If you ride rim brakes in the rain, you get them contaminated with oil and other nasties from the road, also be careful when cleaning/oiling your bike. I replace my rim brake blocks every 6 months minimum. Look after your brakes and they will look after you.😀
Rim brakes in the rain are no fun at all. I never push it in the wet, and least of all on rim brakes. Gotta get used to having no response for the first second or two when using rim brakes in the wet. In the dry they should work well tho.
Strange camber, decreasing radius, and a really hard approach due to the prior corners. Oh yeah and a car might be coming the other way but now way to know 😅
Beautiful! You feel as if you're really there, even when watching while having lunch. Too excited to get motion sickness. Thanks for sharing another superb video Safa. 👍🏼🤗
Agree! lived in Zurich, CH area and Copenhagen, DK and currently live in greater Malibu area. I have to say for year round cycling the Santa Monica Mountains CA area (where this ride was recorded) has a great mix of mountains, smooth roads, flats sections with shoulders if need to stop. In the winter its common to run into pro teams and riders getting in the miles for base (e.g. I read that Chris Froome was here this past winter, and Geraint Thomas last year) . I like road cycling here more than in Switzerland bc in Switzerland, the car drivers get angry if riders arent in single file (the law) and will cut close to cyclists to scare them or honk horns when on your rear wheel. It takes the fun out of group rides for the 3-4 months when the weather is good enough to ride. Here, just as many if not more cyclists on the road, less road rage from cars, and can ride 12 months of the year with the hottest month only averaging 80F for highs with low humidity
@@jpslayermayor9293 I agree almost entirely, except it was 95+ degrees just a few days ago in the Samo mountains. You should follow all road laws (like staying in the lane, not crossing over the double yellow and riding single-file in small groups) if you value your life. Even in California.
Please give allowance to each other, also stay on your line coz I noticed that you're all overshooting. Accidents are surprises and it's just taking seconds. BTW i love that descent. Slow down on curves, stay alert and safe!
nothing wrong with Chinese, just recommend ‘aluminum rims’ 700c x 23mm and rim brakes. Don’t believe the marketing hype…would love to know the frequency/wear of the disc brakes Safa and others like him have. Horses 🐴 for courses. Keep pedaling
It’s a Scott Addict RC at the end of the vid. Amazing bike, I ride the Addict RC 20 2020 model. On descents I occasionally have to remind myself I’m only wearing Lycra and feel like my helmet is wearing me for safety.👍🏿😆
@@artlee3573 yes they are, mine was $7000au. It is an upgrade from an Avanti Corsa Pro that I’ve been riding for 20 years. The Scott is my 3rd and final bike now as I’m at an age where I finally have a little disposable income. So I thought that I’d treat myself. It’s definitely a weapon and a lot of fun.👍🏿
Hey Safa ! Im really big fan of your vids and i always wonder how in the hell your chest cam looks so steady considering you're hitting full sus trails, is there any device you can recommend to me ? Sorry for my broken english and thanks in advance
Hi @SafaBrian what software are you using to edit your videos with km/mph and wattage displayed? I've tried adding Go Pro stickers but like the interface of yours much better.
I start following your page and iv decided im flying in from america from Ireland in a month or two, and going to do one of your routes, would any of yous know of a good forums or clubs to see if any locals would like to join us
do you ever descent on the hoods? my neck feels too locked in position in the drops and I like getting my upper body more into the inside of the corner to keep the bike itself more upright.
The risk of descending in the hoods is braking too fast and losing grip... Hands go flying, you go flying. In the drops your hands aren't going anywhere.
@MontalbanJR the riders committing this type of suicidal stupidity will not get over it when a Ferrari comes whipping around the corner at 80+ mph, also crossing the double yellow.
Couple of things: 1. Like Safa says, these guys have the miles in their legs. The more/longer you ride, the easier it gets. 2. Their bikes are no joke either. No way I'd be able to rush 100 miles on my 6061 Aluminium commuter, whereas my restomod Reynolds 531 road bike can gobble up the miles. I'm guessing the next step up to some of these carbon bikes is equally as big.
Yeah Iive and ride here including that road in video, I think not to be sexist but when you have group of women and men a lot of women are afraid of corners (at least to my eye as former ski racer and motocross and current cycling ). This road is deceptively steep from the gopro view and with the corners being blind much of the time it can seem frightening to less experienced or without the nerve. I kept hearing the brake dragging like you and and it annoyed me bit as well (inefficiency). I kept thinking I would have been pulling away from this group just coasting with my head down in drops.
I love the screams of the rim brakes. Sounds like a banshee
sounds like a F15 jet passing thru
a high pitched tie fighter
How can ı do this break sounds on my road bike?

Awesome to see women on your descents.
'Least favourite corner on the whole descent'.... Literally. I dunno what it is about that corner but I've nearly binned it there so many times.

As someone with a fresh set of carbon rim brake clinchers: I kinda love the sound of my brakes haha
Oh my god, I've been watching since your first video, but this is still more tense and frightening than The Shining.
