- 1989. The end of the Soviet-Afghan war. The USSR begins to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan. Soviet General Vasilyev’s son - a pilot named Alexander - is kidnapped by the Mujahideen after his airplane crashes. As a result, the 108th Motor Rifle Division’s long awaited return home is put on hold for one last mission: bring the General’s son back. Based on true events, the previously untold story of this tragic withdrawal reveals the complexity of human nature during wartime.

I'm not a vet, currently enlisting, but from what I've seen and heard from vets, real-life CQB is a lot different than all the "high-speed low-drag" stuff pushed around on the internet and in games. There's just so much that goes on during a urban battle like in Fallujah, it's disorienting, extremely dangerous, and a sensory overload. Another good example outside of US battles is the 2nd Libyan Civil War, it was so chaotic that you'd have different groups fighting in a neighborhood, and it was an absolute scatter-battle, groups would be split apart, and could be in a building, shooting across the street at another building with enemies in it, while there's a building with enemies right next to yours. Absolutely crazy stuff.

Think of a city and every room is possibly trying to kill you. The rules are don’t shoot unless shot upon even if they have weapons. You don’t know who or what is a target and there is loud noises like explosions in the distance it’s hot or cold depending on where you are and there’s a lot more it’s scary it’s hard and you shoot through doorways and hallways or drag out the enemy

This is not a documentary in any possible case, it's just a movie or even a clip.. not sure. Anyway it's filmed kinda recently and a huge hollywood influece is seen. Fact that someone looks like a local.. well, all replies before me and just keep in mind that during this time it actually was a huge army of locals in addition to soviets. Doctors, engineers, and builders came to Afghanistan from the USSR along with the troops. Soviet specialists built schools, houses, and treated children. They built roads and gas pipelines. They built tunnels. All this still stands and works in Afghanistan. Ordinary Afghans studied at the best universities of the USSR absolutely free of charge. The United States came to Afghanistan and brought with it only death. Now Afghans remember Soviet people and soldiers with respect. And Americans are despised. This was the difference between democracy and communism. Although in both cases there was a war.

both overarching plans were the essentially same. Defeat the insurgency by improving the country. Ultimately, the only difference was ROE. US roe was far stricter to reduce civilian casualties. Soviet Union on the other hand, had no ROE by the end of their occupation. Soviets were incredibly brutal towards the people of Afghanistan. Civilian casualties during the soviet occupation are estimated 1-3 million. Us occupation, civilian deaths are a little less than 50k.

The soviet invasion looked much more like the fascist italian invasion of Ethiopia: wanton destruction, scorched earth tactics, torture, rape, indescriminate carpet bombing campaigns, repeated usage of illegal chemical weapons, targeting of essential civillian infrastructure (non-military assets), millions of small mines dropped by airplanes over the country (the famous "butterfly mines" which children would often pick up because of their curious shape and get killed or maimed by them), the Khandahar region ended up being depopulated by as much as 90%

Но я согласен с тем, что "Братство" низкокачественный фильм. Даже несмотря на то, что мне этот фильм понравился со второго просмотра. Хотя, после "Пешаварского вальса" и прочих фильмов 90-ых про Афган "Братство" не кажется низкокачественным. Это среднекачественное кино. Но до лучших картин про Афган он не доходит. Это факт.
P.S. Парадокс ещё в том, что "Пешаварский вальс" я считаю лучше "Девятаева".

I was in Afghanistan in the 80's with the Soviet VDV forces and then later in the 2000's with the US 82nd Airborne Division.
Later I served in Iraq, then Libya, and Syria. With the US Army, then Russian army for the latter.
Right now I'm serving in Ukraine with the battalions, after initially serving with the Russian Army during the first year of the invasion.
I still think my experience fighting in Berlin with the Red Army during the Great Patriotic war was the toughest fight I ever had. But my time fighting with the Marines on Okinawa against the Japanese was no picnic either.

