We’ve used this technique many times for stunts. I was shooting some video for Katy Perry’s tour several years ago and she had to fall from the sky and land in a field of flowers worth the camera zooming in to see her perfectly posted on the ground. It was all green screen so we had her in a flying harness leaning back against a slanted green board where the stylists fixed her hair and costume perfectly. The camera was sideways so she would appear to be in the ground. As we pulled the board back and away from her, she thrust her arms and legs forward then went into a gentle floating position. Played in reverse, she floated in and landed in the perfect position for camera.
The fist bump gave it away for me, then I thought at why he waved the cloth, it all came together. Still looked afterwards a couple more times and each time I watched it looked less reversed and more natural, weird. Awesome video!
