If the plastic Kenner used is ABS as well, using this technic would make any repairs incredibly strong. Could be worth doing a text if you have a piece of an old ship lying around.

I found that a good product to have is "zipper lubricant" for plastic parts that rub against one another. For example, the seat that rises up and down.
Sounds good. Do you know what it is made of? If it is petrol based it could damage the plastic over time. So worth checking.
That's interesting. I never noticed that the vintage Vader's tie is just a regular tie fighter cockpit pretty much. Where as the potf2 Vader's tie fighter is more movie accurate.
Could you drill a hole straight through to the other side and slide the post all the way through? Possibly stronger? Or will it be in the way?

Curious. In the UK was Vader's TIE just a regular TIE with Vader specific wing panels? The TIE I own has a totally different boby/fuselage.
Yours is a much later model. The original was like this, in the USA also.

Same size as the Lego which if I remember correctly is 3mm.
Do you know, you can clean electric contacts by rubbing (coloring) them with a number two pencil.
Don't do that. Turn the pencil around and use the eraser to clean the contacts.
Hi, late comment on this vid but using it as reference for one im repairing. My question is, can you use parts from the tie fighters released in 1995 to repair the vintage line?
You can, but they are a different color. Same moulds were used on most parts. Wings have the sticker details moulded into them now.
Just curious, how would you restore one like this? like to bring back the color, I got one from ebay and it`s a bit stained.

Sir, I've got an original 1978 white Tie Fighter by Kenner. Over the years, I've lost the battery contact springs. Any suggestions on where to get a replacement?
Buy a small battery holder and take the springs from that.
