    I would add a possible con: mini twists will display your hair density. If you want a full look, you'll need very high density hair or add hair.

    • @faithpelerin
      @faithpelerin  Рік тому +97

      This is true! My hair density isn’t very full. However, I find twisting smaller can give the illusion of fuller hair as opposed to bigger twists. 👍

    i’ve been doing my own two strand twists for almost 4 years nonstop and when my hair was in the shorter phase, I would rarely get compliments. Now that mine come down past my shoulders, everyone notices them! I appreciate any compliments nonetheless BUT chile this journey ain’t no joke 😂

    Last week I installed some mini twists late at night with no product and soon they started getting frizzy and tangled. I was being lazy and it looked a mess. This new week I made an aloe Vera and flax seed gel, blended it with water, put it in a spray bottle, and did a fresh set. The difference is night and day, my hair is juicy and looks nourished. I feel you on the putting the effort and keeping hair moisturized when needed.

    It's NOT the style that GROWS the hair. it's the TLC you put into your hair that helps it to retain its length. Haiir is ALWAYS growing. Mini twist just help you to retain your length by keeping your strands and ends protected. They allow you to easily re-moisturize and hydrate your hair. I wish people would stop saying GROW when it comes to protective styles and products the growth is ALWAYS there. its the CARE TLC that YOU put into your hair that maintains it healthy state leading to length retention. regardless of this, I like this video the pros and cons were good

      I agree with you, your hair will grow regardless of the hairstyles.
      Though i think, the quality of the hair growing will vary, .
      Styles with tension , i noticed lead to thinning hair growing.
      Its a huge topic that i feel, it needs to be touched on.

I'm blonde so it gave color. Once i took them down, i wore my hair from the unravel for a week and loved it too. I had 2 good styles😂

    I totally agree with you. Twists and fluffy twistouts are my go-to style.
    Going natural with your hair and face can be uncomfortable in the beginning. We have the same story. I was hiding behind make-up due to break outs and scars. I forced myself to accept my perceived flaws and haven't looked back since. I actually feel uncomfortable wearing even light make-up now, so these days I just put on lipgloss and go. I started wearing mini twists over the summer. I wore them pulled up and added a hair bun on top. I got the courage to wear them down and went through exactly what you said about feeling bald! I did them again with a side part instead of a middle part and liked them a lot more. Now that I'm a couple of months in, I'm getting more and more compliments. I've just learned that the ones in my nape area need a lot of moisture (leave-in, glycerin water, oil) to prevent single strand knots when I do my full refresh.

    • @IndigooceanOrg
      @IndigooceanOrg Рік тому +8

      I used Knot on my Watch to comb out my dreadlocs after 23 years of wearing them. I think that may help you prevent knotting at the back of your head if you use it as a prepoo for a couple hours before you wash. It really melted my locs so that I could gradually comb them out with a rat tail comb. I can't imagine you're tangling more than 23 year old mini-dreadlocks!

    Yes, all I did to get my dreadlocks was mini twists LOL. Also, if you don't have enough hair density and/or length it can look kind of scraggly. I had really dense hair when I started my locs and by the time I was old enough to have less density, I had a lot of length. I was able to comb out the locs I didn't cut off at shoulder length by using Knot on my Watch and a rat tail comb over a period of about a week. After 23 years having them in, I consider that a fair investment of time to get out of them without a big chop.

    I started the twist journey this year and I agree with all of this, tho I haven't tried mini twist yet. I think that's something I'm going to do for the new year. My BIGGEST issue has been the maintenance and products. There are SO many products that promise this, that and the third, and work for other people but not for my hair. Then I'm always taking them out on wash day and it gets frustrating, which makes me skip and they start to lock. Today I started watching some videos on maintenance and can I say, thank the Cosmos for the internet!! Anyways thank you for your insight, I'll be keeping watch for more of your content!

    U can really style them. My favorite thing to do with them was curl them and pin them
    To the side or curl them and let them hang
    They help retain length BUT let your hair breathe for a week before putting them back in. Your ends are sensitive . Keep them moisturize and take your time when taking them down

    In terms of time... I did MINI BRAIDS. It took me three days. A bit of braiding here and there. I reused the parts from some chiney bumps I wore prior. I little bit of braiding here and there... there was an occasion where I ended up not sleeping for like 36 hours because I braided when I was supposed to be sleeping. I'm honestly so happy with them though and will wear them for a long time. They're short now but with more practice and time, it will grow and be healthy... maybe taking longer to install too. :') I'm really just happy to finally learn how to c are for and love my hair, especially as a Transitioner. Good luck to all on their own journeys!

    Ngl my hair frizzes and tangles easily, so the takedown for mini twists is never pretty. I recently started off plaiting at the root and twisting the mid and end of my hair and its been pretty good so far :)

    I blow dried my natural hair first b4 putting in the twist bcuz I wanted length. WRONG! I looked like I had stringy twists and all kinds of gaps. 🥴🥴
    I won't give up. I will try again the upcoming weekend w/o blow drying my hair first. 😀

    • @IndigooceanOrg
      @IndigooceanOrg Рік тому +12

      If they're still twisted, try spritzing with water and then putting some oil over them (hemp seed, castor, or sesame). They should shrink up and thicken up. But yes, in general, the twist itself gives you the stretching you need and then just diffuse blowdrying can get the wetness off your neck and shoulders then air dry the rest of the way. We live and learn.

    • @faithpelerin
      @faithpelerin  Рік тому +2

      I felt this. When I blow dry first, while it gives me length, I lose all volume. Now I mainly try to stretch my hair after I twist them. Either with low heat on a blow dryer, or use the African banding method. Hope that helps! xx

    • @wut2heck
      @wut2heck Рік тому +10

      I usually blow dry before doing mini twists because I love the stretch. My hair is fine and I would say medium density. When you twist, try to use a butter or something that’s not water based. Idk, it works for me every time and I love the look lol. I hate when I start off on wet hair. Once it dries, my hair compacts so much and makes it look spacey for me lol

    • @jadesiress3382
      @jadesiress3382 Рік тому +9

      Moisturize and detangle before twisting them and keep your ends moisturized and oiled - don’t let them dry out. Also oil your ends thoroughly before washing your hair in twists. After washing you can oil the ends again and twist them together in large sections so the ends dry in a stretched state.

      If you extremely coiling hair with 85% shrinkage like mine, you can either blow dry with heat or do the African threading method to stretch your hair before installing your twist.
      You don't have to make it into a micro twist and starting with a braid will help your roots not lock up if your hair is extremely coil and if you live in a highly humid place.
