While speaking about connectivity, it is worth mentioning that if you intend to use U3223QE as a USB-C docking station for your laptop, it has couple of limitations, that you will have to live with:
    - it only supplies 90W of power to the laptop through Power Delivery on USB-C cable - if laptop needs more to work or does not support Power Delivery, you'll have to power it separately
    - when connected through USB-C input (not a separate USB + DP or HDMI), you have to choose two of the following three by setting Prioritization mode in Display section of monitor OSD settings: 4k resolution, 60 Hz refresh rate, USB 3.2 support of the integrated USB hub - because of the bandwidth limitation on USB-C input, you cannot have all of it, you have to either live with max 1440p resolution (blurry - upscaled to 4k - but 60 Hz) or max 30 Hz @ 4k (mouse lag makes it unusable) or USB 2.0 only (should be ok for most but see next point)
    - bear in mind that when using 4k 60 Hz over USB-C input, the USB 2.0 limitation applies to all USB devices connected to monitor's USB hub, including Ethernet network interface - so instead of 1 Gbps it becomes ~300 Mbps max
To have it all (4k 60Hz + USB 3.2), you have to connect the monitor with either Display Port or HDMI and separately USB with another cable. Unfortunately you can't use USB-C input for power and video while connecting USB 3.2 with a separate cable - it will not work this way.
I didn't check if it is possible to use USB-C for Power Delivery + USB 3.2 while connecting video separately. Probably it depends on the laptop support, but I don't like this option because it would make a cable mess around the laptop - USB-C and HDMI are on the opposite sides of the laptop. If I wanted to accept that, I would not need a monitor with docking station capabilities anyway. I chose this monitor partly because it will reduce the cable count on my desk.
For me it is fine for now, I work through a 50-150 Mbps VPN most of the time so 300 Mbps is more than enough. But if it wasn't the case, I would probably have to wire something differently - either video or network - and deal with more cables on the desk.
1440p versions of this monitor (such as e.q. U2722DE) do not have this limitation, single USB-C cable has enough bandwidth to pass everything maxed out without any worries and without a blur visible on U3223QE in 1440p mode.

Thanks for this - on a 3 monitor set up I have the older Dell U2715H as my main middle screen and have loved the colour reproduction it gives. I've needed a 4k for a while (3D work), but I really didn't want the smaller 4k as the text in my main app will be tiny (I've friends who run their 4k at under-sized to save their eyeballs!). Finally, this gives some larger screen real estate to spread those pixels over and seems like the logical next step up. I'm chuffed it's still got that colour repro quality of my old monitor - I've always liked Dells for their affordable, content developer friendly, monitors. Great to see that continue.

Thanks for the review, I wish they add a faster refresh rate, I don't know why 120hz+ are only targeted for gamers as if it didn't make everything feel more responsive... maybe the next generation I'll get one... if they ever go a little faster (120hz is absolutely perfect)

Fully agree with you! I've chatted with Dell many times about this exact topic and hopefully they'll increase performance to at least 120Hz in the near future... The only downside is the cost. 4k 120Hz isn't cheap to produce so you'll likely see a $500-1000 increase in the price tag depending on the size.

I have heard that the screen is quite reflective. Doesn't that make the blacks less black and colors less accurate especially in daylight?

    • @District7DrewGeraci
      @District7DrewGeraci  11 місяців тому

In my experience that's likely a false claim. The monitor has a matte finish and no real reflections to speak of so I'm not sure how that would be possible. For me personally, in a well-lit room, I have not had this issue and the color and the black levels look great.

@@mikolajwojnicki2169 I think regardless of what monitor you're using, you never want to put your screen near a large window or in a space where large windows are your main source of light; any and all monitors will reflect some amount of light depending on the intensity. • @District7DrewGeraci

No, that's just from the camera filming the screen and the camera capturing the pixels of the screen/fresh rate. The monitor is flawless; I think they have some at Best Buy if you want to see it in person to ensure it matches what you're looking for.

I mean, I would HOPE that the Apple monitor is better, but likely the only thing the Apple monitor has that this doesn't is an OLED screen. Apple's color accuracy and standardization are one of the worst in the industry and why most post-production houses don't use them. They're wildly unreliable since you can't color calibrate them with 3rd party calibrators.

      ua-cam.com/video/7_EIy60UBTU/v-deo.htmlsi=L8YVjLOeYrU_l72R
Studios do use them for production work, but of course if it’s a high end production house then they’ll be using reference monitors that cost more than $10k.
I’d get an apple studio display if I could afford it, but I can’t, so I’m going to get this dell (would be nice if it had thunderbolt, but the built in hub seems pretty great as is)
And maybe apple will release a monitor that’s as good as the ones in their new MacBooks and then I’ll save up for that.
