The thing I always find interesting about BetterHelp sponsorships is that they never say that "BetterHelp helped me through that," it's always "Therapy helped me through that." Like yeah, good therapy will do that. But is BetterHelp good therapy?
It can be. It's a side gig for therapists, obviously not a big money maker for them. They are affordable for the consumer without insurance, and that's a big plus. My therapist was experienced and also worked for a practice in the same state I lived, and she was very helpful. Honestly, I was extremely skeptical of BH before, but my experience speaks for itself, although I don't speak for others who have used the service
@@ziltoidtheomniscient2398so it’s essentially a mid-way point between just dealing with it, and actually getting professional help + treatment?

I don't know, I've seen at least one BH ad where a UA-camr claimed that it helped him in the past.

That is a good point and gives a good reason why people still turn to Better help anyways (even if it has lawsuits and data-mining/distribution problems). The unfortunate reality for a lot of people is that therapy in general isn't often affordable, and there can be misconceptions of what makes good therapy.
Oftentimes, even the therapies that are considered the best/medically proven doesn't always work with some people because everyone has different kinds of needs/struggles even if they have the same diagnosis.
That's probably why people say finding a good therapist is kinda like dating (and unfortunately, not many people can afford to check out which therapist is right for them).
I, too, love selling my information
Is it even selling it, if you are paying them?
Correction: paying to have your information sold

I’m so glad I cancelled Better Help, now I invest that money into Established Titles. They give you a paper that says you’re a lord!! It’s whimsical.
I like how there was all this controversy surrounding BetterHelp years ago and then they were just like "...nuh uh..." and somehow that was enough for people to start accepting sponsorships from them again. I feel like I've gone insane every time I see a BetterHelp sponsorship (which is the exact opposite effect it should be having), like, am I the only one who remembers everything that went down before??? Glad to see that's not the case.

Better Help helped me to be very precisely targeted by the ads I was most susceptible to, so thanks for that!
Its AtomicShrimp, the absolute legend
I am glad you did this skit. Seeing all the Better Help ads, when they were caught using the information that people were giving them to find a therapist to sell to advertisers, just pisses me off.
The worm feeling you get when the UA-camr recommends you use the app that "gig-economized" the therapist profession 🤗
If you're feeling like a worm, you might need to seek help. It does a number on the psyche.
Which is why you should try this reply's sponsor, Better Help!
"Our healthcare system is a complete shitshow. Today's sponsor is profiting off of that and so am I" is basically what I hear when someone does a sponsor deal with them. Or I did before I got sponsorblock.
I legitimately don't know how some UA-camrs who've apologized for sponsoring BetterHelp back in the day are now promoting it again.
Were they put under contract or something? Did their emails say something like "Hey don't worry, we're better now, let's put that controversy in the past!"
It's a shame to see. Even some UA-camrs whose whole thing is debunking scams or science research will take a BetterHelp sponsorship and the top comment will be someone explaining why they're a scam.
Money
Aw man I wrote a very sincere comment about my struggle with mental health and my (mixed) experience with better help and it got auto-modded by UA-cam. The best way to destigmatize mental health and therapy is to talk about it but I guess that's TOS. So instead I guess I'll just say "better help lmao peepee poopoo"

There are two sponsorships I regret taking. Better Help is the far greater regret of the two.
Guy carrying thing makes 100 UA-cam videos instead of going to therapy. What a legend!
And I don't understand. When did we all suddenly collectively decide that their horrible business practices were actually okay?
We didn't. But what I did realize in researching why companies like that are allowed to exist is that governments/organizations and other bodies the world over have no teeth to corporations. So they make them pay a piddly little fine, give them some specific new rules to follow that only apply to very esoteric situations in their adverts/products and corporations don't change, they get worse.
Inb4 this video is the first domino that kicks off a chain of multi-hour long video essays about the full story behind Better Help or smth
There are already quite a few good videos about it (and many are pretty recent so they cover ALL the company's scandals)
something that bothers me with the basement yard podcast is when they do an ad for betterhelp they always say "ive been in therapy for years i think everyone should do it" while being really careful not to say they're using betterhelp, because they arent
It's disappointing how big youtubers still take betterhelp sponsorships. The Kavernacle did a great breakdown of that company's problems. Also, watch the documentary on them being garbage. "I Don't Trust My Therapist".
Where can I see it? I can't find anything with that name on youtube😢
@@snowhusk It's a UK documentary by Channel 4. So it might be region locked, not sure.
Better help made me realized that I could be better. And that I needed help. Just not from Better Help.
I feel like having the resources to get help but refusing to do so anyway is still very relatable
Honestly the state of mental health services can be pretty bleak and I feel like that's often glossed over to not deter people from pursuing them, which is reasonable as we don't have anything else, but if your expectations are pretty uncalibrated to what you're likely to receive, then that's going to be pretty discouraging too.
BetterHelp, speak about your personal life and then get it sent off to social media platforms so they can advertise stuff to you based on what you’re going through 😄
an abyss that can only be filled by whatever things that man is carrying
Betterhelp: no matter how much we get exposed, UA-camrs will shill for us anyway
I've come to realise that any company that has enough money to throw around to mass sponsor youtubers is probably cutting costs when it comes to the quality of the actual product and failing to build any genuine hype. It always rubs me the wrong way to see youtubers fawning over products that you know they'd never ever touch and would probably openly mock if they weren't getting paid to pretend they think they're great.
"Try Better Help. You still have to pay for a therapist that'll be completely outside your price range, as opposed to myself who's a rich UA-camr, but at least now you know I have a therapist, making me just like you. Except in a better mental state. And richer."
I agree wholeheartedly with this as someone who started BetterHelp around 2015-2016. I am still in touch with my therapist from the platform, but I also learned from her their business practices aren't exactly all up to stuff. Furthermore, she stopped doing work there to start her own practice, but they never took her off the active roster of therapists.
Snuff. Aren't up to snuff

Sad sadness is even worse than regular sadness.
I understand small creators with like 0 involvement in the initial controversy not doing enough research before partnering with them, even though it can't be that hard googling " controversy".
However, the fact that YT veterans also partner with them, including ones that were literally in the initial controversy, is just surprising and disappointing.
People are greedier or willfully more ignorant than I thought. I give each tuber one chance. If the sponsorship lasts like a month, then stops, they get to stay. If it's a repeat, I unsub and forget they exist.
Hence bye bye Anthony Padilla, Daniel Thrasher and Binging with Babish.

every man has to carry the sad sadness from time to time.
I still don't understand why every youtuber seemingly forgot about betterhelp being shady. Did they never hear about it in the first place? Did they think the company cleaned up their act without researching it at all? Are they just that greedy that they don't care?
I don't know anything about betterhelp or its shady reputation so I'm going to assume a lot of UA-camrs are on the same boat.
Now, if I was going to take money from a sponsor, I'd probably look into their business, but I'm not going to be surprised that not everyone does

Is there a lore reason why Man carries Thing?
no
@@ManCarryingThing This lack of backstory is brilliant. It's meant to create a degree of ambiguity, so that the audience can project their own reasons for why Man carries the Thing. It leaves us to wonder what trials and tribulations he must have endured that would lead him down this windy path of various directions and uncertain unknowable.... stuff.... that it really leaves it open-ended for the milking of endless sequels, prequels, midquels, and television show spin-offs (not to mention a video game adaptation and at least two different novelizations), not to mention the inevitable two or more reboots within 1 to 2 decades' time, ultimately culminating in a crossover event between the original Man, the old-new Man and then the newer-new Man who will all have to carry the Thing together.
