The 2018-2020 Mercedes X-Class can haul a payload of up to 1.1 tonnes. That's enough to transport 17 full 50-litre barrels of beer in the cargo area, for instance. Able to tow up to 3.5 tonnes, it can also pull a trailer containing three horses or an eight-metre yacht.
There are two powerful and efficient four-cylinder engines to deliver spirited performance. The high-torque common-rail diesel drive system with a displacement of 2.3 litres is available with a choice of two power outputs. In the X 220 d with single turbocharger it generates 120 kW/163 hp and in the biturbo X 250 d no less than 140 kW/190 hp. Both diesel models are available as left- or right-hand drive vehicles with purely rear wheel drive or with engageable all-wheel drive. All engines are characterised by quiet, low-vibration running and excellent power delivery coupled with low consumption figures. Power is transferred via a six-speed manual transmission. A seven-speed automatic transmission is available on request for the 140 kW/190 hp X 250 d and X 250 d 4MATIC models.
A high-torque V6 diesel engine will be released mid-2018, ensuring even greater agility on- and off-road. It will generate 190 kW/258 hp and a maximum torque of 550 Nm. This gives the X 350 d 4MATIC the leading position in the segment. The top X-Class model will come as standard with permanent 4MATIC all-wheel drive and the seven-speed automatic transmission 7G-TRONIC PLUS with steering-wheel shift paddles and ECO start/stop function. The DYNAMIC SELECT system is available in addition.
The European market launch is scheduled for November 2017. At the beginning of 2018 South Africa, Australia and New Zealand will follow, and in early 2019 Argentina and Brazil. In Germany it is available at a price from € 37,294 (incl. 19 percent VAT). The new X-Class can be ordered with immediate effect.

They teamed up with nissan and renault to build this, they only put their branding and internal electronics in it. So the drive quality and the drive assist systems should be pretty well functioning, but if you live in the US you'll never even see one. If they outsell their competitors in the countries they are aimed for, they may bring it to America to compete with our "Big 3" auto companies, but i doubt these will outsell.
Everyone dislikes it, but I think it’s a great idea. Think about it, Mercedes makes very off road capable vehicles (Unimog, G-class, etc) and they make great Diesel engines. Now put them together and make a truck, I think Mercedes can make great pickups. Maybe hopefully they’ll make a 4x4^2 x-class lol

I definitely can't call this a worthy off-road test. My stock 2004 2wd Ford Explorer could pass this without a sweat.

Mercedes has a commercial truck lineup, a pickup added to this portfolio wouldn’t hurt. Just because it’s Mercedes doesn’t mean it has to be luxurious, at the end it’s an automaker that designs and sets specifications for vehicles, only the Americans see Mercedes as a luxury only automaker.
This type of truck is immensely popular here in Africa, and it is sure to be a HOT seller here. Look up sales of the Hilux, Amarok, Isuzu KB, Nissan Navara in Africa, you will see why

Nope, the x-class is based on the Nissan Navara/Frontier since the Nissan Renault alliance shares stuff with Mercedes. BMW has stated if Mercedes makes a truck, they’ll make a truck too and since they r already collaborating with Toyota, a BMW truck will be based of the Hilux/Tacoma.

Harambe Jr. it’s for cost savings, the reason why what I stated happens is cuz they are in the same company: FCA, VAG, BMW-Rolls Royce. In this case, while Mercedes and Renault-Nissan aren’t in the same company, they have agreed to collab with each other, for example Renault engines in the lower spec A-class or a Nissan truck as a Mercedes truck. They’ve determined they can save the cost of redesigning special buttons, or infotainment systems, or an entire vehicle and still make money.

So glad I bought my Silverado. This Mercedes truck has no engine to speak of. America still builds the best trucks that blend power, performance and utility in one neat package and have years of experience and expertise. This is coming from a guy who bought nothing but German for 20 years, before I decided to switch back and I have no regrets. The ride with all seasons on this American made beauty is amazing in itself and is capable of taking me off road to places that match it's power. GM has come a long way and offer luxury and room reminiscent of the great classics. For me it's a win-win at an affordable price.

Not sure why not coming to US but traditionally this is had to do with a big tax that us has on 2-door trucks to protect its coveted pickup truck Market here. In an economically false manner. This one, I'm sad, Mercedes have made some awesome off-road stuff but this thing just drives on, let's say... My friends back yard. And, they could have made it look like you know, A MERCEDES. I've seen how a SUV from them looks like, and that thing is awesome.

The one thing I know about MBUSA is if they do it, they usually do it well. For all those talking about it, understand, as usual, your under the cloak of ignorant americans. Fyi mercedes is used as taxi cabs in Europe. They are Europe's Chevrolet or Ford if you will... They make a lot of commercial trucks. I used to own dealerships, and one of the things we do here in America is devalue our own products by thinking that domestic always sucks, and that couldn't be further from the truth. Meanwhile, our corvettes, vipers, escalades, ford escapes, ect. Go for ridiculous prices in places like China and Australia...and for those copycats, does that change your mind? Is it more desirable that in Australia 4x4 Escapes went for over 160k usd? My point is just because it's expensive doesen t mean it's the best, but I love the competition for Americans, because maybe this is what we need to make our trucks even better.

Those low profile tires are very undesirable, how about an off road version like the concept one? That ones awesome, except I would run all terrain tires, but minimal size 285/70-17, and the front bumper should be more truck like, bumping a tree would become an Incurance claim, I’m a huge fan of the unimog but way too much money! How about a bare bones small unimog? Or make something like this more truck like.

I don't understand why people think a Mercedes pick up truck will fail. Mercedes has a very capable and successful commercial line of vehicles and makes vehicles for military use. This truck will probably be the most capable v6 truck on the market. Side note: really hope the do an X63 AMG to compete against the Raptor.

I took my 190 E Class Mercedes-Benz off-road more than that I've been in sand dunes and mud holes and that was a 87 Mercedes-Benz and believe me I could run through I believe I could run through a brick wall and drive afterwards all these cars y'all keep making are plastic or even aluminum have you seen what happens to a can when you step on it come on Mercedes if you want help to design a real truck I've been talking about this for many years and I can design you a lot bear trucks in that it looks like it's a car with a truck bed
The back end is a 90's Navara, the engine sound is a rattly 90's Izusu (Holden) rodeo, the front has lost the sharp edging of the latest Mercedes. This prototype was something special - this misses the boat terribly, extremely disappointing.
Looks like it could do with a few more inches ground clearance because if buyers add skid plates then it will ground out.
When has anyone thought:

This merc is bare to the bone with options. It's completely standard, yet it's better than any other pickup truck out there. Yes it's diesel, it will be noisy, merc obviously has petrol options, and maybe even an amg v8. There really isn't much room for design when it comes to a pickup truck so what were you expecting? Of course it looks similar to other pickup trucks

If there going to do they need to do it right. This car still looks like it needs 10+ more years of refinement they. They need to realize the space that there in this needs to be a luxury track not a rugged off road vehicle it’s not a damn Nissan or Toyota it a Mercedes so it needs to act like it. Honestly if your going to be lazy with the design like this then just chop the front have of a G-Wagon and put a truck bed on the back and your golden but don’t ever put out some mediocre economy class vehicle like this again

Why bother making a dependable heavy duty work truck when most of the 60-80k trucks never see a day of work in their life. Mercedes sees that the american truck markets gotten bloated with the big 3 decking out their trucks like prom queens so theyre throwing their hat in the ring.
