Tatiana's lyrics are usually quite meaningful. I understand "Perenial" as a rebirth. Like a perenial plant which seems to die in winter, but doesn't die, and instead comes back each year. She says "we're not dead, just enjoying coma", just as the plant goes through winter dormancy. When she is phyisically arising, it is like a spring awakening. Can be a metaphor for many things.

The more you get to experience Jinjer, the more you’ll find you love them. They’re so versatile and always find new ways to make music. They don’t have 1 style, and every single member of the band contributes massively to the whole. No one member sticks out above the others, which says a ton because Eugene is one of the best bass players out there. Roman is an excellent guitar player. Vlad is a world-class drummer. And of course, we all know how wonderful Tatiana is on vocals.

Tati does not have just one clean vocal style, she has tons of styles, colors and flavors she can add to her voice depending on the song and part of it.
So when you noticed the differences, part of it is her maturing as a singer - the Pisces live session is couple of years old - part her choosing different style. And some part is outdoor stage in front of audience vs. inside a studio.
The same goes to her growls, to some extent.
If you want to hear wider variety of growls and jazzy wides, Home Back official video is a good one, but it's also very dark because it talks about their home being invaded in 2014, as seen through eyes of a child/teenager.

Nice reaction Rachel. Pisces is listed as a "live session" and it is to a degree, it was recorded live in studio, but has post production added, so it's really a studio recording. This Perennial song and video from Wacken is live, live, this is how they sound in concert. I've been fortunate to meet and see Jinjer twice (so far) and will see them again in July when the open up for Disturbed and I can honestly say they are amazing, both as a band, and as humans They are some of the nicest, kindest, and most humble human beings who clearly love their fans. Yes Tatiana does sound like this live LOL, and Eugene (bass), Roman (guitar), and Vlad (drums) are equally fantastic. Continue to enjoy your Jinjer journey and as always, stay Metal young lady. Oh the term you probably meant to say when Tatiana growls, is "harsh vocals", anyhow, stay Metal. 😊🤘🤘🤘🤘🎶🎶🎶🎶

Great reaction! I think I read some where that Tati suffers, or suffered in the past from seasonal depression, which is what this song refers to, like a perennial plant that goes dormant in the winter and blooms again in the Spring. I'm sure that one of the Jinjer Army will correct me if I'm wrong. As for the next Jinjer reaction, I'd recommend Teacher Teacher OMV. Enjoy your journey down the Jinjer rabbit hole! 🤘🍻

    • @j.f.fisher5318
      @j.f.fisher5318 Рік тому +3

She struggles with chronic depression in general, and it gets worse in the summer prompting self-destructive thoughts. The lyrics and some comments suggest to me that the dong is a reminder to herself that spring will come and she can make it through. Generally, she seems to be doing better since meeting Alex and is more calm and confident. It used to be she and Eugene would shep on each other's toes in interviews and shed get defensive, but now she takes it in stride more confidently. Generally a relationship alone isn't enough to make that big of an impact so I kinda wonder if Alex helped her find resources while she was in the US at the beginning of lockdown in 2020. Whatever the situation I'm glad she's doing better.

Tatiana is freakin amazing. And the rest of the band are also phenomenal. They all work so well together and i feel their sound is uniquely Jinjer, i.e i hear a guitar lick or drumbeat and instantly recognize it as Jinjer. I highly recommend I Speak Astronomy, Teacher Teacher, and Who Is Gonna Be The One (the live version) are some more dope Jinjer songs to react to. Also in the song Vortex, Tatiana hits some loooww growls.
Another great female fronted band is Infected Rain (Lena Scissorhands).

Teacher Teacher is probably your best next reaction, but personally, I wish you would jump to Outlander live when the band was young so that you can see the growth as you go through the reactions of their other songs. She is amazing live but in Outlander you get her younger growls which aren't as deep but more easily received by the ear, and you see her stage presence and energy that adds to reasons why she is one of the greatest frontperson of a band. Eventually, you should check out their live performance of Pit of Consciousness for an example of just how low she can get live. Just Another live is also a must and catch that positive energy she puts out there in her performances. By the time you make it around to Vortex, Cloud Factory and I Speak Astronomy, you will be appreciating the band as much as her vocals, as they are extremely talented in their own right.

Good morning, and welcome to the reaction community, Rachel. I'd hoped to make your premier this morning, but I was stuck at work a bit too long. Better luck later.
I got to see Jinjer live last November; they're all SO very talented, and Tatiana was even more attractive in person, which is saying something. She's entirely self taught as a vocalist, and sometimes sounds a bit like young Gwen Stefani, one of her role models.
For more music by Jinjer, I'd look at 'Teacher, Teacher!'(Tati raps), 'I Speak Astronomy", 'Judgement & Punishment' (they do reggae), 'Homeback' (they want their home back from the Russian military), Wallflower (Tati is an introvert), and Disclosure! (police have questioned their loyalty to Ukraine in the past).

Not another layer. Just some harmonies toward the end. They use those sparingly in various songs, some not at all. You nailed the theme (not everyone does). The song is about the changing of the seasons from fall to winter and the depression some people have when that happens and then rising again in the spring. I think you would like "I Speak Astronomy. That's also a powerful song.

I love female led rock/metal or prog. Tati and Jinjer slip right into those and hit a little Jazz with the drumming prowess. I'll say it again, "Pit of Consciousness" in Kiev. For a wild ride, try their Vortex video...
Another band to look at - totally different style but just as loyal a following as Jinjer is Liliac. Family band that is amazing. My current fave is their cover of "Master of Puppets" live with Aiden Fisher (Stranger Things fame), or go back to the beginning of their success with their "Enter Sandman" cover - they were teens and preteens at that time. They have amazing originals also. "Mars" (live) is their most well known... I personally like "Vertigo" (live). They will get your channel tons of views. Trust me.