They say that the planned economy of the USSR simply appeared ahead of its time. And a number of researchers say that the future belongs to the planned economy, not the market economy.
As for GDP, this is far from the most objective indicator. The US economy is artificially inflated. This was done in order to exploit the cheaper labor force of other countries. But because of this, the US national debt is constantly growing. I really suspect that the US does not care about the national debt, they are not going to pay it back. This is a form of parasitism at the expense of the rest of the world.
As for the low Russian GDP, this is also a form of parasitism. The oligarchs and ruling circles in Russia parasitize at the expense of the low standard of living in our country. Since the country receives most of its income from exports, the oligarchs benefit from cheap labor. This is why the ruble has been artificially collapsed several times. Alas, these are our rulers.
This is probably the best Soviet-Afghan war movie out there. Yes it's from the disgusting, genocidal Communist Soviet/Russian perspective, but it's still a surprisingly good film. Something like this could not be made in today's fascist Russia - yes Russia is fascist now. It's funny how they went from various Communist dictatorships to a Fascist one in about 30 years or less, but murderous authoritarianism adapts and always will I guess. Rant done - good flick.
The film was shot in 2019. Russia was then "Fascist". But Ukraine is more deeply mired in fascism.
And yes, this is not the best film about the Soviet-Afghan war. The best film about this war is considered to be Afghan Breakdown (Афганский излом, 1991). It was done in the last days of Perestroika. But it was released after the collapse of the USSR. In second place, you can put The 9th Company (9 рота, 2005). The film was shot when Russia and Ukraine began to walk down this slippery slope.

@@ДенисС-п6щ Вы слепой или не особо умный? Вы знаете, что означают кавычки (вот этот символ: "" ) над этим словом? Вы не задавались вопросом: почему эти кавычки на этим словом только в предложении про Россию, а про Украину эти кавычки отсутствуют?
Я жду ответы на эти вопросы. А пока отвечу на ваши. Но перед этим объясню всю тонкость.
Так вот эти кавычки означают, что называть нашу страну фашистской это не корректно. То есть кавычки имеют как минимум два значения. Первое они заменяют слово якобы. А что означает слово якобы? Якобы - употребляется для присоединения придаточной части сложноподчинённого предложения и указывает на то, что эта часть содержит сообщение, которое говорящий не признаёт своим и за его достоверность не отвечает. И это как минимум. А максимум - это использования слова в саркастическом плане.
И да, я не обвиняю свою страну и своих сограждан в фашизме. Хотя слышал о случаях, когда наша власть в тихаря сносила памятники павшим солдатам ВОВ. И когда наша власть ставила памятники людям, которые сотрудничали с Третьем Рейхом. Например, памятник Маннергейму в Питере. Но это всё же не достаточно для меня, что бы называть наше государство фашистским. Но для радикальных коммунистов это вполне достаточно. А к таким я не отношусь.

The beginning and the end are well done. The film sags in the middle. In principle, the film can be called good. But it's hard to do that. Personally, I liked him the second time. I recommend watching it before "9th Company" (9 рота, 2005) and "Afghan Breakdown" (Афганский излом, 1991). For these two films are much better in terms of artistic value. Although there are Russian films about the Soviet-Afghan war worse than the film "Leaving Afghanistan".

This seems like an absolute mess. They ran into an ambush within these tightly packed buildings. Of course, none of them have body armor, you can see them doing the tank desant thing at the start and using what looks like a BTR to me as cover, but of course that can't follow them into the village. American troops at least had body armor when the invasion of Afghanistan rolled around. I'm sure many of them were saved by it. Sure, a bullet may strike a part not covered by it, or an IED/bomb could get you, but it increases your chances of survival in a gunfight.
Actually, they had bodyarmor, early 6b1 model, you can see it on them. But at that time vests were trash, so they could've stop only pieces or pistol bullets with some percentage. That is 80's.
