I love how accepting you are of Gil (the guitar player). He's such a sweetheart and you're 100% spot on. Dude just wants to rock out, but takes care of business, too!
Yeah they may give him a hard time about his age, but tell ya what the revival they looked a little rough but Gil looked the same!!! Man stopped aging here
"so is this the formula for every episode, just her complaining about things and then her daughter being the adult of their relationship?" YES!!!! This is why we love Lorelei. ;)
@@stephaniepetrosky6159 I understand but imo it's important to understand Lorelais perspective too. Trauma often freezes you at the age it occurs at and for her this was childhood, and who can blame her for not being the perfect parent at only 16. To me it's hard to hold is against her, but I wish that after her life, job and home where stable she looked for adequate help with her mental health so that she could be a better Mother to Rory.
@@kurii6201So Lorelai gets a free pass for literally anything just because she was a teen mom? Yet fans will refuse to see how Rory was affected by this trauma and attack her for far less 🤦🏻♀️
The guitarist guy, Gil, is actually Sebastian Bach. He’s a famous 80’s hair metal singer from the band skid row. I absolutely love him, I was so excited when he joined the cast! Some other really good episode’s are s06e13 fridays alright for fighting, s04e22 raincoats and recipes and s05e03 written in the stars.
Love Love Love Baz!!! Seen him live twice!!! He was also on Broadway in Jesus Christ Superstar (he played Jesus!) and was in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde....fun fact.....he can't play the guitar irl!!! lol
“So, is this the format for every episode? Just her complaining about things and then her daughter being the adult in the relationship.” That sums it up pretty well, yeah. “Because Lorelai exists.” Three episodes in and you understand the fundamentals of the show. A good fun episode in my opinion would be season 4, episode 2, “The Lorelais' First Day at Yale”.
Cinnamon's wake is my favourite episode. It has it's funny moments, but also some heartworming scenes, and a lot of townspeople being townspeople. It is one of the first episodes, season 1 episode 5 if I remember correctly, so a lot of stuff are being established in the episode. It is so essentially Gilmore, that if you don't like it, Gilmore girls is not a show for you.
Not at all the funniest, but the most poignant for me is Rory’s 16th birthday parties episode, season 1, when Emily Gilmore realizes that she does not know her daughter.
This is such a warm and entertaining show, you should definitely explore more episodes! "A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving" is once that I remember being quite fun.
The show has a lot of drama but I think some of the more fun episodes are season 2 episode 7 “Like Mother, Like Daughter” or season 4 episode 17 “Girls in Bikinis, Boys Doing the Twist”. Those episodes are more light hearted and comedic rather than drama fueled I would say.
Gil is Sebastian Bach from Skid Row! A true 80s metal rock star. It’s unfortunate that these episodes show Lorelai being a bit childish because she’s a great character (my fave 😌) Imo the coolest thing about GG is the small town vibe, the quirky neighbours and friends, their dynamics and how the girls’ lives intertwine with the town life 💖 ETA: I don’t know if it’s *funny*, but it’s definitely entertaining -S2E10, The Bracebridge Dinner!
Omg you did the epi I suggested ! Can I just explain my reasoning for why this episode stands out to me so much. Although I do agree that a great episode usually includes a Sassy Friday night dinner, I feel like this episode shows so much about what I loved about the Gilmore girls. The towns people. The wackiness. The fact that something very real is happening (Suki‘s baby) Around some thing totally so nonsensical is why I feel that this episode is such a great window into their world Oh. And Bruce. Enough said.
(sinister chuckle) We've got him now... You're going down the GG rabbit hole, my friend, and its so satisfying to watch. For recommendations, I don't think you could go wrong with either the Bracebridge Dinner (lots of appearances from the townsfolk in that one) or the season 2 episode, Like Mother like Daughter (which is a fun, more in-depth look at Lorelai's relationship with Emily).
I think The Bracebridge Dinner is probably extra fun for more townsfolk, or A Tisket, A Tasket or even my favorite episode for a really long time was Drive Me Tonight which has a whole town event subplot too.all 3 are season 2 episodes with heavy amounts of town but also of romantic & drama moments lol
"Is this the formula for every episode? Just her complaining about things and then her daughter being the adult?" - Congrats, you just summarised Gilmore Girls 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fun fact: every summer Laguna Beach, CA hosts their own festival of living arts called The Pagent of the Masters. It's done every summer. If you're ever in town check it out!
@@notthemovie It's not in the yt edit, but one of my favorite jokes from the entire series is when we cut back to Taylor announcing "and that was Guernica!" Love the jokes that aren't funny until you stop for a minute and really think about it 😆
For a fun episode, I've always liked season 2, episode 7 "Like Mother, Like Daughter." but for just a general favorite, mine has always been "Rory's Dance" (season 1, episode 9)
FYI, for the youngsters, the guy who played Gil was an actual rock star, Sebastian Bach, with the band Skid Row in the 1980's. And yes, Quiet Riot was a real band back then too. ALSO, if you didn't know, the Gilmore Girls theme song was written and performed by Carole King and her daughter. Carole King went on to become a recurring character later in the series. And if you don't know who Carole King is, well.... I don't know if there's hope for you.
I love the rewatch podcasts ! Also new girl started recently. I love all the nostalgia and hearing more about your fav shows that no one knew about.
16:38 - Sir, may I suggest Lane Kim's playlist. (i.e. the list of every band mentioned in the series) Every bit as good as Rory Gilmore's book list. LANE: [On phone] "No, wait, wait, wait. Progressive rock is a really passé style now, but I listed it as an influence because it was a progenitor of great things that came afterwards. I mean, I contend that you can draw a straight line from Yes to Jethro Tull to The Jam to Nirvana, bing bang boom… [pauses]. Who are The Jam? That's disturbing." [later in the scene] "You are not telling me that you did not know that Kim Deal was in the Pixies before the Breeders! I refuse to accept that! These kids have no sense of history."
Gilmore girls is one of my fave shows of all time and I’m so happy you’ve enjoyed the episodes you’ve watched so far. Another one I recommend is I believe season 1 episode 4 the Deer Hunters it’s hilarious lol

It's so sad that so many Gilrmore Girls fans have no idea who Sebastian Bach is!! OMG I don't know how this is even possible?? . Sebastian Bach on a sitcom , playing a random "old" rocker, `with a wife and kids who owns a sandwich shop and hooks up with this garage band to play cover songs with these kids and then we get to see Sebastian Bach singing, "I ain't no holla back girl" is amazing. And when Hep Alien does "Believe it or Not"l, the Greatest American Hero theme song in "Tippecanoe and Taylor Too" and Sebastian does his Star Spangled Banner riff .. It's epic. Just the best thing ever. LOL
It may be early to do another Gilmore episode, but I've seen everyone suggest "Koren fried thanksgiving" & "Mother like daughter" But I think a fundamental episode and/or episode that would help understand the dynamics Lorelai has with her parents and in general Rory is "Dear Emily & Richard" (s3 e13) a flashback episode. I can't put a name on it now, but the episode where Rory quits college is also a big one in terms of if you haven't seen Rory & Lorelai fight!
That's great that you've seen 3 episodes. Now you need to watch the best one: "Raincoats and Recipes". Kirk has the funniest scene in TV history, hands down. Enjoy! :)
Unlike a lot of the other teens in the show who were played by people in the late teens/early 20s Keiko Agena who plays Lane was 28 in season 1 so in her 30s here and is actually inly 5 years younger than Sebastian Bach who plays Gill meaning all the things they said were close to true for her then!