-With Jinjer, you’re going to have a hard time not thinking “This doesn’t sound like…..” I think I said this before but I got interested because “Pisces.” As I went through a couple of other songs, I wasn’t feeling them and I wasn’t able to figure out why. After listening to the live version of “Bad Water”, I got it. My comparison is to Queen in that they can play anything. There are so many different styles they use and use them exceptionally well. I’m still getting into them and constantly amazed.
-Back in December, they were the first concert I had been to in, as I like to say, “Damn, I’m Old” years. It was the most fun I had in a long time. The song they opened with was “Sit Stay Roll Over.” Judging by your comments and expressions during her false vocal moments, I think that might be one for the list.

SSRO is awesome. It presents a bit of a dilemma- most fans prefer the video which btw they totally planned out and the person who filmed it just took care of the space, dog, and video. However, the live in Melbourne one unfortunately has Eugene's bass a bit low in the mix but Tattiana includes more epic vocal tricks than in any other performance I've seen of a single song.

@@j.f.fisher5318 I think that’s why you go with the video to get the song and THEN check out the Melbourne version. For live versions, that’s why I suggested the official live video for “Bad Water.” It’s such a great version.

In the studio recording of Pisces, the engineer actually layered Tatiana's voice 2 and sometimes 3 times, which is why it sounds different. One thing about distorted vocals with pitch and melodic undertones, they tend to sound a little better in recording which can be engineered. I have a much harder time understanding Alissa White Gluz live then on studio (Alissa cannot always hear herself due to problem with her Eustachian tubes).... however Tatiana is extremely talented and her live distortion can be understood once you get used to it. Tatiana actually had no training, she taught herself by screaming into a pillow in her Apartment in Ukraine until she could make sounds she liked and not be sore afterwards (she discussed this in Tee time w/ Elizabeth on the Charismatic Voice).

People who are "enjoying coma" of being drugged, intoxicated or even slaved in any other way. I wish all of those people would rise "from the ashes of" their "roots".🙏

Vocally, Tatiana is like a chameleon crossed with a dragon. (Edit: appropriately, her throat tattoo is the face of the mesoamerican dragon-god Quetzalcoatl, tattooed across her voicebox and throat chakra) She can slip effortlessly into multiple vocal personas and sound as good doing them as someone who's made that one thing their career. And it isn't just in her cleans. In Jinjer, Tatiana uses grows that are heavily influenced by Randy Blythe. But in her first growling band Prophecy she sounds much more Otep influenced (Otep was the band that gave her the experience most people these days when they encounter Pisces, she thought Otep was a guy and was shocked when corrected and inspired to shock others that way).
Jinjer is band 8 for her, iirc and she at one point was singing in 4 bands at the same time - see Loudwire's "How Tatiana Shmaylyuk Learned to Scream" for more on that) and those bands have run a gamut from metal to Latin, jazz, and reggae. Judgement & Punishment one take is a great follow-up to see her Reggae side which doesn't often have a chance to come out and play with Jinjer but one day Roman came up with a good riff that sounded reggae and J&P is the result. To hear some Prophecy, look for Gading Maarien's chanel or search "gading maartien tati jinjer prophecy" which finds it for me. I'll try to add a link as a reply but YT usually eats my posts with links heh. In the early days of Jinjer she also had a side project whose name is usually romanized Kodry and if you look up "vidcerts jinjer nirvana" you'll find 22 minutes of her singing clean latin-infused Nirvana covers that are fire (I swear she's saying "Hey! Wait! You've found a new Cobain!" heh). There's also a cover of AIC's Man In The Box by her husband Alex Lopez's former band Suicide Silence with her doing featured vocals and a growling cover of Nirvana's Territorial Pissings in the early part of lockdowns with Eugene on bass and Alex doing guitar and drums.
For a next up from Jinjer, I'd recommend going back in time for some "baby Jinjer", specifically Exposed As A Liar either the official video from 2012 which was their first video, or the live version called the "Crowd Factory Official DVD Trailer" with some cute interview clips at the beginning. Cheers!

    Such a good performance
Tatiana's vocal translations are seamless with fantastic stage presence. She is so captivating.
I really suggest Teacher Teacher official video. Also Judgement and Punishment Tatiana's one take vocal performance version. It has a musical influence you might not expect, but its awesome.

In this one I think she sounds like Gwen Stafani in her No Doubt days. In interviews Tatiana hjas said that Gwen is one of her inspirations, so it's no wonder. And yes, I agree that she sounds like early Britney in some of her songs.

If you haven't, you should watch and react to Wild Eyes by Parkway Drive, the live version which is also from Wacken as well. Super sick song, and the crowd is totally all in with them.
Edit: Also, another great band to check out if you haven't is Unleash the Archers, the songs Awakening and Tonight We Ride are great ones to start with.

One thing I love about this one is that it is often the SECOND video a lot of people see after watching Pisces. People marvel at her growl and doubt that sound is coming from her. This video makes it clear that those sounds are indeed coming from her, and there are more transitions from clean vocals to growls that highlight her amazing ability to effortlessly shift from one to the other.

Lots of great comments here already but I didn´t see any about what the lyrics are about so I wanted to share that with you ;) It´s about how the nature dies in fall, leafs fall off etc but everything comes back to life in spring time. Tatiana has been very open about how she fell into depression during fall time. So this is how she describes her spirits with the nature´s cycle. Great to see you getting on board the Jinjer train. You can´t help but love these people! I´ve been fortunate to meet them in person a few times ❤

It's always funny to see people who are not metal fans make that happy grimace 😁. You know they feel it.
And yeah, Tati dragging herself up in that jerky motion while switching to a growl is a great performance. She knows how to make a show you will remember.
