“The next wave is the best wave,” goes the timeless surfing adage. Samaria knows a thing or two about the value of patience. The Bay Area R&B singer - who recently signed to RCA and dropped her first project, ‘Even Paradise Rains,’ with the label - has been making music for about a decade. In fact, she’s the rare prospect that has a nine year gap between full-length projects. Lifelong adoration of Lauryn Hill and Aaliyah is up front in early albums ‘The Story of Right Now’ and ‘Adventures of Lovergirl.’ Personal romantic failures could have derailed the next few years, but Samaria turned proverbial lemons into lemonade with 2022’s ‘Didn’t Start With You.’ Sonically, there’s a little more West Coast to the six-song EP, with a smattering of G-funk bounce and biting lyrics belied by breeziness; sample “Still Got 4ever” and “Out The Way” for a taste.
