Fishing for Crappie the other day, got a nice tug on a small swim bait, i set the hook and low and behold it was a large bullfrog. First time i ever had a frog bite a lure. Enjoy your channel.
In my State, it is legal to take bullfrogs. If you use a hook and line, gig, spear, bow and arrow, or "other methods except a firearm," you need a fishing license to take them. If you take them with a firearm, you need a hunting license. It had never occurred to me to even try to catch bullfrogs on a hook and line until I read it in the fishing regs. I'm still not planning on *trying* to catch them that way. But at least now I know it's both possible and legal.
I had a bullfrog charge across some floating mat to grab my soft, plastic stickbait. It was screaming as it charged. I didn’t have to set the hook. It swallowed half the worm and I safely reeled it in.
A couple of our local subdivision ponds have a lot of ornery and large bullfrogs. Those suxkers chase down every lure through the shallows. Felt that buddy
The Shakespeare micro series is a good rod. I broke mine, my fault not the rods, and have caught 5lb spotted bass on them with 4lb test. Great UL rod for the money. It will do the job.
Gotta love the micro series. I have a light 7ft that is my go-to panfish float rig, but I’m actually considering using it for a bass drop shot rig. I’ll know by this weekend.
I really fell in love with fishing when I started watching your channel and learned about the Trout Magnets. I think that was six years ago, now? Time flies
Here in NH they just opened my local dam for the Winter, and the base now has a few pools teaming with fish. Temps surprisingly went up to the 70s the other day, and I managed to catch 13 fish, including my first Rock Bass! Great way to fishing off the season for me.
I really got back into ultralight pan-fishing in the last year. Did a lot of it with noodlely fiberglass rods when I was a kid. Pflueger made good reels then, as they still do now. Good stuff man👍
Definitely. My favorite kind of fishing never know what you're gonna catch. But when you do start catching them They just don't quit.. A friend of mine used to tell me whenever you hook yourself. You're hooking a big land sucker. Great video. John, I want to do this so bad.
That was a great video and grass roots basic. I love fishing with ultralight spinning gear and some of my older and cheaper stuff are near and dear. I have at least one Shakespeare Micro rod and cheaper to moderate priced reel. Once my buddy and brother Ricardo finds a newer fisherman getting started we send it to its forever home and I pick up another one. Kids or adults it doesn't matter because they all have a blast. And I second the motion for you and Chris to do a little head to head ultralight fishing challenge. Loser cooks and cleans them is my added twist. Blessings John
great video and great fishing!! look like you both had a great time fishing you and Chris.!! love your videos and channels!! have a good day and week. take care and god bless.
I have a rig that cost close to $500 between the rod and reel, and that rig you were fishing with today is actually pretty good for the $$$ you spend on it. You can still really enjoy a fishing day with equipment that doesn't break the bank, as long as the reel is decently smooth and has a good drag, you can make good and accurate casts with the rod, and the rod has enough sensitivity that you can enjoy the taps, the bite and hook up, and the bend of the rod and the pull on your line. That looked like you enjoyed yourself pretty well! (Nice to see Chris in one of your videos, even briefly. I recognized his spot from his videos.) I usually thread all my Trout Magnets (any soft plastic, actually) with the lighter side down. I feel that more accurately imitates the color patterns of all out baitfish. Dark on top and lighter colored on the bottom. I'm looking to buy the Bass Pro Micro lite 6' 6" 2 piece while I'm visiting my mother-in-law this Thanksgiving. I want to leave it at her house so I have a decent rod to fish with whenever I get a chance to visit. Better than trying to take a rod with you on a jet! The reesl fit in my carry on camera back pack and I can even bring a couple reels spooled with different size line. A little fanny pack with some Trout Magnets, Zman LarvaZ's, Bobby Garland itty bits, etc., some forceps, line cutters and 2 spools of SOS 4 lb and 6 lb. mono for leader, and I'm good to go!!! Less than a $100 investment to leave at her house and a whole lot less of any hassle on the jet. That jumping bluegill was epic! Blessings!
Back to the creek! I'm glad you shared Chris' fishing hole with him ! LOL ! i always love it when you and Chris collab. BTW, what size Pfluger reel did you have on your micro series rod ? I have one of those rods, lots of fun ! Pap Blevins
Man, I’ve been using all kinds of trout magnets all summer and haven’t caught anything except for smallmouth. I’ve seen sunnies follow magnets but they never go for them, and perch just aren’t interested in the slightest. I’ll have to try it again once the water cools down some.
People that worry about the light tosses you do with the small fish have obviously never seen how they get shot out of a hose from a truck when they stock some ponds, or when they drop them from helicopters to do the same thing. It isn't hurting them at all. DNR stocks them that way. If it was an issue, they certainly wouldn't be doing it that way.
This kind of fishing is badly underrated . Most people go for big fish , but i think that small fish are so fun to catch with the right equipment . This is what i like the most from you content 🏞🎣
Used to love chris' channel til he banned me after i posted a quote in support of a political post he put up. Literally just a quote, in support of his post. Politics have put way too short of a fuse into people unfortunately.
P.s. My Pflueger President reels in the 1000, 2500 & 3000 series, continue to operate like the champs that they are for my needs going on 8 years now (with basic maintenance). You cannot beat them.

Feels like old times when I started watching you were wading small creeks
I have some nice rig$, and I have some old slow glass rods and Mitchell reels I bought 60 years ago. I’ve had a lot of fun. This video was a blast.
Lovin this one! These are what drew me to your channel, John!
Just goes to show you don't need expensive gear to catch lots of fish, Love the Trout magnet, Catches me everything, Even caught a catfish on it!!!
Love fall fishing, so nice to be done with the heat, nice creek fishing!
oh these cool days are so nice
Gotta love the micro series. I have a light 7ft that is my go-to panfish float rig, but I’m actually considering using it for a bass drop shot rig. I’ll know by this weekend.
I enjoyed this one John, Love it when you catch multiple species 🐟🎣🐟🎣

You and Chris should do a 2 hour 1v1 micro derby. 3 or 5 smallest fish. Winner buys dinner
I second that motion for a head to head ultralight fish off.
This would be great

I love watching you catch sunfish, they are my favorite to catch myself.
Great video john what weight jig are you using on the shakespeare micro rod and it so great to see you back doing the basic gear
If I'm betting it was either 1/32 or 1/64 ounce jigs
Love this video

Catch clean eat and camp! I don't like fish taste at all but trout, and walleye taste awesome
We don’t have any perch in the creeks where I like in Tennessee
Noti gang! Great videos!! God bless
Hit three similar spots today, all that usually produce - NADA! Lost my new Creekhopper as well. Grrrr. Weird!?
What kinda kayak you using?

That’s a first. I’ve never seen anyone hook their off hand making a cast.
❤
You can get cheaper, pack of jig heads and some Yum Grubs or BNM Grubs
Acrobatic Bluegills
One thing that people ought to like about your videos there's no forward facing sonar, just pure catching, I bet it was fun catching all those fish!👍🎣

Yeah this kind of fishing is why i love this channel. I'd rather catch a lot of small fish than a few big ones!
@@Astigos Well said !

You need to do some better research about throwing the fish.
