Me and my mate Dan used to stay with his dad Rob in the school holidays on Electric Avenue. Rob had a jewellery stall selling earrings and stuff outside Frank’s hair and beauty in the late 80s. We’d cover the stall while Rob was busy down the wholesalers. Great memories. Hello Stuart, I remember you!
@@jji1967 I noticed you posted under one of the Thames News Brixton vids - thanks for replying. Awful if thats true. You mentioned you'd spoken to him, did you ever find out much about him? I only just recently moved away, priced out
I played football for the youth club in his name, also done boxing and how to produce music there. I wouldn’t know where I’d be if it wasn’t for that place 💯
I LOVED THE OLD DAYS IN BRIXTON IN THE LATE 50S 60S 70S THATS IT . THEN IT ALL STARTED TO CHANGE. LOVERLY MEMORIES. ABC ODEON REGAL GRANADA FLEE PIT PIE MASH BRICKS MENS WHERE BURTONS I BOUT ALL MY CLOBER IN BRIXTON BON MARS
That's true. I went there the other day and I wondered where I was. It must be understood that the rough goes along with the smooth. Every area in London should not look the same.
When I was lad growing up in Brixton in the 40s, 50s, and 60s, the great cry of the fruit and veg stall holders was, "Come along missus. Two pound a pound pears", spoken, or rather shouted out, in that eloquent, unmistakeable, Sarf London cockney accent. Brixton looks a bit more posher than it did when I was a kid.

Please do a Part 2! I so enjoyed thus lovely film & think it's really cool that primary kids helped to make it! Brixton traders, please don't go! We had a lovely fruit n veg trade, by mainly women, on Moore St, Dublin city centre for a loooong time. Think Mrs. Agnes Brown (written & starring Brendan O'Carroll & his family & friends) You may gave seen that on BBC. New people changed the vibe in old Dublin. I'm in Cambridge myself. I feel sad when I think of Dublin & Ireland in the 90s It's died a death.
I Remember Buster also Max and Beatty on the Jewellery Stall , Johnny Ball (salad), Jimmy Egg man and colourful characters too numerous to mention late 1970s, Crazy time !

The market isn't the same anymore. Gentrification has ruined it. Full of silly gourmet European stalls and shops. Sad!
